Java RMI, Jini and CORBA provide effective mechanisms for implementing a distributed computing system. Recently many numeral libraries have been developed that take advantage of Java as an object‐oriented and portable language. The widely‐used client‐server method limits the extent to which the benefits of the object‐oriented approach can be exploited because of the difficulties arising when a remote object is the argument or return value of a remote or local method. In this paper this problem is solved by introducing a data object that stores the data structure of the remote object and related access methods. By using this data object, the client can easily instantiate a remote object, and use it as the argument or return value of either a local or remote method. An optimization procedure has been developed for branching storm and sanitary sewer systems with a pre-determined layout for determining the minimum total cost. The model was developed within Microsoft Excel using simulated annealing as the optimization procedure. The total cost of the storm sewer system that was obtained with this optimal design procedure was compared to the total cost of the system as obtained from the conventional straight slope design procedure. Applying the simulated annealing optimizer to the design of the branching storm sewer network resulted in a cost savings of over $77,100 or about 7 % (a reduction from $1,117,700 to $1,040,600). These significant savings were realized by simply going an extra step and implementing an optimization technique during the design phase. Use of Excel should enhance the availability and the usage of such an optimization model for the design of storm and sanitary sewer systems by consulting engineers and various agencies.  相似文献

The Protein Processor Associative Memory (PPAM) is a novel hardware architecture for a distributed, decentralised, robust and scalable, bidirectional, hetero-associative memory, that can adapt online to changes in the training data. The PPAM uses the location of data in memory to identify relationships and is therefore fundamentally different from traditional processing methods that tend to use arithmetic operations to perform computation. This paper presents the hardware architecture and details a sample digital logic implementation with an analysis of the implications of using existing techniques for such hardware architectures. It also presents the results of implementing the PPAM for a robotic application that involves learning the forward and inverse kinematics. The results show that, contrary to most other techniques, the PPAM benefits from higher dimensionality of data, and that quantisation intervals are crucial to the performance of the PPAM.  相似文献

With the availability of low-cost radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, security becomes an increasing concern.However, such tags do not permit complex eryptographic functions due to their computational, communications, and storage limitations.In this paper, we investigate the security issues and requirements of RFID systems, and propose ultra-light weight and light weight protocols for low-cost RFID tags. In this study, a potentiometric uric acid biosensor was fabricated by immobilization of uricase onto zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires. Zinc oxide nanowires with 80-150 nm in diameter and 900 nm to 1.5 μm in lengths were grown on the surface of a gold coated flexible plastic substrate. Uricase was electrostatically immobilized on the surface of well aligned ZnO nanowires resulting in a sensitive, selective, stable and reproducible uric acid biosensor. The potentiometric response of the ZnO sensor vs Ag/AgCl reference electrode was found to be linear over a relatively wide logarithmic concentration range (1-650 μM) suitable for human blood serum. By applying a Nafion® membrane on the sensor the linear range could be extended to 1-1000 μM at the expense of an increased response time from 6.25 s to less than 9 s. On the other hand the membrane increased the sensor durability considerably. The sensor response was unaffected by normal concentrations of common interferents such as ascorbic acid, glucose, and urea.  相似文献

Metal spinning is used to form shell components, but is constrained by two features: it can only produce axisymmetric shapes; it requires a dedicated mandrel for each product. Examination of pressures between product and mandrel revealed that contact is limited to three well defined areas. This suggested that the full mandrel could be replaced by three rollers. Furthermore, if these rollers could be controlled, they could represent any symmetric or asymmetric mandrel. A seven-axis machine has been designed, manufactured, and used to spin trial parts. The machine design is described, and preliminary results give an indicator of process capability.  相似文献
