This paper investigates the effects of microwave irradiation on the synthesis of zeolite Na-A from coal fly ash at atmospheric pressure. Microwave irradiation has shown to accelerate zeolitization from several hours to several minutes. A single-mode laboratory-scale microwave was employed, which enabled control of irradiated power and temperature of the reaction mixture, while the pressure was controlled by affixing a condenser on the 40 mL Teflon reactor vessel with a working volume 20 mL. Design of Experiment was used to compare two methods of converting CFA to zeolite-A, direct hydrothermal method and indirect fusion method. Experiments conducted were two level four factorial designs. The first factor considered was the categorical factor of conversion method (hydrothermal vs fusion), while the other three factors investigated were power (P), time (θ), and aluminate concentration (δ). Zeolite produced from CFA (CFAZA) was characterized using XRD, FTIR, SEM, TGA, BET, and cation exchange capacity. It was observed that the crystallinity of the product was influenced by factors such as, conversion method, power, time, and aluminate concentration. The hydrothermal and fusion products were comparable to each other in their characteristics, however, hydrothermal CFAZA performed better at immobilizing heavy metal ions and showed better crystalline structure, whereas fusion CFAZA had a higher BET surface area and a slightly higher CEC. Regardless of the performance of the categorical factors the other factors, i.e., power, time, and aluminate concentration followed the same trend for both types of CFAZA.  相似文献

Fouling of evaporative cooler and condenser tubes is one of the most important factors affecting their thermal performance, which reduces effectiveness and heat transfer capability with time. In this paper, the experimental data on fouling reported in the literature are used to develop a fouling model for this class of heat exchangers. The model predicts the decrease in heat transfer rate with the growth of fouling. A detailed model of evaporative coolers and condensers, in conjunction with the fouling model, is used to study the effect of fouling on the thermal performance of these heat exchangers at different air inlet wet bulb temperatures. The results demonstrate that fouling of tubes reduces gains in performance resulting from decreasing values of air inlet wet bulb temperature. It is found that the maximum decrease in effectiveness due to fouling is about 55 and 78% for the evaporative coolers and condensers, respectively, investigated in this study. For the evaporative cooler, the value of process fluid outlet temperature Tp,out varies by 0.66% only at the clean condition for the ambient wet bulb temperatures considered. The 2352 bp gene coding for 783 amino acid family B DNA polymerase from Pyrobaculum calidifontis was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. Expression of the gene resulted in the production of Pca-Pol in soluble fraction. After heat denaturation of the host proteins, the Pca-Pol was further purified by ion exchange and hydrophobic interaction chromatographies. Activity gel analysis showed the presence of a catalytically active polypeptide of about 90 kDa. The mass of the protein, determined by Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry was found to be 89,156 Da. The isoelectric point of the enzyme was found to be 6.13. The optimal pH and magnesium ion concentration for the enzyme activity were 8.5 and 4mM, respectively. Unlike other commercially available DNA polymerases the enzyme activity of Pca-Pol was inhibited by monovalent cations such as ammonium and potassium. The half-life of the polymerase at 95 °C and 100 °C was 4.5h and 0.5h, respectively. The enzyme possessed 3'→5' exonuclease activity and was able to amplify, under suitable conditions, up to 7.5 kb DNA fragments by polymerase chain reaction which makes it a potential candidate for amplification of long DNA fragments.  相似文献

Release of oil from nuts due to damaged cellular structures can degrade the quality of products incorporating nuts. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different processing conditions on microstructure of almond tissue and to quantify these changes using image processing. Spinning disk confocal fluorescence microscopy was used for imaging changes in microstructure of almonds as a function of different thermal processing of almonds. Multiple staining of Nile Red and Calcofluor White was applied to differentiate cell wall structures and oil bodies within individual almond cells without chemical fixation. An algorithm for image processing, included image preprocessing, segmentation, and determination of morphological features of segmented objects, was developed. Oil-roasting processes (140 °C and 150 °C) were found to have a significant impact on microstructure of almonds when compared to the hot air-roasting and blanching processes. Oil-roasted almond at 150 °C had a greater cellular damage due to cell wall and membrane rupture. These changes in microstructure of almonds would make them slightly more susceptible to release oil during storage. The image analysis presented allows quantitative evaluation for the effect of different processing on almond microstructure.  相似文献

Out of the many promising applications of metal hydrides, refrigeration, heat pumping and heat transformation are important. In order to achieve improved performance, a novel three-alloy cycle is proposed in which, for heat input at an intermediate temperature, heat outputs at high temperature and also at warm temperature are obtained in addition to refrigeration. The performance of this cycle using the alloys LaNi4.6Sn0.4, LaNi4.7Al0.3 and MmNi4.5Al0.5 is studied based on thermodynamics and reaction kinetics. Coefficients of performance, half-cycle times and specific alloy outputs are evaluated.  相似文献

Ethanol and chloroform extracts of pumpkin, quince, muskmelon, and bottle gourd seeds were studied for in-vitro antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Crude protein and fat contents of all the seeds compared favorably with high protein legumes and high oil containing oilseeds. Ethanol and chloroform extracts of bottle gourd seeds had highest phenolic content. A direct positive relationship between antioxidant activities and extract concentration was observed with the relationship being more pronounced in chloroform extract of quince seeds (R2?=?0.9685 and 0.9829) followed by ethanol extract of pumpkin seeds (R2?=?0.9666 and 0.9685) as per 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) method, respectively. Seed extracts were also studied for in-vitro antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhii, Enterococcus sp., Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. Ethanol extract of pumpkin seeds inhibited the growth of all bacteria; however, both the extracts of quince seeds did not show any activity against S. typhii, E. coli and S. aureus.  相似文献

The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of environmental damage (stripping) on the hot mix asphalt (HMA) creep behavior. To achieve this objective, 24 different HMA combinations using different mix parameters were evaluated for their resistance to static creep deformations. The mix parameters include: two types of asphalt cement, three types of aggregate gradation, and two types of antistripping additives (limestone dust and calcium stearate hydroxide). Marshall specimens were prepared at optimum asphalt contents and tested for static creep. Part of the prepared specimens were exposed to freezing–thawing conditioning according to AASHTO T283.  相似文献

An alternate method to measure the phantom scatter factor in small fields is provided for high energy photon beams. The measurement technique is based on the density scaling theorem described by O'Connor [Phys. Med. Biol. 1, 352-369 (1957)]. The phantom scatter factor (Sp) is measured in balsa and cedar wood to give effective field sizes in 3 x 3 to 0.5 x 0.5 cm2 water. The extrapolated zero area phantom scatter factor from the average data of balsa and cedar is 0.45. This indicates that the variation of output is largely due to a sharp decrease in the phantom scatter factor for small field sizes.  相似文献
