A large range of ingredients for food and food products are subject to fungal contamination, which is a major cause of destruction of crops, exposure of animals and humans to invasive mycotoxins, and food spoilage. The resistance of fungal species to common preservation methods highlights the necessity of new ways to increase the shelf life of raw material for food and food products. Antimicrobial peptides and proteins (AMPs) are essential members of the immune system of most living organisms. Due to their broad range of activity and their stability to commonly used food processes, they represent promising alternatives to traditional preservatives. However, despite the growing number of reports of potential food applications of these AMPs, the number of approved peptides is low. Poor solubility, toxicity, and a time‐consuming extraction are hurdles that limit their application in food products. Thanks to a deep understanding of the key determinants of their activity, the development of optimized synthetic peptides has reduced these drawbacks. This review presents natural and synthetic antifungal peptides/proteins (AFPs), effective against food‐related fungi, with particular emphasis on AFPs from plant sources. The design of novel antifungal peptides via key elements of antifungal activity is also reviewed. The potential applications of natural and synthetic AFPs as novel antifungal food preservatives are finally discussed.  相似文献

Natural dyes and pigments have been proposed as an eco-friendly alternative to artificial pigments. Among the diverse organisms able to synthesize natural dyes and pigments, several wood inhabiting fungi produce extracellular compounds which have been tested to dye fabrics at laboratory conditions with good results. However, the dyeing conditions used at laboratory level not necessary meet the real conditions in which dyeing of fabrics is conducted at industrial level. In this work, yellow and red dyes producing fungi, Penicillium murcianum and Talaromyces australis, respectively, were isolated from wood samples and used to dye wool fabrics at conditions of temperature, pH, additives, and equipment similar to those used at industrial level. After dyeing treatments, color fastness to washing, wet and dry rubbing, and tensile strength were tested. Satisfactory results were found when the dyes were used individually and mixed to different proportions. According to the results, natural dyes synthesized by these two wood inhabiting fungi have great potential to be used for dyeing of wool at industrial level.  相似文献

We fabricate and investigate wavelength selective components utilizing channel plasmon polaritons (CPPs) and operate at telecom wavelengths: a waveguide-ring resonator-based add-drop multiplexer (WRR-ADM) and a compact (3.75-microm-long) Bragg grating filter (BGF). The CPP waveguides represent 0.5-microm-wide and 1.3-microm-deep V-grooves in gold, which are combined with a 5-microm-radius ring resonator (in the WRR-ADM) or 0.5-microm-long wells milled with the period of 0.75 microm across a groove (in the BGF). The CPP-based components are characterized in the wavelength range of 1425-1600 nm by use of near-field optical microscopy, exhibiting the wavelength selectivity of approximately 40 nm.  相似文献

Six varieties of Solanum tuberosum L potato grown in the Bolivian highlands under drought stress, with and without irrigation, were analysed for their content of glycoalkaloids (GAs). The plant material consisted of three drought‐tolerant varieties from a local breeding programme (PROINPA), Potosina, Chapaquita and Pampeña, and three control cultivated varieties, Malcacho, Sani Imilla and Desiree, either susceptible or relatively tolerant to drought. α‐Solanine and α‐chaconine were quantified in both the peel and flesh of the tubers. A significant increase in GA concentration (α‐solanine + α‐chaconine) was observed under drought stress conditions in most varieties; average concentration increases of 43 and 50% were registered in the improved and control cultivars respectively. In all tested cultivars, however, the GA concentration remained lower than the recommended food safety level (200 mg kg−1 fresh tubers). It ranged from 52.4 to 100 mg kg−1 fresh tubers in the improved cultivars and from 55.6 to 122.3 mg kg−1 fresh tubers in the controls. In the improved and control varieties the α‐solanine content averaged 42.6 and 35.4% of the total potato GAs respectively and was not significantly affected by drought stress, except in Desiree. In all conditions the peel contained the greatest proportion of total GAs. The hybrid variety Pampeña (new drought‐tolerant variety) contained the lowest amounts of GAs, which were lower than those of the control varieties, with and without irrigation. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

We demonstrate writing and probing of light-induced waveguides in photorefractive bulk LiNbO3 crystal using an endlessly single-mode photonic crystal fiber. The optical waveguides are written at visible wavelengths by slightly raising the ferroelectric crystal temperature to benefit from the pyroelectric-driven photorefractive effect and the guiding properties are investigated at telecom wavelengths using the same photonic crystal fiber. End butt coupling with this photonic crystal fiber enables writing and probing of optical waveguides due to the self-alignment properties of spatial solitons.  相似文献

The variability of histological and cell wall chemical characteristics of apricot were assessed in nine apricot varieties: Harogem, Goldrich, Hargrand, Iranien, Moniqui, Orangered® Bhart, Stark Early Orange, Ravicille and Rouge du Roussillon. In this article, the important role of the intrinsic defects in size-controlled ZnO nanowires (NWs) which play a critical role in the properties of the NWs, was studied with a combined innovative experimental analysis. The NWs prepared by both the aqueous solution method and chemical vapour deposition process were of increasing length and decreasing size-to-volume (S/V) ratio. The combined approach involved different analytical and spectroscopic techniques and from the correlation between the different measurements, the concentration of the oxygen vacancies jointly with the zinc interstitials defects and the zinc vacancy defects was observed to be positively or negatively correlated, respectively, with the magnitude of the photoluminescence intensity and radiative lifetimes. Furthermore, the experimental results also suggest that the oxygen vacancy defects are not only spatially located on the surface of the NW but an increasing fraction of the total oxygen vacancy defects connected with the green emission is also located in an annulus region beneath the surface as the ZnO NWs elongate. On the other hand, as the donor concentration plays a critical function in the properties of the ZnO NWs, an analytical model was derived for the calculation of the donor concentration of the NWs directly from its reverse-biased current-voltage characteristics obtained from the conductive atomic force microscopy measurements.  相似文献

Polylactide (PLA) filaments produced by melt spin-drawing in different conditions (draw ratio, temperature of the draw roll) have been studied to demonstrate the influence of the process conditions on the tensile properties of the PLA filaments. Draw ratio varies from 2 to 3.5 and temperature of the draw roll from 80°C to 120°C. The thermal characteristics have been investigated using modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC) and crystallinity using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Shrinkage of PLA multifilaments depending on the processing conditions is also investigated. It is demonstrated that the temperature of the draw roll is essential to obtain PLA filaments with optimum properties. At 80°C, the size of the lamellar crystals, measured using DRX, is not the highest. It is necessary to set the temperature of the draw roll at 110°C to obtain thick lamellar crystals. So, in those conditions, the PLA filaments have their optimum mechanical properties.  相似文献

The influence of various conditions of Inconel 738 superalloy welding or deposition welding has been studied in order to shed light on the coupling between thermal, metallurgical and mechanical states in the heat affected zone (HAZ) in which cracking may occur particularly during welding and post-weld heat treatment. Predominant crack controlling factors have been highlighted thanks to different pre-weld and post-weld heat treatments, in addition to various welding rates and pre-heating prior to welding. These factors are mainly the material ductility related to the morphology and volume fraction of intermetallic precipitates and thermally induced residual stress. It has appeared that reducing thermally induced residual stress could be more effective for preventing cracking than controlling the material ductility in the related zones thanks to adjustment of pre-weld and post-weld heat treatments. With the objective of cracking remediation, welding on preheated parts leads to lower weld power, to reduce significantly thermal gradients, decreases thermally induced stress and impedes cracks formation despite some localized and temporary decrease in alloy ductility.  相似文献
