(Bi1-xSbx)2Te3 thermoelectric thin films were deposited on stainless steel discs in 1 M perchloric acid and 0.1 M tartaric acid by pulse electrodeposition in order to optimize the grain growth. The influence of the electrolyte composition, the cathodic current density and the cathodic pulse time on film stoichiometry were studied. The results show that it is necessary to increase the Sb content in the electrolyte to obtain the (Bi0.25Sb0.75)2Te3 film stoichiometry. Pulse plating reduced the grain size and the roughness, compared with continuous plating. Thermoelectric and electrical properties were also studied and it was found that the Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivity were related to two parameters: the cathodic pulse current density and the films thickness.  相似文献

Dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) was identified as a major volatile constituent of Brassica napus roots heavily infested by Delia radicum, the cabbage root fly. Attractiveness of this widespread compound was tested in the field in a naturally complex odorous environment. By using an original setup especially designed for ground dwelling beetles, different concentrations of the pure molecule as well as attractiveness of the natural blend emitted by the rotten part of infested roots were tested simultaneously. The use of general linear model (GLM) statistics permitted us to finely discriminate the responses among the different treatments. The main predators of D. radicum (i.e., two staphylinids Aleochara bilineata and Aleochara bipustulata and carabid beetles of the genus Bembidion) were significantly attracted by DMDS, but responded in different ways to the natural blend and to the different concentrations tested. The dose–response curves were similar for the two staphylinids. However, whereas A. bilineata was more attracted by the natural volatile blend than by its preferred DMDS concentration, A. bipustulata was attracted as much by the natural blend as by its preferred DMDS concentration. Carabid beetles exhibited a different response. They were not attracted by the natural blend, but responded to a wider range of DMDS concentrations that included low concentrations that did not attract the staphylinid beetles. These results are discussed according to the potential resources searched by each taxon studied and their specificity for the resources. The possible use of DMDS for enhancing biological control of D. radicum is mentioned.  相似文献

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most malignant type of primary brain tumor with a very poor prognosis. The actual standard protocol of treatment for GBM patients consists of radiotherapy and concomitant temozolomide (TMZ). However, the therapeutic efficacy of this treatment is limited due to tumor recurrence and TMZ resistance. Recently isolated, glioma stem-like cells (GSCs) are thought to represent the population of tumorigenic cells responsible for GBM resistance and recurrence following surgery and chemotherapy. In addition, MGMT (O6-methylguanine-methyltransferase) methylation is considered as one of the principal mechanisms contributing to TMZ sensitivity of GBM. In this study we have isolated GSCs from 10 adult GBM patients and investigated the relationship between MGMT methylation status and Temozolomide (TMZ) sensitivity of these lines grown either in stem-like or differentiation promoting conditions. Sensitivity to TMZ was significantly associated with MGMT methylation status in cells committed to differentiation but not in stem-like cells. In addition, patients harboring highly methylated MGMT promoters had a longer overall survival. These results reveal the importance of the differentiation process when considering the predictive value of MGMT status in GSCs for clinical response to TMZ.  相似文献

Accurate localization of the optic radiation is key to improving the surgical outcome for patients undergoing anterior temporal lobe resection for the treatment of refractory focal epilepsy. Current commercial interventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners are capable of performing anatomical and diffusion weighted imaging and are used for guidance during various neurosurgical procedures. We present an interventional imaging workflow that can accurately localize the optic radiation during surgery. The workflow is driven by a near real-time multichannel nonrigid image registration algorithm that uses both anatomical and fractional anisotropy pre- and intra-operative images. The proposed workflow is implemented on graphical processing units and we perform a warping of the pre-operatively parcellated optic radiation to the intra-operative space in under 3 min making the proposed algorithm suitable for use under the stringent time constraints of neurosurgical procedures. The method was validated using both a numerical phantom and clinical data using pre- and post-operative images from patients who had undergone surgery for treatment of refractory focal epilepsy and shows strong correlation between the observed post-operative visual field deficit and the predicted damage to the optic radiation. We also validate the algorithm using interventional MRI datasets from a small cohort of patients. This work could be of significant utility in image guided interventions and facilitate effective surgical treatments.  相似文献

Surface reliefs due to phase transformations in a 56.8Ni-5.6Pt-37.6Al at. pct alloy were characterized in situ using digital holographic imaging during thermal cycling from room temperature up to 405 K (132 °C). The 3D images of the surface revealed that the austenite plates formed during heating are exactly the same for each cycle, which is not the case for the martensite plates formed during cooling. The martensite start temperature was found to vary by up to ~ 20 K from one grain to another within the same specimen. The absence of Ni3Al γ′ precipitates, due to the relatively high Al content, results in the propagation of the martensitic transformation over grains up to a millimeter in size. Bright-field optical imaging showed the formation of large martensite plates in some grains, with cracks perpendicular to these plates, upon cycling. Cracks were also observed at grain boundaries and could be related to the height variations across the grain boundaries.  相似文献

