A sensitive flow viscometer detector has been successfully used with time-delay, exponential-decay thermal field flow fractionation (TDE-TFFF) to produce unique information on polymers. TFFF with a concentration-dependent detector (e.g., refractometer) and a differential capillary viscometer is unable to produce a universal calibration plot that eliminates the necessity of polymer standards for accurate molecular-weight calibration. However, this system directly provides valuable information on the inherent (or intrinsic) viscosity distribution of polymers. Absolute intrinsic viscosity values are measured by TFFF without the need of calibration. Detailed TFFF/inherent-viscosity distribution profiles uniquely describe individual sample differences and are not affected by the experimental conditions used in TFFF separations. These viscosity distributions should be very useful in polymer characterization, since they are closely correlated with polymer end-use and solution properties, as well as to polymer molecule weight.  相似文献

The first “modern” type of vehicular bridge was built in Hong Kong China in the 1920s. The need for an efficient transportation system to cope with population growth and enable economic development has demanded the construction of more and more bridges since the middle of the 20th century. By 2007, Hong Kong had a total of about 1300 vehicular bridges. Four of these bridges, including the Tsing Ma Bridge, Kap Shui Mun Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, and the cable-stayed bridge on the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor, are considered to be major bridges supported by cables. Currently, the Stonecutters Bridge on Route No. 8 is under construction and is expected to be completed in late 2009. At the same time, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be in its detailed design stage soon. While efforts have been made by bridge builders to construct these giant structures, the upkeeping of these valuable assets at a high standard and ensuring their continuous functioning and performance during their intended lifespans will be another important task for bridge engineers. Wind and structural health monitoring system (WASHMS) will play a key role in this respect.  相似文献

A project to assess the impact on the transmission and distribution (TD) system due to the implementation of demand-side management (DSM) programs is described. Traditional TD planning methods are reviewed and procedural changes necessary to fully integrate DSM strategy analysis with the system planning process are discussed. Test procedures and results are discussed for a study conducted at a host utility. Several DSM strategies are analyzed to assess the impacts on a TD system serving a large metropolitan area  相似文献

The problem of parameter estimation of superimposed signals in white Gaussian noise is considered. The effect of the correlation structure of the signals on the Cramer-Rao bounds is studied for both the single and multiple experiment cases. The best and worst conditions are found using various criteria. The results are applied to the example of parameter estimation of superimposed sinusoids, or plane-wave direction finding in white Gaussian noise, and best and worst conditions on the correlation structure and relative phase of the sinusoids are found. This provides useful information on the limits of the resolvability of sinusoid signals in time series analysis or of plane waves in array processing. The conditions are also useful for designing worst-case simulation studies of estimation algorithms, and for the design of minimax signal acquisition and estimation procedures, as demonstrated by an example  相似文献

Thermocouples are often used to obtain gas temperature measurements in compartment fires. Such measurements are subject to a thermal lag during fire growth, but the main problem is a steady-state error induced by radiant heat transfer at the thermocouple surface. This error is sensitive to thermal parameters of the flame, compartment structure, thermocouple surface and combustion products; and is also influenced by the size and position of both the flame and thermocouple. The literature contains models of varying sophistication to enable an assessment of steady-state error. A model is now proposed that makes use of the concept of radiosity. Developed from radiant network theory, the model can be applied to both pre-flashover and post-flashover conditions. Experiments have been performed using different sizes of thermocouple and the models compared. The simpler models pre-date the more sophisticated and predict much larger errors than the latest published and current versions.  相似文献

This paper presents a systematic methodology based on Taguchi methods to determine and optimize a machine vision system's capability. Seven factors were studied in anL 27(313) orthogonal array: lens type, color of the background, distance between two objects on the target, distance between the camera and the target, filter, lighting source, and angle between the optic axis of the camera and the surface of the target. The optimal factor-level combination was determined from the experiment results, and the response surface plots were provided for a user to choose an alternative. Because this Taguchi methods-based methodology is simple and effective, it is recommended for determining and optimizing a machine vision system's capability.  相似文献

