Feasibility of grey water treatment in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor operated at different hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 16, 10 and 6h and controlled temperature of 30 degrees C was investigated. Moreover, the maximum anaerobic biodegradability without inoculum addition and maximum removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) fractions in grey water were determined in batch experiments. High values of maximum anaerobic biodegradability (76%) and maximum COD removal in the UASB reactor (84%) were achieved. The results showed that the colloidal COD had the highest maximum anaerobic biodegradability (86%) and the suspended and dissolved COD had similar maximum anaerobic biodegradability of 70%. Furthermore, the results of the UASB reactor demonstrated that a total COD removal of 52-64% was obtained at HRT between 6 and 16 h. The UASB reactor removed 22-30% and 15-21% of total nitrogen and total phosphorous in the grey water, respectively, mainly due to the removal of particulate nutrients. The characteristics of the sludge in the UASB reactor confirmed that the reactor had a stable performance. The minimum sludge residence time and the maximum specific methanogenic activity of the sludge ranged between 27 and 93 days and 0.18 and 0.28 kg COD/(kg VS d).  相似文献

A completely solar-powered greenhouse complex has been designed for climate controlled food production in hot, humid environments. The concept uses passive design features to provide irrigation water from saline water sources. This paper discusses the overall system concept and the solar still subsystem which has been designed to provide a continuous fresh water supply. While incorporating many innovative features, the use of proven technologies and passive design results in a system that should compete economically with current, more traditional designs.  相似文献

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities reported that approximately 55% of sewer infrastructure in Canada did not meet current standards. Therefore, the burden on Canadian municipalities to maintain and prioritize sewers is increasing. One of the major challenges is to develop a framework to standardize the condition assessment procedures for sewer pipelines. Lack of detailed knowledge on the condition of sewer networks escalates vulnerability to catastrophic failures. This research presents a proactive methodology of assessing the existing condition of sewers by considering various physical, environmental, and operational influence factors. Based on historic data collected from two municipalities in Canada, structural and operational condition assessment models for sewers are developed using the multiple regression technique. The developed regression models show 82 to 86% accuracy when they are applied to the validation data set. These models are utilized to generate deterioration curves for concrete, asbestos cement, and polyvinyl chloride sewers in relation to traffic loads, bedding materials, and other pipe characteristics. The developed models are expected to assist municipal engineers in identifying critical sewers, prioritizing sewer inspections, and rehabilitation requirements.  相似文献

This article describes RISCBOT (RISCBOT name has been derived from RISC lab and ‘bot’ of robot, a modular 802.11 b-enabled mobile autonomous robot built at the RISC lab of the University of Bridgeport. RISCBOT localizes itself and successfully fulfills www – enabled online user requests and navigates to various rooms, employing a visual recognition algorithm. This article describes the mechanical design, hardware and software algorithms of the robot, and the web-based interface for communicating with the robot. The aim of this paper is to analyse the application of the Peatross–Beyler (P&B) correlation (Fire and safety science—Proceedings of the fifth international symposium, 1997) to calculate the Mass loss rate (MLR) for a pool fire in a confined and ventilated enclosure for a range of conditions.The experimental references considered are the PRISME-SI-D1, D2 and D6 tests (Prétrel et al. in 9th International seminar on fire safety in nuclear power plants and installations, 2005), conducted by the Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire.The dimensions of the enclosure used in the experiment are 5 m in length, 6 m in width and 4 m in height. A pool fire, \(0.4\,\hbox {m}^2\) hydrogenated tetrapropylene (TPH, \(\hbox {C}_{12}\hbox {H}_{26}\)), is located in the center of the room. The compartment is connected to the outside through an inlet and outlet. The P&B correlation is implemented as a boundary condition in computational fluid dynamics calculations. The MLR outcome depends on the average \(\hbox {O}_2\) concentration in a predefined volume and the characteristics of the fuel. The influence of the size and location of the predefined volume, the ventilation branch position (at 1 m and 3.65 m from the floor) and the Renewal Rate (\(R_r\)) (\(4.7\,\hbox {h}^{-1}\) and \(8.4\,\hbox {h}^{-1}\)) are studied. Two types of \(\hbox {O}_2\) predefined volumes have been tested: layer and ring. The layer volume is located in the low part of the compartment, the base of the volume spanning the compartment floor. The ring is a volume around the pit. It is assumed for both approaches that the measured \(\hbox {O}_2\) is representative of the available oxygen for the flame. The P&B boundary condition predicts the influence of the vitiation on the MLR. Other methods, such as imposing the MLR expected in open condition, overpredict the amount of injected fuel. The results show that the P&B correlation provides good agreement with the experimental data. The deviation between experimental data and numerical prediction for the average MLR in the best case is ?5.0% with absolute values of 0.004 kg/s and 0.0038 kg/s for the experiment and the simulation respectively for case PRS-SI-D1. The MLR calculation is influenced by the position of the ventilation opening and the \(R_r\). The temperature and \(\hbox {O}_2\) concentration profiles are significantly influenced by the ventilation configuration. These differences are related to the transport of the injected air from the inlet to the floor by density difference.  相似文献

In this paper, Galerkin’s method in the Fourier transform domain is applied to the determination of the resonant frequencies and half-power bandwidth of rectangular microstrip patch on composite and suspended substrates. Using Galerkin’s method in solving the integral equation numerically, the complex resonant frequency of the microstrip antenna on suspended and composite substrates is studied with sinusoidal functions as basis functions, which show fast numerical convergence. The validity of the solution is tested by comparison of the computed results with experimental data. Finally, numerical results for the effects of suspended and composite substrates on the resonant frequency and half-power bandwidth are also presented.  相似文献

The present research reports of quick and marked changes induced by plant extract of Euryops arabicus in thegene expression of 49-kDa apyrases, cytoskeletal proteins, ATPases, ADPase and amount of amino acid of pea (Pisumsativum L. var. Alaska). Pellets of cytoskeletals proteins (27000 xg) were probed with anti-apyrase antibody, biotinylatedanti-rat, actin and alpha and beta-tubulin for Western blotting. ATPase and ADPase activities were determined basedon the hydrolytic efficacy of adenine triphosphate and adenine diphosphate. By 72 hours, the abundance of apyrases,cytoskeletal proteins and amount of amino acid in pellets of 27000 xg of germinated pea seeds in E. arabicus extractswere sharply increased than those sown in distilled water. All the samples exhibited that the stems had more amountfrom apyrases, cytoskeletal proteins, amino acids and ATPase and ADPase activities than primary leaves and primaryroots that were germinated either on E. arabicus water extract or in distilled water. Based on the enzyme’s capability tohydrolyse nucleotide triphosphate and nucleotide diphosphate as well as the direct association between expression of49-kDa apyrase and cytoskeletal proteins, E. arabicus water extract had an important effect on plant germinations.  相似文献
