The effect of swift heavy ion irradiation on hydroxyapatite (HAp) ceramic - a bone mineral was investigated. The irradiation experiment was conducted using oxygen ions at energy of 100 MeV with three different fluences of 1012, 1013, 1014 ions/cm2. The irradiated samples were characterized by glancing angle X-ray diffraction (GXRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX). GXRD confirmed incomplete amorphisation of HAp with increase in fluence. There was considerable reduction in particle size on irradiation leading to nanosized HAp (upto 53 nm). PL studies showed emission in the visible wavelength region. The irradiated samples exhibited better bioactivity than the pristine HAp.  相似文献

Use of bio-oils in diesel engines results in increased NOx and smoke and reduced brake thermal efficiency. Dual-fuel engines can use a wide range of fuels mainly alcohols and yet operate with high thermal efficiency and simultaneous reduction of NO and smoke emissions. The present study aims to explore the effect of methanol–waste cooking oil (WCO) dual-fuel mode on performance and emission characteristics in a single cylinder Compression ignition (CI) engine producing 3.7 kW at 1,500 rpm. WCO was injected in the conventional injection system, replacing diesel as pilot fuel. Methanol was fumigated along with intake air using a variable jet carburetor, which was installed in the inlet manifold. The methanol was fumigated, and the energy share was varied for each load till the knock limit. Performance parameters like brake thermal efficiency (BTE) and emission parameters like HC, CO, NO, and smoke emissions were tested for various energy shares of methanol with WCO as a pilot fuel. The results show that an increase in methanol fumigation reduced BTE at lower loads. At 75% and 100% load conditions, BTE was higher with methanol addition. The maximum BTE was observed for 38% methanol share, which is about 11% higher, compared to WCO at 100% load condition. Methanol fumigation aided in the simultaneous reduction of NO and smoke emission, and the maximum reduction was occurred with 51% methanol share at 100% load condition. HC and CO emissions were higher at all load conditions with methanol fumigation.  相似文献

Droplet spreading behaviour over a porous surface is a complex phenomenon, and is a basic component of many industrial processes, for example the spray coating process. The coating process has wide applications and this includes coating of urea fertilizer to produce slow release urea. The quality of coating film in such applications is affected by many factors, one of them being droplet spreading on the substrate. Droplet spreading behaviour is affected by process parameters such as viscosity, density, surface tension, impact velocity, porosity, etc. Droplet spreading on a porous surface involves penetration into the porous surface and spreading on the surface. Previously, the effect of individual process parameters has been studied. The current work aims at finding the interactive effect of process parameters on droplet spreading behaviour by using response surface methodology. The combined effect of liquid viscosity, impact velocity, and surface porosity has been studied on contact angle, spreading factor, and residual drop volume. The results show that minimum contact angle can be achieved with maximum impact velocity, minimum porosity, and minimal liquid viscosity. Similar behaviour was observed with droplet residual volume. Maximum spreading factor was attained at minimum viscosity and porosity while impact velocity was at maximum level.  相似文献

Many factors in the current scenario have influenced manufacturing organisations to have a competitive edge by concentrating on entire supply chains. Sourcing decisions are one of the strategic decisions because they enable companies to reduce costs and improve profit figures. The main task in sourcing is vendor selection. Recent challenges such as shortened product life cycle, just-in-time environment, and the importance of strategic partnerships in upstream chains always influence companies to prioritise vendor selection. In addition, outsourced parts and components account for a significant contribution in the cost of finished goods. Thus evaluating and selecting the right vendor is the key to business. Vendors are selected merely on the basis of cost factors in the traditional approach. However, companies eventually have understood that their approach which emphasises costs as the sole criterion is inefficient and needs to be changed. To deal with the complex process of vendor evaluation, multiple criteria decision-making techniques have evolved. This study presents the integrated approach of multiple multi criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques such as fuzzy logic, strength-weakness-opportunity-threat (SWOT) analysis, and data envelopment analysis. The efficacy of the proposed approach is evident from the case study of an automotive component manufacturer involving 20 vendors, comprising of pre-qualification by fuzzy SWOT and final selection by DEA.  相似文献
