A cryptic multidrug resistance (MDR) system in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, the expression of which is selectable by tetracycline, is described. Tetracycline resistance was the consequence of active efflux of the antibiotic, and it was associated with resistance to quinolones and chloramphenicol, but not to aminoglycosides or beta-lactam antibiotics. MDR is linked to the expression of an outer membrane protein (OMP54) both in a model system and in multidrug-resistant clinical isolates.  相似文献

The influence of austenitizing treatment and tempering on the fracture behavior of high-speed steel (DIN 1.3333) has been investigated. The fracture behavior has been characterized by determining the K IC and J IC values via the performance of modified compact tension (CT) and single edge notched (SEN) tests. The micromechanisms of crack initiation and propagation have been studied by metallographic examination of the fractured specimens. The results indicate that austenitizing conditions of temperature range 1050 °C to 1190 °C and time 0.25 to 6 minutes and tempering at 550 °C to 650 °C up to 150 minutes alter the microstructure and, subsequently, the fracture toughness. It was found that cracking occurs by nucleation at the interface of matrix/vanadium-enriched large carbides, where sulfur is segregated and where linkage of the microcracks bridges ductile ligament of voids at small Mo + W enriched carbides. The improvements of the fracture toughness and hardness by short austenitizing time of 15 to 75 seconds at 1190 °C are attributed to (1) the optimum distribution of a dense network of small carbides, (2) the lack of grain growth as the boundaries are pinned down by these small carbides, and (3) the retained austenite at a level up to 16 vol pct transformed to martensite.  相似文献

We present data on patterns of alcohol consumption in the Russian elderly aged > or = 60 y (< or = 100 y) between 1992 and 1996. These results come from nationally representative data collected as part of the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey (RLMS), based on three-stage stratified cluster probability samples of the Russian population. The data showed a decreasing prevalence of drinking during this period, but an increase in the amount of alcohol consumed by some members of this population. There were significant differences within the group, with 60-69-y-old men having both the highest prevalence and the highest amounts of alcohol consumption compared with older men and women. Although the decrease in drinking prevalence is reassuring, the increase in the absolute amount of alcohol consumption by drinkers is of concern.  相似文献

Changes in the activity of acid phosphatase (AP) and its isoenzymes (tartrate-insensitive AP and formalin-insensitive AP) were investigated in patients with food poisoning in the course of the disease. The activity of AP and its isoenzymes in the serum started to grow in early convalescence and reached maximum in late convalescence. Total activity of AP in food toxic infections consists primarily of the activity of its platelet fraction. AP activity may serve as an additional criterion to predict vascular platelet involvement of hemostasis.  相似文献

A case of a large dentigerous cyst containing a canine tooth in the maxillary antrum is presented. This case is of interest due because of its extensiveness and the presence of a canine tooth in the roof of the maxillary sinus. In addition, this caused a right-sided epiphora. This paper proposes a time-division multiple-access/time-division duplex (TDMA/TDD)-based symbol rate and modulation level-controlled adaptive modulation system for high-bit-rate data transmission. The proposed system controls both the symbol rate and modulation level for the next transmission time slot according to the estimated carrier power to noise spectral density ratio (C/N0) and delay spread for the time slot to achieve higher bit rate and higher transmission quality as well as higher delay-spread immunity. It is demonstrated by computer simulation and laboratory experiments that the proposed system can achieve a higher average bit rate with higher transmission quality in comparison with the fixed-rate quaternary phase-shift keying (QPSK) system and modulation level-controlled adaptive modulation system in both flat Rayleigh and frequency-selective fading environments. The simulated and experimental results also show that the proposed adaptive modulation techniques can be applied to 1-2-Mb/s indoor and outdoor microcellular systems with its delay spread of up to 250 ns and its terminal mobility of up to pedestrian speed without employing any special antifrequency-selective fading techniques, such as the adaptive equalizer and space diversity  相似文献

We study the transient gratings photogenerated in the picosecond regime in three families of structures, namely : - structures of thickness in the order of one micron, including quantum wells (GaAs/GaAlAs, CdTe/ CdZnTe). A transmission modulation due to the electric field has been observed. We show that, in accordance with our calculations, this modulation is screened faster than 10 ps at a fluence of a few µJ/cm2. - A structure including GalnAs/GalnAsP MQWS in a cavity. This structure shows a top diffraction efficiency of 2.5 × 10-2 at 1.55 µm for an energy of excitation in the order of 100 µJ/cm2. The diffraction efficiency exhibits several oscillations due to Fabry-Pårot effects. By introducing cavity effects in our model, we show that the diffraction efficiency is amplified by more than a factor 2 with respect to the no-cavity case. Calculations show that the diffraction efficiency may reach 6 × 10-2 around 1.625 µm, for a front mirror reflectivity of 90 %. - Structures including bulk GaAs microcavities. The risetime is lower or in the order of 1 ps while the diffraction efficiency attains 1 %, with an average power of 4 mW (i.e. an energy of 2 µJ/cm2/pulse), compatible with a commutation of packets at 80 MHz.  相似文献
