A first investigation into the production of amorphous and nanostructured Ti-based alloys with nominal compositions Ti41.5Zr41.5Ni17, Ti61Zr22Ni17, Ti41.5V41.5Ni17 and Ti61V22Ni17 by mechanical alloying (MA) technique is presented. This technique was adopted to produce alloys' powders with high fresh surface area that were active for hydrogen storage. Hydrogen absorption characteristics and structure changes in the alloys after hydrogenation were investigated. Gas phase hydrogenation of the Ti–Zr–Ni alloys, at 573 K and an initial hydrogen pressure of 2 MPa, exhibited good hydriding properties and started at a maximal rate without induction period with a hydrogenation capacity up to 1.2 wt%. However, hydriding of Ti–V–Ni alloys at the same conditions exhibited slower rates. The Ti61V22Ni17 composition showed high hydrogen absorption capacity of 1.8 wt% and exceeded 4 wt% at 345 K. In addition, the Ti–V–Ni alloys showed structure stability after hydrogenation and retained the amorphous structure. 相似文献

Titanium alloys are widely used in the aeronautical and engineering fields as they show an excellent trade-off between the mass and mechanical properties, but as hard materials, they are difficult to machine using cutting tools. The abrasive water jet affords a good solution to produce titanium parts, especially slim ones. To do so, there is a need to adopt a modelling approach for the depth milled. However, a general methodology that takes into account all the parameters leads to complex models based on a large number of experiments. The present article proposes a depth of cut model combined with a rapid calibration method. The case addressed is that of open rectangular pockets on a Ti-6AL-4V titanium alloy. The approach introduces the machine configuration notion considering that a given machine, pressure level and abrasive impose the abrasive flow rate needed in order to obtain an optimal material removal rate. For a chosen configuration, calibration of the model is performed from a series of elementary passes and just three pocket machining passes. Permanent ground deformation is a severe hazard for continuous buried pipelines. This technical paper presents results from four centrifuge tests designed to investigate the influence of pipe-fault orientation on pipe behavior under earthquake faulting. The experimental setup and procedures are described, and the test results are presented. The test results show that, as expected, pipe axial strain is strongly influenced by the pipe-fault orientation angle, whereas the influence of pipe-fault orientation angle on pipe bending strain is minor. The measured pipe strains were shown to follow the trend predicted by the Kennedy model. Also, through a parametric study using the Kennedy model, the experimental data were extrapolated for cases of pipeline with longer unanchored length. By combing the data from strain gauges and tactile pressure sensors, transverse force–deformation relations or p–y relations for the pipe were determined. The data indicates that the underlying p–y relationship varies along the length of the pipe with a stiffer p–y relationship at points closer to the fault and a softer p–y relationship at points farther away. The stiffer p–y relationship, appropriate for locations moderately close to the fault, was compared with the ASCE Guidelines in 1984 and Turner’s recommendation in 2004 for moist sand. It was found that the force level for the plastic p–y behavior in the centrifuge tests compared favorably with that in the ASCE Guidelines (1984). 相似文献

In order to assess the high performance nature of poly(ethersulfone) or to provide an understanding of its molecular origin, stress-strain measurements were carried out as a function of temperature for neat poly(ethersulfone) as well as its glass- and carbon-reinforced composites. It was observed that the modulus of these samples has not dramatically changed when changing the temperature; instead, the tensile strength values changed on the expense of the elongation at break as to keep the modulus constant. Close inspection of the molecular-level behavior of the material using molecular simulation techniques revealed that the distribution of the dihedral angles around the oxygen and sulfur atoms did not drastically change below the heat deflection temperature, possibly due to the rigidity of the polymeric chains. However, above that temperature the conformational change was evident as the chains exhibited more of the higher energy conformations. Young's modulus predicted for the polymer indicated a good agreement with the experimental observations thus suggesting the validity of the model to describe the real system. This work describes the synthesis of the green and black polymorphic forms of the tetrathiafulvalene–chloranil (TTF–CA) charge transfer salt as pure phases, by solvent-assisted mechanochemistry. Both materials were characterized using laboratory and high-resolution X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), elemental analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The high-resolution XRPD pattern of the TTF–CA black polymorph was indexed with a triclinic lattice a = 10.756(5) Å, b = 11.057(4) Å, c = 6.614(2) Å, α = 101.36(2)°, β = 93.69(3)°, γ = 89.37(3)°, V = 769.6(5) Å3. The chemical stability of these phases upon heating was investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), elemental analysis and X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), indicating that both polymorphs undergo chemical decomposition, and ruling out the transition to an air-stable high temperature polymorph. 相似文献

This paper presents the results of fire resistance tests on carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) strengthened concrete flexural members, i.e., T-beams and slabs. The strengthened members were protected with fire insulation and tested under the combined effects of thermal and structural loading. The variables considered in the tests include the applied load level, extent of strengthening, and thickness of the fire insulation applied to the beams and slabs. Furthermore, a previously developed numerical model was validated against the data generated from the fire tests; subsequently, it was utilized to undertake a case study. Results from fire tests and numerical studies indicate that owing to the protection provided by the fire insulation, the insulated CFRP-strengthened beams and slabs can withstand four and three hours of standard fire exposure, respectively, under service load conditions. The insulation layer impedes the temperature rise in the member; therefore, the CFRP–concrete composite action remains active for a longer duration and the steel reinforcement temperature remains below 400°C, which in turn enhances the capacity of the beams and slabs. 相似文献

Feasibility of grey water treatment in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor operated at different hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 16, 10 and 6h and controlled temperature of 30 degrees C was investigated. Moreover, the maximum anaerobic biodegradability without inoculum addition and maximum removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) fractions in grey water were determined in batch experiments. High values of maximum anaerobic biodegradability (76%) and maximum COD removal in the UASB reactor (84%) were achieved. The results showed that the colloidal COD had the highest maximum anaerobic biodegradability (86%) and the suspended and dissolved COD had similar maximum anaerobic biodegradability of 70%. Furthermore, the results of the UASB reactor demonstrated that a total COD removal of 52-64% was obtained at HRT between 6 and 16 h. The UASB reactor removed 22-30% and 15-21% of total nitrogen and total phosphorous in the grey water, respectively, mainly due to the removal of particulate nutrients. The characteristics of the sludge in the UASB reactor confirmed that the reactor had a stable performance. The minimum sludge residence time and the maximum specific methanogenic activity of the sludge ranged between 27 and 93 days and 0.18 and 0.28 kg COD/(kg VS d). 相似文献
