Kinetic data acquisition and screening of transition metal complexes for homogeneous liquid phase catalysis calls for numerous testing in multiphase G/L, L/L and G/L/L systems. It is shown first, with an example in asymmetric hydrogenation, why detailed kinetics must be performed. Then, new reactors leading to fast experimental techniques are proposed. A liquid–liquid centrifugal partition chromatography is evaluated for determining rate constants and partition isotherms by combining frontal analysis and elution chromatography, the catalyst being maintained in a stationary aqueous phase. Two microreactors offering short residence time have also been tested and compared with a fast test reaction (tR ca. 5–20 s). The combination of reacting pulses, carrier liquids and micromixer is proposed as a general high throughput tool for the investigation of G/L, L/L and G/L/L catalytic systems in a fast sequential way. 相似文献

The densification of CaLa2S4 (CLS) powders prepared by combustion method was investigated by the use of Field-Assisted Sintering Technique (FAST) and Hot Pressing (HP). CLS powders were sintered using FAST at 1000°C at different pressures and heating rates and sintered by HP under 120 MPa from 800°C to 1100°C for 6 hours with a heating rate of 10°C/min. Comparison of both techniques was further realized by use of the same conditions of pressure, dwell time, and heating rate. Complementary techniques (XRD, SEM-EDS, density measurements, FTIR spectroscopy) were employed to correlate the sintering processes/parameters to the microstructural/compositional developments and optical transmission of the ceramics. Both sintering techniques produce ceramics with submicrometer grain size and relative density of about 99%. Nevertheless, HP is more suitable to densify CLS ceramics without fragmentation and also reach higher transmission than FAST. Transmission of 40%–45% was measured out of a possible maximum of 69% based on the Fresnel losses in the 8-14 μm window when HP is applied at 1000°C for 6 hours under 120 MPa. In previous work, an atmospheric pressure plasma jet was applied to successfully improve the electrospinnability of poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) which enabled the fabrication of beadless nanofibers. In this paper, we report the aging effect of the plasma treatment to evaluate the robustness of the developed process. For this purpose, plasma-treated PCL polymer solutions with different exposure time were stored for 1 and 8 days and the aged solutions were analyzed in terms of conductivity, viscosity, surface tension, pH, and polymer molecular weight. During storage, the surface tension and acidity of the plasma-treated solutions were maintained constant. However, the viscosity was found to be significantly lower after 8 days which was attributed to PCL degradation. Electrospinning of all stored PCL solutions resulted in the generation of beadless PCL nanofibers. The plasma treatment effects were thus found to be highly stable over time and capable of producing high-quality PCL nanofibers up to 8 days. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The present study aimed to evaluate the potential use of whey to produce 2,3-BD via the fermentation of lactose and its monosaccharides, glucose and galactose, in a synthetic culture medium (medium 9, M9) using a modified strain of Escherichia coli K12 MG1655 (E. coli JFR12) at a 0.1 L/L (10 vol%) inoculum ratio, 37 °C, atmospheric pressure, an initial pH 7.4, and 100 rpm for 72 h varying the saccharide concentration from 12.5, 25, and 50 g/L. The 2,3-BD yield was ∼80 % of the theoretical yield using 25 g/L of glucose and lactose, corresponding to 0.38 g/g saccharides at a fermentation time of 48 h (glucose) and 72 h (lactose). However, the 2,3-BD yield was halved (0.19 g/g galactose), fermenting 25 g/L of galactose at 48 h. Taking into account these results, two important conclusions were determined: i) E. coli JFR12 could transform galactose into 2,3-BD although its yield was half of the yield observed with glucose at 48 h; and ii) E. coli JFR12 was as efficient as other natural 2,3-BD producers such as Klebsiella species fermenting lactose. However, the E. coli strain has the advantage of being an innocuous strain. To the best of our knowledge, there is no other study presenting the production of 2,3-BD from galactose and lactose with a genetically modified E. coli strain. 相似文献

The bone marrow (BM) microenvironment plays a crucial role in the development and progression of leukemia (AML). Intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved in the regulation of the biology of leukemia-initiating cells, where the antioxidant enzyme GPx-3 could be involved as a determinant of cellular self-renewal. Little is known however about the role of the microenvironment in the control of the oxidative metabolism of AML cells. In the present study, a coculture model of BM mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) and AML cells (KG1a cell-line and primary BM blasts) was used to explore this metabolic pathway. MSC-contact, rather than culture with MSC-conditioned medium, decreases ROS levels and inhibits the Nrf-2 pathway through overexpression of GPx3 in AML cells. The decrease of ROS levels also inactivates p38MAPK and reduces the proliferation of AML cells. Conversely, contact with AML cells modifies MSCs in that they display an increased oxidative stress and Nrf-2 activation, together with a concomitant lowered expression of GPx-3. Altogether, these experiments suggest that a reciprocal control of oxidative metabolism is initiated by direct cell–cell contact between MSCs and AML cells. GPx-3 expression appears to play a crucial role in this cross-talk and could be involved in the regulation of leukemogenesis. 相似文献

