Novel organic-inorganic hybrids were prepared from polybenzoxazine and titania using sol-gel process by blending titanium isopropoxide as a precursor for titania with a typical benzoxazine monomer, bis(3-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-benzoxazinyl)isopropane (Ba). Deep red brown and transparent hybrid materials were obtained after thermal cure at 200 °C. DSC indicated that, in the presence of titania precursor, the onset and maximum temperature of the exothermic peak due to the ring opening polymerization of Ba decreased by ca. 30 and 70 °C, respectively. Viscoelastic analyses revealed that the glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the polybenzoxazine-titania hybrids shifted to higher temperature than the neat polybenzoxazine. The storage moduli below Tg for the hybrids increased with the increase of the titania content, and the storage moduli were maintained constant up to higher temperature than the neat resin. TGA results confirmed that the thermal stability and char yield of polybenzoxazine increased by hybridization with titania.  相似文献

Silver nanoparticles doped in polyvinyl alcohol (AgNps/PVA) were synthesized via polymer-promoted reductive reaction of AgNO3 and PVA under time-dependent exposure to UV radiation. The AgNps/PVA composites were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy to describe the structure, nuclearity, and distribution of Ag Nps within the PVA matrix. The UV–Vis spectrum of AgNps/PVA exhibited a broad surface plasmon absorption around 425–443 nm which originated from the formation of Ag NPs. Surface analysis by XPS indicated that the Ag NPs were grown solely on the PVA surface at UV exposure time of 2 h (2.0AgNPs/PVA). Increasing the UV exposure time to 4 h will cause the transformation of metallic nanosilver to oxidized nanosilver. UV–Vis absorption spectra were in situ recorded to follow the synthesis of Prussian blue (PB) on 2.0AgNPs/PVA (PB@2.0AgNPs/PVA). The colloidal dispersion of 2.0AgNPs/PVA in an acidic medium containing free Fe(III) ions and potassium hexacyanoferrate(III) revealed an additional band centered at 720 nm due to the intermetal charge-transfer absorbance of the polymeric Fe(II)-C-N-Fe(III) of the PB@2.0AgNPs/PVA nanocomposite. Control experiments were shown to involve a spontaneous electron transfer reaction between 2.0AgNPs/PVA and Fe(III) ions, with a concomitant decomposition of hexacyanoferrate(III) and formation of PB was observed. Moreover, IR gave clear cut evidence for the synthesis of PB@2.0AgNPs/PVA from the appearance of a band for the cyano group at 2090 cm?1.  相似文献

Titanium alloys are widely used in the aeronautical and engineering fields as they show an excellent trade-off between the mass and mechanical properties, but as hard materials, they are difficult to machine using cutting tools. The abrasive water jet affords a good solution to produce titanium parts, especially slim ones. To do so, there is a need to adopt a modelling approach for the depth milled. However, a general methodology that takes into account all the parameters leads to complex models based on a large number of experiments. The present article proposes a depth of cut model combined with a rapid calibration method. The case addressed is that of open rectangular pockets on a Ti-6AL-4V titanium alloy. The approach introduces the machine configuration notion considering that a given machine, pressure level and abrasive impose the abrasive flow rate needed in order to obtain an optimal material removal rate. For a chosen configuration, calibration of the model is performed from a series of elementary passes and just three pocket machining passes. The method is rapid and effective as the accuracy of the models obtained over a number of configurations was to within the order of 5%.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to analyse the application of the Peatross–Beyler (P&B) correlation (Fire and safety science—Proceedings of the fifth international symposium, 1997) to calculate the Mass loss rate (MLR) for a pool fire in a confined and ventilated enclosure for a range of conditions.The experimental references considered are the PRISME-SI-D1, D2 and D6 tests (Prétrel et al. in 9th International seminar on fire safety in nuclear power plants and installations, 2005), conducted by the Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire.The dimensions of the enclosure used in the experiment are 5 m in length, 6 m in width and 4 m in height. A pool fire, \(0.4\,\hbox {m}^2\) hydrogenated tetrapropylene (TPH, \(\hbox {C}_{12}\hbox {H}_{26}\)), is located in the center of the room. The compartment is connected to the outside through an inlet and outlet. The P&B correlation is implemented as a boundary condition in computational fluid dynamics calculations. The MLR outcome depends on the average \(\hbox {O}_2\) concentration in a predefined volume and the characteristics of the fuel. The influence of the size and location of the predefined volume, the ventilation branch position (at 1 m and 3.65 m from the floor) and the Renewal Rate (\(R_r\)) (\(4.7\,\hbox {h}^{-1}\) and \(8.4\,\hbox {h}^{-1}\)) are studied. Two types of \(\hbox {O}_2\) predefined volumes have been tested: layer and ring. The layer volume is located in the low part of the compartment, the base of the volume spanning the compartment floor. The ring is a volume around the pit. It is assumed for both approaches that the measured \(\hbox {O}_2\) is representative of the available oxygen for the flame. The P&B boundary condition predicts the influence of the vitiation on the MLR. Other methods, such as imposing the MLR expected in open condition, overpredict the amount of injected fuel. The results show that the P&B correlation provides good agreement with the experimental data. The deviation between experimental data and numerical prediction for the average MLR in the best case is ?5.0% with absolute values of 0.004 kg/s and 0.0038 kg/s for the experiment and the simulation respectively for case PRS-SI-D1. The MLR calculation is influenced by the position of the ventilation opening and the \(R_r\). The temperature and \(\hbox {O}_2\) concentration profiles are significantly influenced by the ventilation configuration. These differences are related to the transport of the injected air from the inlet to the floor by density difference.  相似文献

