Wireless body area network (WBAN) has witnessed significant attentions in the healthcare domain using biomedical sensor-based monitoring of heterogeneous nature of vital signs of a patient’s body. The design of frequency band, MAC superframe structure, and slots allocation to the heterogeneous nature of the patient’s packets have become the challenging problems in WBAN due to the diverse QoS requirements. In this context, this paper proposes an Energy Efficient Traffic Prioritization for Medium Access Control (EETP-MAC) protocol, which provides sufficient slots with higher bandwidth and guard bands to avoid channels interference causing longer delay. Specifically, the design of EETP-MAC is broadly divided in to four folds. Firstly, patient data traffic prioritization is presented with broad categorization including Non-Constrained Data (NCD), Delay-Constrained Data (DCD), Reliability-Constrained Data (RCD) and Critical Data (CD). Secondly, a modified superframe structure design is proposed for effectively handling the traffic prioritization. Thirdly, threshold based slot allocation technique is developed to reduce contention by effectively quantifying criticality on patient data. Forth, an energy efficient frame design is presented focusing on beacon interval, superframe duration, and packet size and inactive period. Simulations are performed to comparatively evaluate the performance of the proposed EETP-MAC with the state-of-the-art MAC protocols. The comparative evaluation attests the benefit of EETP-MAC in terms of efficient slot allocation resulting in lower delay and energy consumption.

A novel process for the production of superabsorbent materials (hydrogels) from bacterial cellulose (BC) was developed. Prior to crosslinking with a water‐soluble polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA), BC was first carboxymethylated and functionalized with glycidyl methacrylate. The degree of crosslinking influenced the swelling properties of the hydrogels. The use of greater amounts of PEGDA enhanced the formation of a thicker macromolecular network containing fewer capillary spaces in the crosslinked gel. The maximum water retention value of the hydrogels containing 2.5–3.5 mmol of carboxyl groups per gram of gel reached 125 g g?1 in distilled water, and 29 g g?1 in saline (0.9% NaCl solution). The highly porous hydrogel architecture with a pore size of 350–600 µm created a high specific surface area. This enables rapid mass penetration in superabsorbent applications. The superabsorbent hydrogels reached 80% of their maximum water absorption capacity in 30 min. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The research on electrode materials for supercapacitor application continues to evolve as the request of high‐energy storage system has increased globally due to the demand for energy consumption. Over the past decades, various types of carbon‐based materials have been employed as electrode materials for high‐performance supercapacitor application. Among them, graphene is 1 of the most widely used carbon‐based materials due to its excellent properties including high surface area and excellent conductivity. To exploit more of its interesting properties, graphene is tailored to produce graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide to improve the dispersibility in water and easy to be incorporated with other materials to form binary composites or even ternary composites. Nowadays, ternary composites have attracted enormous interest as 2 materials (binary composites) cannot satisfy the requirement of the high‐performance supercapacitor. Thus, many approaches have been employed to fabricate ternary composites by combining 3 different types of electroactive materials for high‐performance supercapacitor application. This review focuses on the supercapacitive performance of graphene‐based ternary composites with different types of active materials, ie, conducting polymers, metal oxide, and other carbon‐based materials.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a carrier sense multiple access based wireless local area network (WLAN) with a successive interference cancellation (SIC) technique. We develop an analytical model to compute the average throughput of a user in a WLAN with the SIC technique in presence of path loss, Rayleigh fading and log-normal shadowing. We then validate the model via simulation. By means of the developed analytical model, we compute the average throughput of a user in WLAN systems without and with the SIC technique and evaluate the throughput gain provided by the SIC technique. We find that the throughput gain provided by the SIC technique is significant. However, the throughput gain varies significantly depending on the parameters of network and wireless channel. We find that the throughput gain provided by the SIC technique increases with increasing the number of users in WLAN, medium access rate of the users and the variance in shadowing and it decreases with increasing the data transmission rate. We also investigate the effect of the decoding capability of the SIC technique on the throughput performance. We find that throughputs obtained with decoding capability of 2 and 3 packets are very close.  相似文献
