Summary Microwave dielectric loss spectroscopy (MDS) has shown remarkable potential as a tool for the observation of changes in elastomer network structure within the interphase region of natural rubber/ carbon black composites. During crosslinking (non elemental sulphur system) the dielectric loss progressively increased. However, during ageing at high temperature the dielectric loss decreased. Parallel studies on the unfilled matrix yielded no such variation in dielectric loss. It was therefore concluded that the changes in microwave responses were related to the development of the interphase during curing and its subsequent destruction during ageing. The microwave response was related to the composite mechanical properties as a function of ageing time. The effect of stabiliser was also investigated. A 1 wt% lysozyme solution was used as a model fluid to test a previously formulated mathematical model for the initial chemical reaction fouling rate of a heat transfer surface. The experimental results showed that, at a given wall temperature, a maximum initial fouling rate existed over a range of fluid velocities. The maximum rate and the fluid velocity at which it occurred both increased as the wall temperature increased. These observations were consistent with the model. Quantitatively, the average absolute percent deviation between the experimental results and the optimum model predictions was 23,3%. The decrease in initial fouling rate with increasing velocity at high fluid velocities was even greater than predicted by the model.  相似文献

The enantioselective synthesis of an analogue of scyphostatin, a potent inhibitor of the neutral sphingomyelinase, is described. The synthesis starts with cyclohexanone and a protected D-serine derivative. The key step is an asymmetric hydroxylation to access a hydroxycyclohexanone, which is transformed into a substituted hydroxycyclohexenone. This is converted into the scyphostatin analogue 14, a chemically and metabolically stabilised compound lacking the epoxy function of the natural congener and carrying a palmitic acid group instead of the native trienoyl residue. An evaluation of the biological activity of 14 revealed neutral sphingomyelinase inhibition in several in vivo test systems (monocytes, macrophages, hepatocytes) monitoring antiapoptotic effects and the inversion of phorbolester-induced translocation of green fluorescent protein labelled kinase (protein kinase C-alpha).  相似文献

Fatty acid analysis is an important research tool, and indices derived from essential fatty acid contents serve as useful biomarkers related to cardiovascular and other chronic disease risk. Both clinical and basic studies of essential fatty acid composition are becoming ever larger in magnitude leading to delays while the rather laborious lipid analyses are performed. A robotic transesterification procedure has been developed for high-throughput analysis of plasma fatty acid methyl esters. In this approach, robots perform most steps including plasma and reagent transfer, transesterification reaction via heating at 80 °C in open tubes with multiple reagent additions, followed by two-phase extraction and transfer of lipid extracts to GC vials. The vials are then placed directly onto a GC autosampler carousel for robotic sample injection. An improved fast GC method is presented in which the peaks of interest are eluted within 6 min. This method is readily scalable to prepare and analyze 200 samples per day (1,000 samples per week) so that large clinical trials can be accommodated. The atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) is often carried out under homogeneous conditions, so the residual metal catalyst in the polymer often influences the quality of the polymer and causes environmental pollution in the long run. Novel CuBr/4,4′‐bis(RfCH2OCH2)‐2,2′‐bpy complexes (Rf = n‐C9F19, n‐C10F21, or n‐C11F23; 2,2′‐bpy = 2,2′‐bipyridine) are insoluble in toluene at room temperature yet readily dissolve in toluene at elevated temperatures to form homogeneous phases for use as catalysts in the ATRP reaction, and the Cu complexes precipitate again upon cooling. The CuBr/4,4′‐bis(n‐C9F19CH2OCH2)‐2,2′‐bpy system produced the best results (e.g., polydispersity index by gel permeation chromatography = 1.26–1.41), in that the residual Cu content in the polymer was as low as 19.3 ppm when the ATRP of MMA was carried out in the thermomorphic mode. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This communication examines experimental information from the literature on the volume contraction that can occur when two monocomponent particle species that have a diameter ratio and a buoyancy‐corrected density ratio on opposite sides of unity are subjected to liquid fluidization as a binary mixture. Attempts are made to predict this volume contraction by applying monocomponent bed expansion equations using averaged properties of the binary solids. It was found that this method works better if the equations are anchored to experimental monocomponent voidages by the fractional bed volume change that they predict than if the equations are used directly. However, greater prediction accuracy can be achieved by correlation of the adjustable parameter G of the Westman, Am Ceramic Soc, 19 , 127–129, (1936) equation, originally applied to binary packed beds.  相似文献

A series of SiC-AlN compositions of 0, 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, and 100 mol% AlN were hot pressed at 2100°C for a 1 h soak at a pressure of 35 MPa under vacuum. 2H-wurtzite SiC-AlN solid-solution structures were formed for compositions with 25-100 mol% AlN. The associated lattice parameters for these solid solutions followed Vegard's law. The microstructures varied with composition; the number of needlelike grains decreased for compositions up to 25 mol% AlN and the amount of equiaxed grains increased for compositions with 25–100 mol% AlN. Densities for all the specimens were >99% of the theoretical density. Coefficients of thermal expansion varied from 4.80 × 10-6/°C to 6.25 × 10-6/°C in the 20°-1400°C range. Young's moduli varied from 451 GPa to 320 GPa at room temperature (RT) and retained 98%, 96%, and 94% of their RT values at 500°, 1000°, and 1250°C, respectively. These three properties correlated linearly with composition. RT microhardness varied from 21.6 GPa to 11.2 GPa and correlated linearly with composition within the solid-solution range. Flexural strengths increased from 487 MPa to 604 MPa from 0 mol% AlN to 25 mol% AlN and then decreased to 284 MPa for 100 mol% AlN. At 1250°C, flexural strengths decreased from 90% to 65% of the RT values. Fracture toughness increased from 3.6 MPa·m1/2 to 4.2 MPa·m1/2 from 0 mol% AlN to 10 mol% AlN and then decreased to 2.5 MPa·m1/2 for 100 mol% AlN.  相似文献

Nickel-free high-nitrogen-alloyed stainless steels like the P2000 (X13CrMnMoN18-14-3) were developed to enhance the strength and corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steels like 304 and 316 while keeping the typical high ductility. The mechanical and corrosive properties of P2000 were investigated and compared with 304 and 316 to highlight the application opportunities of this new alloy. The microstructure of the solution-annealed condition was characterised by electron backscatter diffraction and the mechanical properties were studied by uniaxial tensile tests, Charpy impact tests and hardness measurements. The passivation behaviour was analysed using the electrochemical potentiodynamic reactivation, whereas the pitting corrosion resistance was compared by pitting potentials and pitting temperatures. However, secondary thermal influences or suboptimal heat treatment can impair the corrosion resistance due to the precipitation of secondary phases and the resulting sensitisation. Thermodynamic calculations and artificial ageing treatment in the range of 500–900°C for up to 100 h were used to determine critical time–temperature parameters for sensitisation. The microstructure of the various aged states was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and compared with the degrading corrosion resistance characterised by the KorroPad method.  相似文献
