The aggregation behaviour of two cationic surfactants, viz. cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and N-cetyl pyridinium chloride (CPC), in different concentrations of water-soluble polyacrylamide has been studied in alkaline medium by electrical conductivity and surface tension measurements. A decrease in the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the surfactant with an increase in polymer content in the mixture was observed. The thermodynamic and surface parameters have been determined and discussed. The results indicate that micellisation becomes more favourable at higher polymer content.  相似文献

In the fluidised bed granulation process the effect of nozzle air pressure and binder spray rate on key aggregate quality attributes were studied. The experimental results show that a decrease in nozzle air pressure leads to larger mean granule size. The combination of lowest nozzle air pressure and lowest binder spray rate results in granules with the highest levels of hardness and crispness. The combination of low nozzle air pressure and low binder spray rate results in the least distribution span. Granola hardness was affected by nozzle air pressure. Nozzle air pressure and binder spray rate did not have significant effect on crispness.  相似文献

The direct current (dc) and alternate current (ac) electrical transport property of polyvinyl alcohol–silver (PVA–Ag) composites has been investigated within a temperature range of 77 ≤ T ≤ 300 K and in the frequency range of 20 Hz to 1 MHz in the presence as well as in the absence of a transverse magnetic field up to 1 T. The dc conductivity follows variable range hopping model. The magnetoconductivity of the samples undergoes a change from negative to positive values with the incorporation of Ag in PVA matrix, which can be interpreted by the dominancy of the forward interference effect prevailing over the wave function shrinkage effect. The ac conductivity follows a power law of frequency, whereas the temperature dependence of frequency exponent “s” can be explained by correlated barrier hopping model. The dielectric behavior of the samples has been governed by the grain and interfacial grain boundary resistance and capacitance. Functional DNA hydrogels with various motifs and functional groups require perfect sequence design to avoid cross-bonding interference with themselves or other structural sequences. This work reports an A-motif functional DNA hydrogel that does not require any sequence design. A-motif DNA is a noncanonical parallel DNA duplex structure containing homopolymeric deoxyadenosines (poly-dA) strands that undergo conformation changes from single strands at neutral pH to a parallel duplex DNA helix at acidic pH. Despite this and other advantages over other DNA motifs like no cross-bonding interference with other structural sequences, the A-motif has not been explored much. We successfully synthesized a DNA hydrogel by using an A-motif as a reversible handle to polymerize a DNA three-way junction. The A-motif hydrogel was initially characterized by electrophoretic mobility shift assay, and dynamic light scattering, which showed the formation of higher-order structures. Further, we used imaging techniques like atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscope to validating its hydrogel like highly branched morphology. pH-induced conformation transformation from monomers to gel is quick and reversible, and was analysed for multiple acid-base cycles. The sol-to-gel transitions and gelation properties were further examined in rheological studies. The use of the A-motif hydrogel in the visual detection of pathogenic target nucleic acid sequence was demonstrated for the first time in a capillary assay. Moreover, pH-induced hydrogel formation was observed in situ as a layer over the mammalian cells. The proposed A-motif DNA scaffold has enormous potential in designing stimuli-responsive nanostructures that can be used for many biological applications.  相似文献

A starch urea formaldehyde (starch-UF) matrix has been studied for application to the encapsulation of a solid insecticide. The pertinent parameters relating to the matrix synthesis have been identified and the influences of these parameters on release of the insecticide from the starch UF matrix have been investigated. The key parameter controlling the rate of release is the urea to starch ratio. It is shown that the release process can be described in terms of the generalized equation Mt/M = ktn where k and n vary with system variables.  相似文献

The backbone-reversed or ‘retro’, form of a modelall-ß-sheet protein, Escherichia coli CspA, was producedfrom a synthetic gene in E.coli in fusion with an N-terminalaffinity tag. Following purification under denaturing conditionsand dialysis-based removal of urea, the protein was found tofold into a soluble, poorly structured multimer. Upon concentration,this state readily transformed into amyloid nanofibres. CongoRed-binding amorphous forms were also observed. Since a ß-sheet-formingsequence is expected to retain high ß-sheet-formingpropensity even after backbone reversal and given the fact thatfolding of retro-CspA occurs only to a poorly structured form,we conclude that the increase effected in protein concentrationmay be responsible for the formation of intermolecular ß-sheets,facilitating the bleeding away of the protein’s conformationalequilibrium into aggregates that generate well-formed fibres.Since every molecule in these fibres contains a peptide tagfor binding Ni2+, the fibres may provide a template for depositionof nickel to generate novel materials. Fusion behavior of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) compounds plays an important role in the development of physical properties of processed material. The fusion characteristics in PVC processing are governed by material variables that affect the fusion with some interactions. In this research, the aim was to characterize the effects of formulation ingredients on fusion characteristics of PVC. Four material parameters, including the contents of nanoclay (NC), azodicarbonamide, calcium stearate, and processing aid, are proposed as affecting variables. The fusion time (FT) as well as fusion factor (FF) are considered fusion indicators and are experimentally determined in some different levels of affecting parameters. The multivariable regression analysis (MRA) and the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) modeling are considered as two analytical methods. The regression analysis result for the FT denotes, in part, significant linear and quadratic effects of NC and also its significant interactions with azodicarbonamide and calcium stearate, whereas that of FF indicates only a linear effect of NC. ANN modeling is performed with a three‐layer (input, hidden, and output) neural network. The results of the comparison of the MRA and ANN predictions with experimental values are reported as the correlation coefficient (R2), mean‐square error, and mean absolute percentage error for both FF and FT parameters. The obtained values clearly denote that the ANN results are more precise and especially more general than those of MRA. The direct α‐Csp2 H functionalization and thiomethylation of α‐oxoketene dithioacetals (DTAs) has been accomplished with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in the presence of iodine and a copper(I) salt for the first time. A prerequisite is the in situ iodination of the α‐Csp2 atom of dithioacetals that could offer other reaction channels. The operationally simple one‐pot protocol includes region‐defined consecutive iodination and sulfenylation of the challenging α‐Csp2 H bond of dithioacetals employing cheap and readily available reagents. DMSO here plays a dual role as thiomethyl source and solvent.

The oxide glass system of the composition (10 – x)SrO–xFe2O3–90V2O5, (x = 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 mol %) were prepared by a standard melt quenching technique. The amorphous nature of the prepared glass was confirmed using X-ray diffraction technique. The infrared spectra of these glasses were recorded over a continuous spectral range (850–1500 cm–1). The density of prepared sample was obtained by the Archimedes principle. The physical parameters of the glasses were also determined with respect to the composition. Density increases from 3.10 to 3.20 g/cm3, whereas the molar volume decreases with the increase in Fe2O3 concentration. In order to study optical properties, absorption spectra were measured at room temperature. Indirect optical energy band gap, optical dielectric constant, refractive index were calculated from optical energy band gap. The refractive index decreases gradually with the increase in Fe2O3 content due to increase of bridging oxygen’s. For temperatures from 300 to 500 K, the dc conductivity increased with the increasing Fe2O3 content. The dielectric properties like dielectric constant, dielectric loss factor and dielectric loss tangent investigated at the room temperature in the frequency range of 10 kHz to 1 MHz decreases with frequency. The dielectric behavior shows strong frequency as well as composition dependence.  相似文献
