The corrosion of low carbon steel in natural sea-water is characterized by the formation and growth of compact and thick layers composed of oxides, insoluble salts and organic materials. These layers are the result of corrosion processes induced by local environmental conditions, water oxygen supply; ionic species; bacteria and organic matter. The exchange of various species (ions, molecules, gas) between sea-water and the rust layers or the metal depends both on the kinetics of the Faradaic reactions of the entities with either the oxides or the metal, as well as on their transport properties through the different strata of the rust layers. In this work, an impedance study was carried out using the 4-electrodes cell arrangement with corrosion products picked up on steel sheet piling immersed for 25 years and analyzed as free standing membranes. This new approach is a good way to reach the specific transport and transfer properties of the oxide without being blurred by the metal influence. The physical model developed in this work was based on a transmission line, and accurately described the experimental diagrams. The electronic resistivity of the oxide layer, its porosity, the mean pore size and the reaction kinetics parameters could be determined from the fittings. 相似文献

People faced with an unfamiliar product or service tend to fall back on mental models based on analogical relationships with familiar products or services. Two experiments on the analogical relationships or metaphors that people might use when operating a communications terminal are described. In the first experiment, the role previously acquired operating knowledge has in determining the mental models people use when directory dialing with novel equipment is examined. In a second experiment, it is shown that an explicit appeal to an analogy between conventional mail and electronic mail can help users learn to use an electronic mail system, and make it easier for them to remember how to use the system as long as 90 days after initial exposure. The authors have developed a modified MBE growth process to produce high-gain n-p-n GaAs-AlGaAs heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) with a mean time to failure (MTTF) of 1.5×108 h at 125°C. Beryllium incorporation and diffusion are controlled through a combination of reduced substrate temperature and increased As/Ga flux ratio during MBE growth, resulting in extremely stable HBT profiles. The authors also demonstrate graded InGaAs surface layers with nonalloyed refractory metal contacts that significantly improve ohmic reliability compared to alloyed AuGe contacts. The large amplitude oscillatory shear test has been used to discriminate subtle differences in nonlinear viscoelasticity between two high density polyethyene blow molding resins with different processability. Structural network theory was used to explain the subtle differences in terms of entanglement kinetics with remarkable accuracy. Computational models of periodic- and aperiodic-pattern selective cells, also called grating and bar cells, respectively, are proposed. Grating cells are found in areas V1 and V2 of the visual cortex of monkeys and respond strongly to bar gratings of a given orientation and periodicity but very weakly or not at all to single bars. This non-linear behaviour, which is quite different from the spatial frequency filtering behaviour exhibited by the other types of orientation-selective neurons such as the simple cells, is incorporated in the proposed computational model by using an AND-type non-linearity to combine the responses of simple cells with symmetric receptive field profiles and opposite polarities. The functional behaviour of bar cells, which are found in the same areas of the visual cortex as grating cells, is less well explored and documented in the literature. In general, these cells respond to single bars and their responses decrease when further bars are added to form a periodic pattern. These properties of bar cells are implemented in a computational model in which the responses of bar cells are computed as thresholded differences of the responses of corresponding complex (or simple) cells and grating cells. Bar and grating cells seem to play complementary roles in resolving the ambiguity with which the responses of simple and complex cells represent oriented visual stimuli, in that bar cells are selective only for form information as present in contours and grating cells only respond to oriented texture information. The proposed model is capable of explaining the results of neurophysiological experiments as well as the psychophysical observation that the perception of texture and the perception of form are complementary processes. 相似文献

The scalar transform is a new representation for signals, offering a perspective that is different from the Fourier transform. We introduce the notion of a scalar periodic function. These functions are then represented through the discrete scale series. We also define the notion of a strictly scale-limited signal. Analogous to the Shannon interpolation formula, we show that such signals can be exactly reconstructed from exponentially spaced samples of the signal in the time domain.
