In this paper, we propose a new compact fourth-order accurate method for solving the two-dimensional fourth-order elliptic boundary value problem with third-order nonlinear derivative terms. We use only 9-point single computational cell in the scheme. The proposed method is then employed to solve Navier–Stokes equations of motion in terms of streamfunction–velocity formulation, and the lid-driven square cavity problem. We describe the derivation of the method in details and also discuss how our streamfunction–velocity formulation is able to handle boundary conditions in terms of normal derivatives. Numerical results show that the proposed method enables us to obtain oscillation-free high accuracy solution.  相似文献

The effect of dynamic strain rates on failure responses of a fine‐grained granitic rock is studied experimentally and theoretically. Theoretical investigation employs a model incorporating dynamic fracture criterion with damage mechanics theory. Experimental investigation is conducted using split Hopkinson pressure bar device. In order to investigate the effects of microstructure on dynamic fracture failure under different loading rates, fragment debris of each tested specimen is collected and analyzed. It is found through the debris analysis that the granitic rock breaks down into the fragment debris in grain size scales and the effect of strain rates on the formation of fragment debris appears to be related to the microstructure of the rock. It is also found that dynamic inertia induced by the dynamic loading can reduce the effect of friction confinement generated by the contact between the cylindrical specimen and two split Hopkinson pressure bars on the dynamic responses of the specimen. Theoretical evaluations agree with the corresponding experimental observations.  相似文献

The paper describes the design of a neural network based model predictive controller for controlling the interface level in a flotation column. For the system identification, the tailings valve opening is subjected to a pseudo-random ternary signal and response of the interface level is recorded over a period of time. The data so generated is used to develop a dynamic feed forward neural network model. The model uses two past values and one present value of the tailings valve opening as well as interface level as inputs and predicts the future interface level. This model is used for the design of a model predictive controller to control the interface level. The controller was tested both for liquid–gas system as well as liquid–gas–solid system and was found to perform very satisfactorily. The performance of the controller was compared with that of a conventional PI controller for a two-phase system and was found to be better.  相似文献

Next-generation wireless systems (NGWS) integrate different wireless networks, each of which is optimized for some specific services and coverage area to provide ubiquitous communications to the mobile users. It is an important and challenging issue to support seamless handoff management in this integrated architecture. The existing handoff management protocols are not sufficient to guarantee handoff support that is transparent to the applications in NGWS. In this work, a cross-layer (Layer 2 + 3) handoff management protocol, CHMP, is developed to support seamless intra and intersystem handoff management in NGWS. Cross-layer handoff management protocol uses mobile's speed and handoff signaling delay information to enhance the handoff performance of Mobile IP that is proposed to support mobility management in wireless IP networks. First, the handoff performance of Mobile IP is analyzed with respect to its sensitivity to the link layer (Layer 2) and network layer (Layer 3) parameters. Then, a cross-layer handoff management architecture is developed using the insights learnt from the analysis. Based on this architecture, the detailed design of CHMP is carried out. Finally, extensive simulation experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of CHMP. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that CHMP significantly enhances the performance of both intra and intersystem handoffs.  相似文献

The effect of thiourea on the cathodic current efficiency (CE), deposit quality, crystallographic orientations, surface morphology, and polarization behavior of the cathode was investigated during nickel electrodeposition from acidic sulfate solutions for 2 hours at 60 °C. A slight decrease of 3 to 4 pct in the CE was observed, when the concentration of thiourea was increased from 2 to 40 mg dm−3. The nickel deposit quality deteriorated significantly at higher thiourea concentrations; the surface morphology deteriorated and the contamination of the nickel deposits increased. The presence of thiourea affected the peak intensities of the crystal planes. Cyclic voltammetric studies on nickel deposition at 25 °C revealed depolarization behavior of the cathode at lower thiourea concentrations, ≤10 mg dm−3; however, a mixed behavior is observed at higher thiourea concentrations. These changes were also observed in the exchange current density (i 0) values.  相似文献

A new topotactic sintering method using Fe2O3 (obtained from FeO · OH) and BaCO3 is developed for preparing cheaper grain oriented barium hexaferrite. Fe2O3 and BaCO3 (precipitate grade) are wet mixed in a ball mill in stoichiometric proportion. The mixed slurry is then dried at 110° C for about 12h. The dried powder mixture containing moisture as a binder is uniaxially compacted at 5×106–10×106 kg m–2 pressure. The green compacts are air sintered in the temperature range 1100–1300° C for 1 H. The best results of the sintered ferrite show maximum energy product (BH) max in the range 7–10 kTAm–1. The bulk of commercial requirements for toy magnets etc. may be met by this method of production which eliminates steps like calcination and cost intensive wet magnetic compaction.  相似文献

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a wide band gap semiconducting material that has various applications including optical, electronic, biomedical and corrosion protection. It is usually synthesized via processing routes, such as vapor deposition techniques, sol-gel, spray pyrolysis and thermal spray of pre-synthesized ZnO powders. Cheaper and faster synthesis techniques are of technological importance due to increased demand in alternative energy applications. Here, we report synthesis of nanostructured ZnO coatings directly from a solution precursor in a single step using plasma spray technique. Nanostructured ZnO coatings were deposited from the solution precursor prepared using zinc acetate and water/isopropanol. An axial liquid atomizer was employed in a DC plasma spray torch to create fine droplets of precursor for faster thermal treatment in the plasma plume to form ZnO. Microstructures of coatings revealed ultrafine particulate agglomerates. X-ray diffraction confirmed polycrystalline nature and hexagonal Wurtzite crystal structure of the coatings. Transmission electron microscopy studies showed fine grains in the range of 10-40 nm. Observed optical transmittance (∼65-80%) and reflectivity (∼65-70%) in the visible spectrum, and electrical resistivity (48.5-50.1 mΩ cm) of ZnO coatings are attributed to ultrafine particulate morphology of the coatings.  相似文献
