The activation of water by non-thermal plasma creates a liquid with active constituents referred to as plasma-activated water (PAW). Due to its active constituents, PAW may play an important role in different fields, such as agriculture, the food industry and healthcare. Plasma liquid technology has received attention in recent years due to its versatility and good potential, mainly focused on different health care purposes. This interest has extended to dentistry, since the use of a plasma–liquid technology could bring clinical advantages, compared to direct application of non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasmas (NTAPPs). The aim of this paper is to discuss the applicability of PAW in different areas of dentistry, according to the published literature about NTAPPs and plasma–liquid technology. The direct and indirect application of NTAPPs are presented in the introduction. Posteriorly, the main reactors for generating PAW and its active constituents with a role in biomedical applications are specified, followed by a section that discusses, in detail, the use of PAW as a tool for different oral diseases.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to evaluate the ability of physical training in the maintenance of muscle strength in rats with HFD (high-fat diet) after OVX (ovariectomy). Eighty Wistar rats are at eight weeks of age and weight 200 g which divided into 8 groups (n = 10) and treated for 12 weeks: GA: OVX + ND (normal diet), GB: OVX + ND + training, GC: sham + ND, GD: sham + ND + training, GE: OVX + HFD, GF: OVX + HFD + training, GG: sham + HFD and GH: sham + HFD + training. HFD consists of standard ration for rats with addition of 30% lipids. In training groups, physical training five training/week was conducted on a treadmill with adaptation period of three weeks up to 18 m/s for one hour, training were performed for 12 weeks. The sedentary animals remained in individual box. To analyze the effects of training and diet, tensile strength tests of the gastrocnemius muscles were conducted: the speed of 0.1 mm/min. Analysis of variance was performed to compare groups. The mean (SD) obtained for the maximum load (N) were: GA 57.77 (6.89), GB 62.74 (5.07), GC 49.45 (6.06), GD 59.42 (5.26) and GE 55.58 (4.72), GF 62.50 (4.56), GG 58.35 (4.54) and GH 56.67 (5.87), respectively. There were no differences for maximum load between surgeries (p = 0.004) and between treatments (p = 0.000). Differences were found also for the relationship surgery diet treatment (p = 0.007). For the variable stiffness (N/mm), there were not statistically significant differences: GA 5.03 (0.72), GB 5.08 (1.09), GC 5.17 (0.53), GD 5.35 (0.80), GE 5.52 (1.20), GF 5.36 (1.07), GG 4.83 (1.03) and GH 5.40 (0.73). Aluminum (Al) is one of the most abundant elements on Earth, and its high extraction rate and industrial use make human exposure very common. As Al may be a human toxicant, it is important to investigate the effects of Al exposure, mainly at low doses and for prolonged periods, by simulating human exposure. This work aimed to study the effects of low-dose exposure to chloride aluminum (AlCl3) on the oxidative biochemistry, proteomic profile, and morphology of the major salivary glands. Wistar male rats were exposed to 8.3 mg/kg/day of AlCl3 via intragastric gavage for 60 days. Then, the parotid and submandibular glands were subjected to biochemical assays, proteomic evaluation, and histological analysis. Al caused oxidative imbalance in both salivary glands. Dysregulation of protein expression, mainly of those related to cytoarchitecture, energy metabolism and glandular function, was detected in both salivary glands. Al also promoted histological alterations, such as acinar atrophy and an increase in parenchymal tissue. Prolonged exposure to Al, even at low doses, was able to modulate molecular alterations associated with morphological impairments in the salivary glands of rats. From this perspective, prolonged Al exposure may be a risk to exposed populations and their oral health.  相似文献

The circadian clock (CC) is a daily system that regulates the oscillations of physiological processes and can respond to the external environment in order to maintain internal homeostasis. For the functioning of the CC, the clock genes (CG) act in different metabolic pathways through the clock-controlled genes (CCG), providing cellular regulation. The CC’s interruption can result in the development of different diseases, such as neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as cancer. Leukemias correspond to a group of malignancies of the blood and bone marrow that occur when alterations in normal cellular regulatory processes cause the uncontrolled proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells. This review aimed to associate a deregulated CC with the manifestation of leukemia, looking for possible pathways involving CG and their possible role as leukemic biomarkers.  相似文献

