For the purpose of developing a nuclear fuel with enhanced thermophysical properties and better irradiation performance density functional theory calculations are used to explore UN, ZrN and (U, Zr)N. Negative deviation of ground state energy from the ideal solution model as well as energetically favourable maximal distance between substitutional metal atoms in respective nitrides indicate mutual solubility of UN and ZrN at all temperatures. Nitrogen vacancy formation energies in UN (1.81 eV) and ZrN (1.40 eV) are considerably lower than metal vacancy formation energies. A substitutional Zr atom in UN has little effect on nitrogen vacancy formation energies (∼1.79 eV), while U in ZrN decreases the value by ∼0.1 eV (∼1.30 eV) due to elastic stress and charge density redistribution in the material. The relative distance between a substitutional metal atom and a vacancy in UN has little influence over the radially declining displacement pattern induced by the substitutional atom, while in ZrN the relaxation of atoms is governed by the position of the vacancy. The calculated vacancy formation energies indicate a lower surface energy of ZrN in comparison with UN.  相似文献

The present study investigates infarct-reducing effects of blocking ischemia-induced opening of connexin43 hemichannels using peptides Gap19, Gap26 or Gap27. Cardioprotection by ischemic preconditioning (IPC) and Gap peptides was compared, and combined treatment was tested in isolated, perfused male rat hearts using function and infarct size after global ischemia, high-resolution respirometry of isolated mitochondrial and peptide binding kinetics as endpoints. The Gap peptides reduced infarct size significantly when given prior to ischemia plus at reperfusion (Gap19 76.2 ± 2.7, Gap26 72.9 ± 5.8 and Gap27 71.9 ± 5.8% of untreated control infarcts, mean ± SEM). Cardioprotection was lost when Gap26, but not Gap27 or Gap19, was combined with triggering IPC (IPC 73.4 ± 5.5, Gap19-IPC 60.9 ± 5.1, Gap26-IPC 109.6 ± 7.8, Gap27-IPC 56.3 ± 8.0% of untreated control infarct). Binding stability of peptide Gap26 to its specific extracellular loop sequence (EL2) of connexin43 was stronger than Gap27 to its corresponding loop EL1 (dissociation rate constant Kd 0.061 ± 0.004 vs. 0.0043 ± 0.0001 s−1, mean ± SD). Mitochondria from IPC hearts showed slightly but significantly reduced respiratory control ratio (RCR). In vitro addition of Gap peptides did not significantly alter respiration. If transient hemichannel activity is part of the IPC triggering event, inhibition of IPC triggering stimuli might limit the use of cardioprotective Gap peptides.  相似文献

A patient with AIDS developed pulmonary infiltrates typical of infection by P. carinii. However, therapy for this agent was unsuccessful. Further studies including blood cultures revealed the presence of C neoformans. Specific therapy for this agent led to recovery. The growth dynamics of polycrystalline thin films by the atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique has been simulated for randomly oriented and randomly positioned seed objects. Cubic crystals with the shape of cubes, octahedra, and truncated cubes have been used to exemplify the dynamics of polycrystalline growth of films with columnar structures. We have reproduced the non-linear growth in the initial stages of ALD preparation of polycrystalline films according to type-2 substrate-inhibited growth. The dependences of topography roughness, surface object density, and selection of angles on terminating surfaces on the film thickness are demonstrated. The topography and cross sections of the simulated films are also shown for the different crystal shapes considered. Means to control the topography to obtain either smooth or rough films are discussed. A possible reduction of surface roughness by the use of different types of precursors is exemplified for growth of crystal objects combining cube and octahedron shapes.  相似文献

In stratified squamous epithelia, altered expression of keratins (Ks) is one possible marker of malignant potential. In the epithelium of the uterine cervix, presence of human papillomaviruses (HPVs) is increasingly regarded as a marker of risk for cervical cancer. However, a similar role in oral cancer and precancer remains controversial. To address these questions, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded oral carcinomas from Sudanese snuff dippers (n=14) and oral carcinomas from Sudanese (n=14), Swedish (n=19) and Norwegian (n=41) non-snuff dippers were examined by immunohistochemistry for expression of K types 13, 14 and 19 using monoclonal antibodies. HPV infection was searched for in all the carcinomas by in situ hybridization (ISH) using the cocktail HPV OmniProbe and the ViraType probe. Carcinomas from Sudanese (snuff dippers/non-snuff dippers) were also examined for HPV infection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using the general HPV primers GP5+/GP6+. For the oral carcinomas from snuff dippers, moderate to intense expression of K13 (71%; 10/14), K14 (86%; 12/14) and K19 (93%; 13/14) was found. For the oral carcinomas from non-snuff dippers, weak to moderate expression of K13 (64%; 47/74), K14 (43%; 32/74) and K19 (45%; 33/74) was found. HPV DNA was not detected in any of the carcinomas from three countries when examined by ISH. The Sudanese (from snuff dippers/non-snuff dippers) oral carcinomas were also negative for HPV DNA with the PCR. The present study shows that (i) there is a high level of expression of K13, K14 and K19 in oral carcinomas from snuff dippers compared to those from non-snuff dippers, (ii) this high level of expression may arise from dysregulation of keratinocyte proliferation and maturation caused by damaging effects of snuff, (iii) the HPV genome is not found in Sudanese (snuff dippers/non-snuff dippers), Swedish or Norwegian oral carcinomas, and (iv) this may suggest that these viruses do not play a prominent role in the aetiology of oral carcinomas from these countries.  相似文献

We report a 28 year old heterosexual male with AIDS that presented with progressive motor disturbances and malaise. Light and transmission electron microscopy of a stereotaxic brain biopsy demonstrated a progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. This is a demyelinating infectious cerebral disease attributed to JC virus and must be considered in the differential diagnosis of central nervous system disturbances in AIDS patients.  相似文献