The ductility of various coatings deposited by chemical vapor deposition, pack cementation and slurry processes on Fe- and Ni-based alloys was characterized by indentation at room temperature. A hot indentation apparatus has also been developed to more rapidly determine the ductile to brittle transition temperature of coated specimens. Creep testing has been conducted on bare and coated alloy 230 (NiCrW) specimens at 800 °C with a significant decrease in creep life observed. Based on the observed failure of coated 230 specimens, the impact of coating ductility on substrate creep properties is discussed.  相似文献

The effect of 244Cm decay (T 1/2 = 18 years) on the radiation and chemical stability of the pyrochlore Gd1.935Cm0.065TiZrO7 was examined. Irradiation leads to degradation of its structure. The amorphization dose at room temperature is 4.60 × 1018 α-decay g−1 (or 0.60 displacements per atom, dpa). It is close to the corresponding value at ion irradiation of phases of similar composition and three times higher as compared to titanium pyrochlores with 238Pu or 244Cm. The rate of Cm leaching from the initial ceramics is 1.7 × 10−2 g m−2 day−1, and after amorphization it increases to 4.7 × 10−2 g m−2 day−1. The critical temperature (330 K) corresponds to probable conditions in sites of underground waste disposal. Therefore, such matrix will not undergo amorphization at any irradiation doses and will preserve its isolation properties in a repository.  相似文献

The creative class thesis of economic development has been influential in analyzing the mobility of human capital. The thesis has also had a major influence on the orientation of policies in North American cities regarding urban development aspects. Our aim is not to test this thesis of economic development as a whole but rather to use its quality of place criteria to evaluate how students enrolled in science and technology university programs decide where to live upon graduation. Using quantitative and qualitative material, this paper examines the influence of criteria related to quality of place and also to career opportunities concerning the mobility of students in science and technology who will soon be part of the professional category of the knowledge workers. Our hypothesis is that knowledge workers would be much more attracted by urban environments having more potential in terms of creativity, corresponding to the criterion emphasised in the creative class thesis. However, our results suggest that the quality of place is not as important as career opportunities. This does not lead us to refute the relevance of the creative class thesis but to nuance the relevance of various factors of location. It appears that the two cities in our study achieve different results on only one major point: the quality of life of Ottawa is a more powerful criterion of attraction/retention than in Montreal.  相似文献

The kinetics of iodate formation is a critical factor in mitigation of the formation of potentially toxic and off flavor causing iodoorganic compounds during chlorination. This study demonstrates that the formation of bromine through the oxidation of bromide by chlorine significantly enhances the oxidation of iodide to iodate in a bromide-catalyzed process. The pH-dependent kinetics revealed species specific rate constants of k(HOBr + IO(-)) = 1.9 × 10(6) M(-1) s(-1), k(BrO(-) + IO(-)) = 1.8 × 10(3) M(-1) s(-1), and k(HOBr + HOI) < 1 M(-1) s(-1). The kinetics and the yield of iodate formation in natural waters depend mainly on the naturally occurring bromide and the type and concentration of dissolved organic matter (DOM). The process of free chlorine exposure followed by ammonia addition revealed that the formation of iodo-trihalomethanes (I-THMs), especially iodoform, was greatly reduced by an increase of free chlorine exposure and an increase of the Br(-)/I(-) ratio. In water from the Great Southern River (with a bromide concentration of 200 μg/L), the relative I-incorporation in I-THMs decreased from 18 to 2% when the free chlorine contact time was increased from 2 to 20 min (chlorine dose of 1 mg Cl(2)/L). This observation is inversely correlated with the conversion of iodide to iodate, which increased from 10 to nearly 90%. Increasing bromide concentration also increased the conversion of iodide to iodate: from 45 to nearly 90% with a bromide concentration of 40 and 200 μg/L, respectively, and a prechlorination time of 20 min, while the I-incorporation in I-THMs decreased from 10 to 2%.  相似文献

In this paper an economic evaluation of photovoltaic grid connected systems (PVGCS) for companies situated in Flanders (Belgium) is conducted by using a generic Excel model. The model is unique in that it includes the dimension of taxation. This inclusion is required, otherwise the fiscal benefit of using solar panels is not accounted for. The model uses the cash flow projection method. This technique allows the calculation of the following classical evaluation criteria: net present value, internal rate of return, payback period, discounted payback period, profitability index, yield unit cost, yield unit revenue and break-even turnkey cost. Their outcome makes it possible to answer the question whether installing a PVGCS in Flanders is a responsible financial investment for companies. Furthermore, the paper estimates whether the corporate environment is ready for a subsidy legislation change. This change has recently been announced and as such it is possible to gauge whether the current market situation is profitable given future legislation.  相似文献