The association between obesity, cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been demonstrated in animal and epidemiological studies. However, the specific role of visceral obesity on cancer and CVD remains unclear. Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is a complex and metabolically active tissue, that can produce different adipokines and hormones, responsible for endocrine-metabolic comorbidities. This review explores the potential mechanisms related to VAT that may also be involved in cancer and CVD. In addition, we discuss the shared pharmacological treatments which may reduce the risk of both diseases. This review highlights that chronic inflammation, molecular aspects, metabolic syndrome, secretion of hormones and adiponectin associated to VAT may have synergistic effects and should be further studied in relation to cancer and CVD. Reductions in abdominal and visceral adiposity improve insulin sensitivity, lipid profile and cytokines, which consequently reduce the risk of CVD and some cancers. Several medications have shown to reduce visceral and/or subcutaneous fat. Further research is needed to investigate the pathophysiological mechanisms by which visceral obesity may cause both cancer and CVD. The role of visceral fat in cancer and CVD is an important area to advance. Public health policies to increase public awareness about VAT’s role and ways to manage or prevent it are needed. 相似文献

A study was carried out to develop a kinetic model of the photocatalytic inactivation of Escherichia coli using different TiO2 catalysts. The model developed is based on a reaction scheme that involves effectively coupling mass‐transfer fluxes between bacteria and catalyst surface on one hand and bacterial degradation reaction on the other. The photocatalytic results were derived from experiments led in a batch reactor under both dark and Ultra Violet (UV) irradiation conditions. Using a reference catalyst, the robustness of the developed model was tested under solar conditions. The experimental data validated the model as successfully able to reproduce evolutions in the viable bacteria concentration in the range of parameters studied without any further adjustment of the kinetic parameters. To evaluate the environmental impact of uranium (U) contamination, it is important to investigate the effects of U at ecologically relevant conditions. Since U speciation, and hence its toxicity, strongly depends on environmental pH, the present study aimed to investigate dose-dependent effects of U at pH 7.5. Arabidopsis thaliana plants (Mouse-ear Cress) were exposed for three days to different U concentrations at pH 7.5. In the roots, the increased capacities of ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase indicate an important role for the ascorbate-glutathione cycle during U-induced stress. However, a significant decrease in the ascorbate redox state was observed after exposure to 75 and 100 µM U, indicating that those roots are severely stressed. In accordance with the roots, the ascorbate-glutathione cycle plays an important role in the antioxidative defence systems in A. thaliana leaves exposed to U at pH 7.5 as the ascorbate and glutathione biosynthesis were upregulated. In addition, small inductions of enzymes of the antioxidative defence system were observed at lower U concentrations to counteract the U-induced stress. However, at higher U concentrations it seems that the antioxidative defence system of the leaves collapses as reductions in enzyme activities and gene expression levels were observed. 相似文献

A computational study based on the Euler–Lagrange approach was developed for the characterization of flammable dusts in the 20 L sphere standard test. The aim of the study was to analyze some parameters that might affect the experimental data (e.g., cold turbulence and particle size). The turbulence of a wheat starch cloud was described with the Detached Eddy Simulation model. Both the pressure of the system and the RMS velocity were compared with the flow patterns established with a particle image velocimetry analysis. It was concluded that the rebound nozzle forms a cloud that is composed by clumps. This fact implies dissimilarities between the local concentrations and the nominal value. Finally, a granulometric analysis established that the mean diameter of the particle size distribution (PSD) decreased by 69% during the dispersion. In order to remove xylene vapors from an air stream, an upflow laboratory scale biofilter was operated for a period of 2 months. The experimental study consisted of two different phases: in the first phase, the biofilter was operated at various gas flow rates and the xylene inlet concentration was maintained at 1.39 g m−3. In the second phase, various inlet concentrations of the contaminant were tested at a constant gas flow rate of 0.4 m3 h−1 corresponding to an empty bed residence time of 150 s. The biofilter response to steep and abrupt variations in the xylene inlet concentration and gas flow rate was examined. The results obtained revealed that the removal efficiency of the biofilter regained its high values (above 96%) in less than 24 h following the change to low concentrations and gas flow rate. Temperature measurements showed that the biofilter temperature strongly depends on the intensity of the microbial activity in the filter bed. The experimental mass ratio of carbon dioxide produced to the xylene removed was equal to 2.72 indicating that the contaminant was eliminated exclusively by aerobic biodegradation. These findings suggest that a follow up of the amount of carbon dioxide produced in the filter bed can be very helpful in monitoring the performance of the biofilter. For relatively small inlet loads of xylene, the contributions of the different sections of the biofilter to the removal efficiency of the contaminant and the carbon dioxide production were unevenly balanced but became more uniformly distributed for relatively high inlet loads. 相似文献