In an attempt to enrich the world of dentistry through the development of new materials, this study proposes to synthesize and incorporate a monomer containing the N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester reactive group to a dental adhesive. As such, this study developed a simple method to obtain NHS esters by employing acrylic acid (AA) and NHS in the presence of EDC (N-ethyl-N′-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide), from an aprotic medium. The experimental N-acryloxysuccinimide (NSA) monomer was analyzed by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance of hydrogen (1H NMR). This monomer was then incorporated within a prepared dental adhesive, in a 5% proportion. The modified adhesive, containing NSA, was applied to the dental surface of bovine teeth to obtain an adhesive/dentin interface in vitro. The characterization of this interface by Raman spectroscopy presented the formation of new amide bonds. Moreover, through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), it became possible to observe an intense penetration of this modified adhesive on the dental surface. Considering the outcome, it can be concluded that the synthesized NSA monomer provided a favorable condition for the dental adhesives to interact chemically with the dentin collagen fibers.  相似文献

Vegetable oils are very promising alternatives to fossil lubricants due to their abundance, low cost, excellent performance, and environmental friendliness. Due to its multifunctional structure, castor oil is an excellent precursor in the synthesis of new biolubricants. However, it showed poor thermal-oxidative stability and a higher pour point. This study used castor oil fatty acids prepared by transesterification (EHRO), epoxidation (TEPO), and oxirane ring opening with the aromatic amines aniline (ANIL) and p-anisidine (ANIS). The chemical structure of these oils was verified by 1H and 13C NMR analysis, and mass spectrometry. Measurements show that the presence of an aromatic amine increases the viscosity resulting in 172 (ANIL) and 199 (ANIS) cSt at 40°C, but reduces viscosity index to 16 and 1, respectively. In addition, the amine groups can scavenge radicals increasing their thermal and oxidative stability. These products do not oxidize copper, and tribological analysis reveals that ANIS has the lowest torque with wear equivalent to commercial mineral lubricant NH-140.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Low-fat snack products are the driving forces for the drying of tortilla chips before frying. Super-heated steam impingement drying of foods has the advantage of improved energy efficiency and product quality. The temperature profile, drying curves, and the physical properties (shrinkage, crispiness, starch gelatinization and microstructure) of tortilla chips dried at different superheated steam temperatures and heat transfer coefficients were measured. Results indicated that the steam temperature had a greater effect on the drying curve than the heat transfer coefficient within the range of study. The microstructure of the samples after steam drying showed that higher steam temperature resulted in more pores and coarser appearance. The modulus of deformation and the shrinkage of tortilla chips correlated with moisture content. A higher steam temperature caused less shrinkage and a higher modulus of deformation. The pasting properties showed that samples dried under a higher steam temperature and a higher heat transfer coefficient gelatinized less during drying and had a higher ability to absorb water. Comparison of the superheated steam drying and air drying revealed that at elevated temperatures the superheated steam provided higher drying rates. Furthermore, there was a less starch gelatinization associated with air drying compared to superheated steam drying.  相似文献

In this research report, a sintering process of porous ceramic materials based on Al2O3 was employed using a method where a cation precursor solution is embedded in an organic fibrous cotton matrix. For porous green bodies, the precursor solution and cotton were annealed at temperatures in the range of 100–1600 °C using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis to obtain a porous body formation and disposal process containing organic fibers and precursor solution. In a structure consisting of open pores and interconnected nanometric grains, despite the low porosity of around 40% (calculated geometrically), nitrogen physisorption determined a specific surface area of 14 m2/g, which shows much sintering of porous bodies. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analytical methods revealed a predominant amount of α-Al2O3 in the sintered samples. Thermal properties of the sintered Al2O3 fibers were obtained by using the Laser Flash which resulted in the lower thermal conductivity obtained by α-Al2O3 and therefore improved its potential use as an insulating material.  相似文献
