This paper proposes a generalized pointwise bias error bounds estimation method for polynomial‐based response surface approximations when bias errors are substantial. A relaxation parameter is introduced to account for inconsistencies between the data and the assumed true model. The method is demonstrated with a polynomial example where the model is a quadratic polynomial while the true function is assumed to be cubic polynomial. The effect of relaxation parameter is studied. It is demonstrated that when bias errors dominate, the bias error bounds characterize the actual error field better than the standard error. The bias error bound estimates also help to identify regions in the design space where the accuracy of the response surface approximations is inadequate. It is demonstrated that this information can be utilized for adaptive sampling in order to improve accuracy in such regions. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This experimental study assessed the use of lyophilized collagen to reinforce cervical esophageal anastomosis in rabbits. Twenty New Zealand White rabbits weighing 2.3-3.2 kg were used. In group I (n = 10) a 1-cm-long segment of the esophagus was excised and the two free edges anastomosed, to mimic the conditions found in newborn esophageal atresia. Group II (n = 10) had a segmental esophageal resection and end-to-end anastomosis as in group I but the anastomotic site was circumferentially covered with lyophilized type I collagen film. The resected segments were processed immediately and served as controls for the postoperative tissue in each animal. The animals were starved for the first 24 h and water was given on the 2nd postoperative day; on the 3rd postoperative day the animals were allowed a normal diet. Two rabbits in group II died on the 7th and 8th postoperative days because of a fistula. All the rabbits were killed on the 10th postoperative day and 4-cm segments of esophagus with the anastomosis at the centre were removed. At this time gross leakage was detected in four animals (one in group I and three in group II). Each anastomosis was evaluated for bursting pressure, collagen content, and histologic appearance. Bursting pressure was higher in group I. Collagen (measured as hydroxyproline) levels in anastomotic and adjoining 1-cm segments were compared with concentrations in control segments resected during operation. In group II animals there was a significant reduction in the lowering of hydroxyproline concentrations around the anastomosis. Microscopic evaluation revealed no significant differences between the two groups. This experiment showed no demonstrable benefit from the use of lyophilized collagen in preventing the esophageal anastomotic leakage that occurs in repaired esophageal atresia.  相似文献

This study aimed to investigate the effect of high hydrostatic pressure assisted extraction (HHPE) (250, 350 and 450 MPa at 40 °C for 5 min with/without acid addition) of pectin from sugar beet pulp and compare its properties with pectin obtained from conventional extraction (CE). Degree of esterification (DE), galacturonic acid (Gal-A) content, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry experiments were performed on the obtained pectin powder. HHPE (12.23 ± 0.13%) doubled extraction yield compared to CE (6.43 ± 0.07%). Also, HHPE and acid addition were found to have a synergetic effect on the extraction. HHPE resulted in degradations in the polymer structure and reduced Gal-A content and DE. Pectin extracted with both methods was classified as low methoxyl pectin (LMP). According to the NMR Relaxometry results, HHPE decreased water holding capacity (WHC). In brief, HHP was shown to increase the pectin extraction yield and no changes in viscosity were observed at the concentrations studied (2 g/L).  相似文献

Three different structural engineering designs were investigated to determine optimum design variables, and then to estimate design parameters and the main objective function of designs directly, speedily, and effectively. Two different optimization operations were carried out: One used the harmony search (HS) algorithm, combining different ranges of both HS parameters and iteration with population numbers. The other used an estimation application that was done via artificial neural networks (ANN) to find out the estimated values of parameters. To explore the estimation success of ANN models, different test cases were proposed for the three structural designs. Outcomes of the study suggest that ANN estimation for structures is an effective, successful, and speedy tool to forecast and determine the real optimum results for any design model.  相似文献

In this study structural and magnetic character of the expanded austenite phase (γN) layer formed on a medical grade CoCrMo alloy by a low-pressure Radio-Frequency plasma nitriding process was investigated. The formation of the expanded austenite phase is facilitated at a substrate temperature near 400 °C for 1, 2, 4, 6 and 20 h under a gas mixture of 60% N2–40% H2. The magnetic state of the γN layers was determined by a surface sensitive technique, magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE), and with a scanning probe microscope in magnetic force mode (MFM). Strong evidence for the ferromagnetic nature of the γN-(Co,Cr,Mo) phase is provided by the observation of stripe domain structures and the hysteresis loops. The ferromagnetic state for the γN phase observed here is mainly linked to large lattice expansions (~ 10%) due to high N contents (~ 30 at.%). As an interstitial impurity, nitrogen dilates the host lattice i.e. the Co–Co (or Fe–Fe) distance is increased, which strongly influences the magnetic interactions. An analogy between the magnetic properties of the expanded phases, γN-(Fe,Cr,Ni) and γN-(Co,Cr,Mo), formed in austenitic stainless steel alloys and the CoCrMo alloy of this study is made, and it is suggested that the ferromagnetic states for the γN-(Co,Cr,Mo) and γN-(Fe,Cr,Ni) phases may be correlated with the volume dependence of the magnetic properties of fcc-Co/Co4N and fcc-Fe/Fe4N, respectively.  相似文献

