A membrane bioreactor (MBR) system treating wastewater containing high molecular weight compounds was operated at solids retention times (SRTs) ranging from 30 to 2 days. Chemical oxygen demand removal efficiencies exceeded 99% and effective nitrification was obtained at SRTs between 30 and 5 days. A significant shift in the biological population structure was observed at the 2 days SRT as the content of gram-negative microorganisms increased and nitrifying bacteria were washed out. At this low SRT, limitations in the biological reaction kinetics resulted in incomplete degradation of the feed protein increasing the presence of soluble organic matter in the effluent. Furthermore, the diluted mixed liquor prevented the formation of a filtration cake on the membrane surface, further deteriorating effluent quality. Biological kinetic data parameters were analyzed using three different representations for biomass: volatile suspended solids, lipid phosphates, and total enzymatic activity. All three indicators exhibited similar trends resulting in very comparable estimates for endogenous decay coefficients, thus demonstrating the reliability of volatile suspended solids as a measure for biological activity in activated sludge. Lower than typical endogenous decay rates in the MBR suggested favorable environmental conditions for respiration and a lower potential for self oxidation and predation. The true yield coefficient was in the range of conventional activated sludge systems, refuting previous suggestions of lower yields in MBRs.  相似文献

In this study the usage of eye fluid refractive index as a freshness indicator for sardine (Sardina pilchardus) was investigated. Eye fluid refractive index measurements and quality control analyses of sardine during storage at 0°C and +4°C were performed at 24h intervals. According to the sensory analysis results, the sardines stored at 0°C and +4°C had a shelf life of 6 and 4days, respectively. The changes in eye fluid refractive index values during storage at 0°C were not significant while the changes at +4°C were significant (p<0.01). TVB-N and TMA-N values significantly (p<0.01) increased. No microbiological growth was observed at 0°C, however the increase in microorganism counts was significant at +4°C. As a result, eye fluid refractive index measurements can be used as a quality criterion for sardine freshness, when stored at +4°C.  相似文献

Although WCO plays a crucial role for the economical production of biodiesel, free fatty acid (FFA) level in the nature of WCO cause saponification problems during transesterification. Acidic ion-exchange resins can be used to decrease WCO free fatty acid level. In this study, activities of resins (Amberlyst-15 (A-15), Amberlyst-35 (A-35), Amberlyst-16 (A-16) and Dowex HCR-W2) in direct FFA esterification were examined in the temperature range of 50–60 °C and the effect of catalyst amount (1–2 wt%) on FFA conversion was also analyzed. FFA conversion increased with increasing reaction temperature and catalyst amount. Order of catalytic activities was found as A-15 > A-35 > A-16 > Dowex HCR-W2. This was related to the size of average pore diameters and magnitude of BET surface area.  相似文献

An experimental salt gradient solar pond having a surface area of 3.5 × 3.5 m2 and depth of 2 m has been built. Two covers, which are collapsible, have been used for reducing the thermal energy loses from the surface of the solar pond during the night and increasing the thermal efficiency of the pond solar energy harvesting during daytime. These covers having reflective properties can be rotated between 0° and 180° by an electric motor and they can be fixed at any angle automatically. A mathematical formulation which calculates the amount of the solar energy harvested by the covers has been developed and it is adapted into a mathematical model capable of giving the temporal temperature variation at any point inside or outside the pond at any time. From these calculations, hourly air and daily soil temperature values calculated from analytical functions are used. These analytic functions are derived by using the average hourly and daily temperature values for air and soil data obtained from the local meteorological station in Isparta region. The computational modeling has been carried out for the determination of the performance of insulated and uninsulated solar ponds having different sizes with or without covers and reflectors. Reflectors increase the performance of the solar ponds by about 25%. Finally, this model has been employed for the prediction of temperature variations of an experimental salt gradient solar pond. Numerical results are in good agreement with the experiments.  相似文献

Biohydrogen production from cellulosic waste materials using dark fermentation is a promising technology for producing renewable energy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate residual cellulosic materials generated from local sources for their H2 production potential without any pretreatment. Clostridium thermocellum ATCC 27405, a cellulolytic, thermophilic bacterium that has been shown to be capable of H2 production on both cellobiose and α-cellulose substrates, was used in simultaneous batch fermentation experiments with dried distillers grain (DDGs), barley hulls (BH) and fusarium head blight contaminated barley hulls (CBH) as the carbon source. Overall, the dried distillers grain produced the highest concentration of hydrogen gas at 1.27 mmol H2/glucose equivalent utilized. CBH and BH produced 1.18 and 1.24 mmol H2/glucose equivalent utilized, respectively. Overall, this study indicates that hydrogen derived from a variety of cellulosic waste biomass sources is a possible candidate for the development of sustainable energy.  相似文献

The proximate composition and mineral contents of blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) and swim crab (Portunus pelagicus), caught off the Gulf of Antalya, were investigated. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the nutritive value. Claw and body meat of these two species were analyzed. For both species there were no significant differences in the moisture, fat and ash contents of claw and body meats but protein contents of swim crab were significantly higher (P<0.05) than those found in blue crab. Na, K, Ca, Zn and Cu values for blue crab and swim crab were not significantly different. There were no significant differences between Na, K, Mg, Zn, Fe, Mn and Cu contents of claw and body meats of the two species.  相似文献

Hydropower is the most important kind of renewable, sustainable energy and a proven technology for electricity generation. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) have recently attracted significant attention in medical applications. Electrospinning of short chain-length (scl-)PHAs has been extensively investigated, while medium chain length (mcl-)PHAs are not suitable for electrospinning since they are elastomeric at room temperature. We improved the electrospinability of an mcl-PHA poly (3-hydroxyoctanoate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHOHHx) by blending with a scl-PHA poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV25, with 25?mol% HV). Morphology of electrospun PHBV25/PHOHHx blends at various ratios was investigated. Effects of various processing parameters on nanofiber morphology were investigated, such as solution concentration, feeding rate and applied voltage. Crystallinity, chemical structure, and mechanical properties of the electrospun mats were also studied.  相似文献