The number of pedestrian–motor vehicle accidents and pedestrian deaths in China surged in recent years. However, a large scale empirical research on pedestrian traffic crashes in China is lacking. In this study, we identify significant risk factors associated with fault and severity in pedestrian–motor vehicle accidents. Risk factors in several different dimensions, including pedestrian, driver, vehicle, road and environmental factors, are considered. We analyze 6967 pedestrian traffic accident reports for the period 2006–2010 in Guangdong Province, China. These data, obtained from the Guangdong Provincial Security Department, are extracted from the Traffic Management Sector-Specific Incident Case Data Report. Pedestrian traffic crashes have a unique inevitability and particular high risk, due to pedestrians’ fragility, slow movement and lack of lighting equipment. The empirical analysis of the present study has the following policy implications. First, traffic crashes in which pedestrians are at fault are more likely to cause serious injuries or death, suggesting that relevant agencies should pay attention to measures that prevent pedestrians from violating traffic rules. Second, both the attention to elderly pedestrians, male and experienced drivers, the penalty to drunk driving, speeding, driving without a driver's license and other violation behaviors should be strengthened. Third, vehicle safety inspections and safety training sessions for truck drivers should be reinforced. Fourth, improving the road conditions and road lighting at night are important measures in reducing the probability of accident casualties. Fifth, specific road safety campaigns in rural areas, and education programs especially for young children and teens should be developed and promoted. Moreover, we reveal a country-specific factor, hukou, which has significant effect on the severity in pedestrian accidents due to the discrepancy in the level of social insurance/security, suggesting that equal social security level among urban and rural people should be set up. In addition, establishing a comprehensive liability distribution system for non-urban areas and roadways will be conducive to both pedestrians’ and drivers’ voluntary compliance with traffic rules.  相似文献

Al surface morphology effect on flip-chip solder bump shear strength   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
This paper reports the result of a study on the effect of aluminum pad surface morphology on the flip-chip solder bump reliability. The influence of the Al surface morphology on the electroless zinc/nickel/gold UBM is presented. The reliability of the solder bump as measured by ball shear force is reported. Al pad were produced using two RF sputtering systems: CVC-601 and Varian-3180. The Al targets used in CVC and Varian system were 99%Al–1%Si and 98.95%Al–1%Si–0.05%Ti respectively. The surface of the CVC sputtered Al samples were smooth while the surface of the Varian sputtered Al samples were rough. All the samples were subjected to the electroless zinc/nickel/gold plating. The results suggest that after plating, the smooth Al surface resulted in a fine nickel UBM surface while the rough Al surface formed a coarse nickel UBM surface. Ball shear test was conducted after the solder balls were bumped on the UBM. Result shows that the fine UBM surface samples have twice the shear strength compared to the samples with coarse UBM surface samples. The analysis of the results indicates that shear surface occurred at the UBM and the solder interface for samples with rough UBM surface leading to the lower shear strength. Nickel bump shear test result shows that pretreatment of Al pad surface by sodium hydroxide and nitric acid created more zinc seeds this led to better electroless nickel plating. Nickel bump shear tests also shows that double zincated bumps had higher shear strength than single zincated bumps. To obtain reliable flip-chip solder bumps, it is essential to maintain good Al pad surface morphology, pretreatment of the Al pad and undergo second zincation.  相似文献

The recognition of odorants by olfactory receptors represents the first stage in odor discrimination. Here, we report the generation of an expression library containing a large and diverse repertoire of mouse olfactory receptor sequences in the transmembrane II-VII region. From this library, 80 chimeric receptors were tested against 26 odorants after transfection into HEK-293 cells. Three receptors were identified to respond to micromolecular concentrations of carvone, (-) citronellal, and limonene, respectively. We also found that the mouse I7 receptor, unlike the rat I7 receptor, prefers heptanal instead of octanal, as a result of a single valine-to-isoleucine substitution. This finding represents the beginning of a molecular understanding of odorant recognition. The identification, on a large scale, of cognate receptor-odorant interactions should provide insight into olfactory coding mechanisms.  相似文献