Children’s experiences of outdoor environments have been studied now for more than 40 years yet no research has specifically focussed on children’s experiences of water play in constructed spaces of city centres. This article discusses the development of an observational mapping tool, called TOWEC, to record the interaction of children with water. It then reports findings and analysis from observations over a year-long period of 3,399 children interacting with water in the award winning public open space of the Peace Gardens in the centre of the City of Sheffield, UK. The findings reveal that children undertake both active and passive activities associated with the constructed water features and that these activities are influenced by gender, age and temperature, but not ethnicity. The water features were not designed for children to play in but the children realise the potential affordance that the water features provide.  相似文献

The use of hybrid electrical engines can provide more efficiency by reducing fuel consumption and emissions. In the research, the experimental studies on the created hybrid electric engine were presented. The hybrid engine combines an electric motor with the internal combustion engine (ICE) which is operated under spark assisted controlled auto-ignition (SICAI) combustion mode with the alternative fuels consisting of different ratios of methane–hydrogen blends. In order to establish the hybrid engine, firstly, efficiency graphs of the electrical motor were obtained experimentally. The battery charge status was also checked. The operating range of the SICAI engine in the hybrid system was identified considering performance and efficiency parameters. Based on these parameters, a hybrid algorithm was established to control the operating of the created hybrid engine system. Thus, the experimental studies were carried out for 100% methane, 90% methane-10% hydrogen, 80% methane-20% hydrogen and, 70% methane-30% hydrogen blends (by volume) at wide opening throttle (WOT) and, 50% WOT positions. Consequently, the results were discussed in terms of efficiency and emissions.  相似文献

This study assessed sepsis-induced changes in the contents of calpain and cathepsin B in rat soleus muscle. Sepsis was induced in rats by intra-abdominally implanting fecal pellets containing Escherichia coil and Bacteroides fragilis. Intact soleus muscles were isolated from non-operated control rats, and from rats sacrificed 1 and 2 days after they were implanted with bacteria-free (sterile implanted) or bacteria-laden (septic implanted) pellets. Western blot analyses of muscle homogenates were performed to identify and quantitate these proteinases using specific antibodies. No significant differences in cathepsin B contents were observed between the septic and nonseptic animals on days 1 and 2, post-implantation. Among the three distinct bands recognized by anti-calpain, two prominent bands of 80 and 76 kDa, representing calpain subunits, did not seem to be altered in septic rats compared to the nonseptic groups. The content of the 45-kDa subunit decreased in both the septic and sterile groups compared with non-operated control. These results along with our previous observations suggest that although Gram-negative sepsis does not appear to have an effect on Ca2(+)-insensitive lysosomal cathepsin B content or activity, it upregulates the activity of the Ca2(+)-dependent calpain but not its content in the skeletal muscle during sepsis.  相似文献

The engineers can frequently encounter with the situation to select the optimum option among the alternatives related with mining operations. The optimum choice can be selected by the experienced engineers taking into consideration their judgement and intuition. However, decision-making methods can offer to the engineers to support their optimum selection for a particular application in the scientific way. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is one of the multi attribute decision-making (MADM) methods utilizing structured pair-wise comparisons. This paper presents an application of the AHP method to the selection of the optimum support design for the main transport road, which has been planned for deep coal seam panels of Western Lignite Corporation (WLC) Tuncbilek in Turkiye. The methodology considers eight main objectives, namely: four different displacement values for determined history locations, factor of safety (FOS), cost, labour and applicability factor for the selection of support design. The displacements and stress values were obtained by using the finite difference program FLAC3D as the numerical studies have been widely used by the engineers examining the response of any opening in underground, in advance. After carrying out several numerical models for different support design, the AHP method was incorporated to evaluate these support designs according to the pre-determined criteria. The result of this study shows that such AHP application can assist the engineers to effectively evaluate the support system alternatives for an underground mine.  相似文献

In this study, layered clay/polymer nanocomposites were developed based on epoxy resins and montmorillonite as the nanoplatelet reinforcement. Clay particles were treated with hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride (HTCA) through an ion exchange reaction. In this way, Na+ interlayer cations of the clay is exchanged with onium cation of the surfactant that turns the hydrophilic clays (MMT) to organophilic (OMMT) characteristics. Thermal analysis results revealed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) and the dynamic mechanical properties including the storage and loss modulus of the neat epoxy resin increases by the incorporation of clay particles.
