Micro-proton exchange membrane fuel cells are considered to be the next generation power sources for micro-scale power applications, but onboard hydrogen storage and generation with high energy density at the small scale is still a technical barrier. This paper introduces a hydrogen generation method based on an onboard hydride fuel and a byproduct water recovery mechanism for micro-hydrogen PEM fuel cells. The water recovery is carried out by water diffusion from the more humid cathode side to the less humid anode side through the proton exchange membrane. The micro-fuel cells based on this water recovery method were constructed and tested. The results demonstrate that the relative humidity has a significant affect on the fuel cell performance as well as the opening area on the cover layer, the type of hydrides, and the thickness of the Nafion membrane also can affect the fuel cell performance. A 10 mm3 prototype water recovery micro-fuel cell has been built and tested, and the device has produced a maximum power density of 104 W L−1 and a maximum energy density of 313 W h L−1.  相似文献

In this paper, a multilayered on-chip power distribution network consisting of two million passive elements has been modeled using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. In this method, a branch capacitor has been used. The use of the branch capacitor is important for simulating multilayered power grids. In addition, a method for including the CMOS inverter characteristics into the FDTD simulation has been presented. As an example of the application of this method, an H-tree clock network was simulated to compute the power supply noise distribution across an entire chip. Various scenarios with varying decoupling capacitances, load capacitances, number of clock buffers, and rise times have been analyzed to demonstrate the importance of circuit nonlinearity on power supply noise. Also, a method has been presented for analyzing package and board planes. Based on the methods presented, the interaction between chip and package has been discussed for capturing the resonant behavior that is otherwise absent when each section of the system is analyzed separately.  相似文献

Nanobelts are a new class of semiconducting metal oxide nanowires. The ribbon-like nanobelts are chemically pure and structurally uniform single crystals, with clean, sharp, smooth surfaces, and rectangular cross-sections. Positive and negative dielectrophoresis (DEP) was demonstrated for the first time on semiconducting oxide nanobelts. This effect was then used for the fabrication of a nanodevice, which consisted of SnO2 nanobelts attached to castellated gold electrodes defined on a glass substrate, and covered by a microchannel. The SnO2 nanobelts (width ∼ 100-300 nm, thickness ∼ 30-40 nm) were suspended in ethanol and introduced into the microchannel. An alternating (AC) voltage of ∼9.8 V peak to peak, with variable frequency, was applied between the electrodes (minimum electrode gap ∼ 20 μm), which corresponds to an average electric field strength of less than 2.5 × 105 V/m. In the 10 Hz-1 kHz range, repulsion between the nanobelts and the electrodes occurred, while in the 1-10 MHz range, attraction was observed. Once the nanobelts touched the electrodes, those that were sufficiently long bridged the electrode gaps. The device was characterized and can potentially be used as a nanosensor.  相似文献

This paper presents near-field (NF) and far-field (FF) analysis of alternating impedance electromagnetic bandgap (AI-EBG) structure in packages and boards. Three test vehicles have been designed and fabricated for NF and FF measurements. Simulation results using a full-wave solver (SONNET) have been compared with measurement results. This paper investigates the radiation due to return current on different reference planes. The analysis results from simulations and measurements provide important guidelines for design of the AI-EBG structure based power distribution network for noise isolation and suppression in mixed-signal systems  相似文献

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Food Frequency Questionnaires (FFQs) are commonly used in epidemiologic studies to assess long-term nutritional exposure. Because of wide variations in dietary habits in different countries, a FFQ must be developed to suit the specific population. Sri Lanka is undergoing nutritional transition and diet-related chronic diseases are emerging as an important health problem. Currently, no FFQ has been developed for Sri Lankan adults. In this study, we developed a FFQ to assess the regular dietary intake of Sri Lankan adults. METHODS: A nationally representative sample of 600 adults was selected by a multi-stage random cluster sampling technique and dietary intake was assessed by random 24-h dietary recall. Nutrient analysis of the FFQ required the selection of foods, development of recipes and application of these to cooked foods to develop a nutrient database. We constructed a comprehensive food list with the units of measurement. A stepwise regression method was used to identify foods contributing to a cumulative 90% of variance to total energy and macronutrients. In addition, a series of photographs were included. RESULTS: We obtained dietary data from 482 participants and 312 different food items were recorded. Nutritionists grouped similar food items which resulted in a total of 178 items. After performing step-wise multiple regression, 93 foods explained 90% of the variance for total energy intake, carbohydrates, protein, total fat and dietary fibre. Finally, 90 food items and 12 photographs were selected. CONCLUSION: We developed a FFQ and the related nutrient composition database for Sri Lankan adults. Culturally specific dietary tools are central to capturing the role of diet in risk for chronic disease in Sri Lanka. The next step will involve the verification of FFQ reproducibility and validity.  相似文献

This work studied the electronic characteristics of the grains and grain boundaries of indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films using electrostatic and Kelvin probe force microscopy. Two types of ITO films were compared, deposited using radiofrequency magnetron sputtering in pure argon or 99% argon + 1% oxygen, respectively. The average grain size and surface roughness increased with substrate temperature for the films deposited in pure argon. With the addition of 1% oxygen, the increase in the grain size was inhibited above 150°C, which was suggested to be due to passivation of the grains by the excess oxygen. Electrostatic force microscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) images confirmed that the grain growth was defect mediated and occurred at defective interfaces at high temperatures. Films deposited at room temperature with 1% oxygen showed crystalline nature, while films deposited with pure argon at room temperature were amorphous as observed from KPFM images. The potential drop across the grain and grain boundary was determined by taking surface potential line profiles to evaluate the electronic properties.  相似文献

Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles covalently linked to a gold electrode have been used for immobilizing catalase (CAT) enzyme to sense the presence of various concentrations of H(2)O(2). These nanoparticles ranging from 20 to 30 nm were synthesized by thermal co-precipitation of ferric and ferrous chlorides. SEM and XRD have been used for morphological and structural characterization of Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles. CAT enzyme was linked covalently to the surface of iron oxide using carbodiimide in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) at 4?°C. The enzyme-iron oxide link was confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. Sensing studies carried out using cyclic voltammetry showed a linear response of the CAT/nano Fe(3)O(4)/Au bioelectrode towards H(2)O(2) between 1.5 and 13.5 μM with a very sharp response time of 2 s.  相似文献
