Measurements have been carried out at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Bevatron to investigate the response of multiwire proportional chambers to 2. 1 GeV/nucleon C12 and O16 nuclei. The relative gas gain as a function of high voltage was measured for three different gases: 80% Ar/20%CO2, 75% Ar/ 25%C4H10, and 81% Ar/14% Xe/5%CO2. The gas gain obtained with 5.9 KeV X-rays from Fe55 sources was also measured for comparison. Saturation characteristics of the chambers are analyzed and the implications of the results on the use of multiwire proportional chambers as spatial detectors in cosmic ray experiments are discussed. A summary of the results of delta ray calculations and their effect on spatial resolution is also presented.  相似文献

A design procedure for the receiver of a pulse amplitude modulation system is developed for data transmission in the presence of intersymbol interference and noise. In the receiver, an estimate of each source symbol is made based on the WienerKolmogorov theory of minimum variance estimation for stationary time series. The resulting structure is called a recursive equalizer and its taps are obtained by taking the canonical factorization of the spectral density function followed by the operations of polynomial multiplication and division. The performance of the system is evaluated by calculating the probability of error versus signal-signal-to-noise ratio and Comparing it to the performance of a conventional tapped delay line equalizer. The specific example presented uses raised-cosine signaling through a channel with slope-attenuation distortion and a zero phase characteristic. For this example, the recursive equalizer is shown to exhibit superior-performance.  相似文献

This article describes the fabrication of polymer structures with lateral dimensions in the sub-micron regime using hard X-rays (λc ≈ 0.4 nm) from the electron storage ring ANKA. Spincoated polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) grades have been analyzed with respect to development rates and contrast. The contrast has been determined to be constant over a wide dose regime but rapidly decreases for dose values below 1 kJ/cm3. Films with a thickness from 2 to 11 μm have been patterned using a high resolution X-ray mask consisting of 2 μm thick gold absorbers on a suspended 1 μm thick silicon nitride membrane. The fabrication of sub-micron X-ray lithography structures with feature sizes down to 400 nm is confined by the mechanical parameters of the resist material and the process conditions. Surface tension after development limits the achievable aspect ratio of isolated pillars and walls, depending on the actual resist height. PMMA structures have been successfully used as template for electroplating of 1 μm thick gold to demonstrate the fabrication capability of sub-micron scale metal parts.  相似文献

In this paper we present a packet scheduling method which guarantees bandwidth of the connection and optimizes revenue of the network service provider. A closed form formula for updating the adaptive weights of a packet scheduler is derived from a revenue-based optimization problem. The weight updating procedure is fast and independent on the assumption of the connections’ statistical behavior. The features of the algorithm are simulated and analyzed with and without a call admission control (CAC) mechanism. We also show in context with the CAC procedure a mechanism for guaranteeing a specified mean bandwidth for different service classes.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the detailed study of the unipolar recharging phenomenon of the nanocluster NVM cells based upon the electron emission from the nanodots and their subsequent neutralization. It is shown that electron emission from nanodots is a very fast and effective process with a time constant <5 ms, but the subsequent neutralization of the positive accumulated charge is strongly dependent on the excess of Si atoms stored in the nanodots.  相似文献

Adopting diffusion theory and the concept of social value orientation, the effects of personality traits on knowledge sharing in a virtual open content community are investigated. In addition to the main effects of personality, it was hypothesized that intrinsic motivations would moderate the effects on knowledge sharing. A sample of N = 256 active users of Wikipedia provided measures of personality, motivation, and knowledge sharing. Latent regression analyses support the notion that authorship of Wikipedia is associated with higher levels of trendsetting and a prosocial value orientation. Moreover, moderation analyses demonstrate that the effect of the latter is moderated by individual differences in motivations to write. Differences with regard to opinion leadership could not be confirmed.  相似文献

Close-range hyperspectral imaging is a new method for geological research, in which imaging spectrometry is applied from the ground, allowing the mineralogy and lithology in near-vertical cliff sections to be studied in detail. Contemporary outcrop studies often make use of photorealistic three-dimensional (3D) models, derived from terrestrial laser scanning (lidar), that facilitate geological interpretation of geometric features. Hyperspectral imaging provides complementary geochemical information that can be combined with lidar models, enhancing quantitative and qualitative analyses. This article describes a complete workflow for applying close-range hyperspectral imaging, from planning the optimal scan conditions and data acquisition, through pre-processing the hyperspectral imagery and spectral mapping, integration with lidar photorealistic 3D models, and analysis of the geological results. Pre-processing of the hyperspectral images involves the reduction of scanner artefacts and image discontinuities, as well as relative reflectance calibration using empirical line correction, based on two calibrated reflection targets. Signal-to-noise ratios better than 70:1 are achieved for materials with 50% reflectance. The lidar-based models are textured with products such as hyperspectral classification maps. Examples from carbonate and siliciclastic geological environments are presented, with results showing that spectrally similar material, such as different dolomite types or sandstone and siltstone, can be distinguished and spectrally mapped. This workflow offers a novel and flexible technique for applications, in which a close-range instrument setup is required and the spatial distribution of minerals or chemical variations is valuable.  相似文献

Many social interactions require the synchronization—be it automatically or intentionally—of one's own behavior with that of others. Using a dyadic drumming paradigm, the authors delineate lifespan differences in interpersonal action synchronization (IAS). Younger children, older children, younger adults, and older adults in same- and mixed-age dyads were instructed to drum in synchrony with their interaction partner at a constant, self-chosen tempo. Adult-only dyads showed the highest and children-only the lowest levels of IAS accuracy. It is important to note that children improved reliably in IAS accuracy when paired with older partners. The observed age-related differences in IAS accuracy remained reliable after statistically controlling for individual differences in the ability to synchronize to a metronome and for between-dyad differences in tempo. The authors conclude that IAS improves from middle childhood to adulthood and that adult interaction partners may facilitate its development. Bioactive glasses have been developed as scaffolds for bone tissue engineering but combination with reindeer bone protein extract has not been evaluated. We investigated the effects of bone protein extract implants (5–40 mg dosages) with bioglass (BG) carrier on the healing of rat femur defects. Bioglass implants and untreated defects served as controls. All doses of extract increased bone formation compared with the control groups, and bone union was enhanced with doses of 10 mg or more. In comparison with untreated defect, mean cross-sectional bone area at the defect site was greater when implants with BG + 15 mg of extract or bioglass alone were used, bone density at the defect site was higher in all bioglass groups with and without bone extract, and the BG + 15 mg extract dosage marginally increased bone torsional stiffness in mechanical testing. Bioglass performed well as a carrier candidate for reindeer bone protein extract.  相似文献