Detection of antigen-specific T-cells is critical for diagnostic assessment and design of therapeutic strategies for many disease states. Effective monitoring of these cells requires technologies that assess their numbers as well as functional response. Current detection of antigen-specific T-cells involves flow cytometry and functional assays and requires fluorescently labeled, soluble forms of peptide-loaded major histocompatability complexes (MHC). We demonstrate that nanoscale solid-state complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology can be employed to allow direct, label-free electronic detection of antigen-specific T-cell responses within seconds after stimulation. Our approach relies on detection of extracellular acidification arising from a small number of T-cells (as few as approximately 200), whose activation is induced by triggering the T-cell antigen receptor. We show that T-cell triggering by a nonspecific anti-CD3 stimulus can be detected within 10 s after exposure to the stimulus. In contrast, antigen-specific T-cell responses are slower with response times greater than 40 s after exposure to peptide/MHC agonists. The speed and sensitivity of this technique has the potential to elucidate new understandings of the kinetics of activation-induced T-cell responses. This combined with its ease of integration into conventional electronics potentially enable rapid clinical testing and high-throughput epitope and drug screening.  相似文献

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities reported that approximately 55% of sewer infrastructure in Canada did not meet current standards. Therefore, the burden on Canadian municipalities to maintain and prioritize sewers is increasing. One of the major challenges is to develop a framework to standardize the condition assessment procedures for sewer pipelines. Lack of detailed knowledge on the condition of sewer networks escalates vulnerability to catastrophic failures. This research presents a proactive methodology of assessing the existing condition of sewers by considering various physical, environmental, and operational influence factors. Based on historic data collected from two municipalities in Canada, structural and operational condition assessment models for sewers are developed using the multiple regression technique. The developed regression models show 82 to 86% accuracy when they are applied to the validation data set. These models are utilized to generate deterioration curves for concrete, asbestos cement, and polyvinyl chloride sewers in relation to traffic loads, bedding materials, and other pipe characteristics. The developed models are expected to assist municipal engineers in identifying critical sewers, prioritizing sewer inspections, and rehabilitation requirements.  相似文献

Permanent ground deformation is a severe hazard for continuous buried pipelines. This technical paper presents results from four centrifuge tests designed to investigate the influence of pipe-fault orientation on pipe behavior under earthquake faulting. The experimental setup and procedures are described, and the test results are presented. The test results show that, as expected, pipe axial strain is strongly influenced by the pipe-fault orientation angle, whereas the influence of pipe-fault orientation angle on pipe bending strain is minor. The measured pipe strains were shown to follow the trend predicted by the Kennedy model. Also, through a parametric study using the Kennedy model, the experimental data were extrapolated for cases of pipeline with longer unanchored length. By combing the data from strain gauges and tactile pressure sensors, transverse force–deformation relations or p–y relations for the pipe were determined. The data indicates that the underlying p–y relationship varies along the length of the pipe with a stiffer p–y relationship at points closer to the fault and a softer p–y relationship at points farther away. The stiffer p–y relationship, appropriate for locations moderately close to the fault, was compared with the ASCE Guidelines in 1984 and Turner’s recommendation in 2004 for moist sand. It was found that the force level for the plastic p–y behavior in the centrifuge tests compared favorably with that in the ASCE Guidelines (1984).  相似文献

Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history. The effects of the hurricane were particularly devastating in the city of New Orleans. Most of the damage was due to the failure of the levee system that surrounds the city to protect it from flooding. This paper presents the results of centrifuge models conducted at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers simulating the behavior of the levees at London Avenue North and South that failed during Hurricane Katrina. Those levees failed without being overtopped by the storm surge. Also included are the results of a centrifuge model of one levee section at Orleans Canal South, which did not fail during the hurricane. The key factor of the failure mechanism of the London Avenue levees was the formation of a gap between the flooded side of the levee and the sheetpile. This gap triggered a reduction of the strength at the foundation of the protected side of the levee. The results are fully consistent with field observations.  相似文献

The reuse of paper solid waste (PSW) as a low-cost sorbent for Cd removal from aqueous phase was investigated. Batch experiments were conducted to study the effects of pH (3.5, 5.5, 7.5), contact time (10–360 min), PSW dose (2.5–20 g L?1), and Cd concentration (5–50 mg L?1) at an ionic strength of 0.01 M NaNO3 on adsorption efficiency and capacity. Cd removal of ~96% occurred in 20 mg L?1 Cd solution at pH 5.5 containing 20 g L?1 PSW. Equilibrium was attained after 120 min and the equilibrium adsorption capacity of PSW increased with increasing Cd concentration from 5 to 50 mg L?1. The kinetic process of Cd adsorption obeyed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Langmuir and Freundlich models described equally well the experimental data and the maximum adsorption capacity was 4.89 mg g?1. PSW can be used for reducing Cd concentration in Cd-contaminated water systems.  相似文献
