Abstract

Thermal mixing behavior of shear-thinning fluids with the specified heat flux boundary condition at mixing zone walls is studied numerically to investigate the effect of Reynolds number (10 to 50), power-law index (0.6161 to 1), Nusselt number (104 to 106) for external air flows and dimensionless ambient temperature (?2.7 to 1.3). The temperature is a passive tracer that quantifies the degree of mixing in this study. Detailed kinematics shows the formation of recirculation zones at the mixing channel walls. Length required to achieve the well mixed condition (i.e., a flat temperature profile across the channel height) is shorter at low Reynolds number, convective heat transfer coefficient and ambient temperature, and high power-law index values. In the impingement zone, a faster reduction in mixing index has been observed with respect to mixing length at high power-law index and low Reynolds numbers, while Nusselt number and ambient temperature exert only a weak influence. Under appropriate conditions, significant energy exchange between the system and surroundings can occur and has been analyzed in detail in this work. This work finds its applications in the improved mixing as practiced in the processing and production of food-stuffs, fine chemicals, personal care products, etc.  相似文献

Biodiesel obtained from inedible sources emerged as a productive approach in Indian energy scenario due to the scarcity of food resources come up with extensive usage of edible crops. Kusum (Schleichera oleosa) oil is abundantly available in India and can be used as feedstock to produce biodiesel. However, issues such as higher viscosity, poor stability, and lower calorific value result in poor ignition characteristics, hence limiting its use in combustion applications. An improvement in performance and emission characteristics can be achieved by doping nanoparticles in Kusum biodiesel (KBD). The present work examines the impact of a metal compound and carbon‐primarily based nanoparticles on the evaporation time and ignition probability of the KBD. During the experimental process, different fuel samples of KBD were prepared by amalgamating nanoparticles; then, a sequence of hot plate (stainless steel) ignition test was conducted on these test fuels. The comparative assessment of neat biodiesel and the biodiesel fuel doped with 30 ppm each of alumina (Al2O3), and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) nanoparticles were carried out. The Kusum oil was converted to biodiesel using two‐stage transesterification process. In the initial stage, refined oil was gone through the acid catalyst esterification process followed by the transesterification reaction. The prepared methyl ester was confirmed and characterized using GC‐MS technique. The thermophysical and spray properties of the test fuels including density, viscosity, calorific value, cloud/pour point, Sauter mean diameter (SMD), and specific surface area (SSA) were also calculated. The experimental result showed a significant increase in ignition probability and heat conduction properties due to improved surface area/volume ratio. Also, lower evaporation time was noted for metal/carbon‐based nanoparticles doped biodiesel as compared with neat biodiesel.  相似文献

This study primarily focuses on comparative experimental analysis on standalone conventional solar still (CSS), inclined solar still (ISS), and integrated conventional and inclined solar still (CSS‐ISS) for different parameters that affect the freshwater yield. For enhancing the freshwater yield only a few studies are available on still‐still integration. The present novel study provides a greater improvement in improving the freshwater yield by integrating ISS with CSS. This experimental work mainly concentrates on the importance of water depth (d w) and mass flow rate of water ( m w) in the solar still. Water depth inside the conventional still varied from 0.02 to 0.06 m whereas, water is constantly flown with a mass flow rate of 8.33 kg/hour in an ISS with baffles. The experimental result shows that the accumulated freshwater yield from CSS‐ISS, ISS, and CSS were 6.2, 5.04, and 4.24 kg, respectively. CSS‐ISS and ISS produced 46.23% and 18.87% higher productivity than the CSS. From the experimental investigation, it is also identified that the water temperature is significantly improved by 20% using integration as compared with CSS without integration under the same water depth of d w = 0.02 m. The overall improvement in yield was higher in the case of CSS‐ISS. The deviations between experimental and theoretical values of yield from the conventional and modified solar still were in the range of ±7%.  相似文献
