Monolithic techniques for mode and polarisation control in vertical-cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) using shallow surface structures are summarized and put in the context with other techniques in terms of performance and manufacturability. The method of using circular-symmetric surface structures for mode control and their combination with a sub-wavelength surface grating for simultaneous mode and polarisation control is described in detail, and adherent experimental results for both 850-nm and 1.3-mum oxide-confined VCSELs are presented.  相似文献

ZrO2-SiO2 and Nb2O5-SiO2 mixture coatings as well as those of pure zirconia (ZrO2), niobia (Nb2O5), and silica (SiO2) deposited by ion-beam sputtering were investigated. Refractive-index dispersions, bandgaps, and volumetric fractions of materials in mixed coatings were analyzed from spectrophotometric data. Optical scattering, surface roughness, nanostructure, and optical resistance were also studied. Zirconia-silica mixtures experience the transition from crystalline to amorphous phase by increasing the content of SiO2. This also results in reduced surface roughness. All niobia and silica coatings and their mixtures were amorphous. The obtained laser-induced damage thresholds in the subpicosecond range also correlates with respect to the silica content in both zirconia- and niobia-silica mixtures.  相似文献

Biosynthesis of ethylene (ethene) is mainly performed by plants and some bacteria and fungi, via two distinct metabolic routes. Plants use two steps, starting with S-adenosylmethionine, while the ethylene-forming microbes perform an oxygen dependent reaction using 2-oxoglutarate and arginine. Introduction of these systems into Saccharomyces cerevisiae was studied in silico. The reactions were added to a metabolic network of yeast and flux over the two networks was optimised for maximal ethylene formation. The maximal ethylene yields obtained for the two systems were similar in the range of 7-8 mol ethylene/10 mol glucose. The microbial metabolic network was used for testing different strategies to increase the ethylene formation. It was suggested that supplementation of exogenous proline, using a solely NAD-coupled glutamate dehydrogenase, and using glutamate as the nitrogen source, could increase the ethylene formation. Comparison of these in silico results with published experimental data for yeast expressing the microbial system confirmed an increased ethylene formation when changing nitrogen source from ammonium to glutamate. The theoretical analysis methods indicated a much higher maximal yield per glucose for ethylene than was experimentally observed. However, such high ethylene yields could only be obtained with a concomitant very high respiration (per glucose). Accordingly, when ethylene production was optimised under the additional constraint of restricted respiratory capacity (i.e. limited to experimentally measured values) the theoretical maximal ethylene yield was much lower at 0.2/10 mol glucose, and closer to the experimentally observed values.  相似文献

In the present work, microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) made from bleached sulfite softwood dissolving pulp was utilized to reinforce a poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) biopolymer matrix. To improve the dispersibility of the hydrophilic MFC in the nonpolar matrix and the interfacial adhesion in the composite material, we covalently grafted the MFC with PCL via ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL). To be able to investigate the effect of the PCL graft length on the mechanical properties of the composite material, we performed ROP to different molecular weights of the grafts. Bionanocomposites containing 0, 3, and 10 wt % MFC were prepared via hot pressing using both unmodified and PCL grafted MFC (MFC-g-PCL) as reinforcement. PCL grafting resulted in improved dispersion of the MFC in a nonpolar solvent and in the PCL matrix. The mechanical testing of the biocomposites showed an improvement in the mechanical properties for the PCL grafted MFC in comparison to ungrafted MFC. It was also shown that there was an impact on the mechanical properties with respect to the PCL graft lengths, and the strongest biocomposites were obtained after reinforcement with MFC grafted with the longest PCL graft length.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates significant effects on phenanthrene degradation in diesel contaminated soil by the addition of organic amendments such as whey and fermented whey. Both amount of amendment added and mode of administration was shown to be decisive. There was a strong positive effect on the 14C-mineralization of phenanthrene by multiple (bi-weekly) additions of fermented whey 210 mg dw kg−1 soil dw (FW multi) and also by single dose addition of 2100 mg dw sweet whey kg−1 soil dw (SW high). The most prominent effects on phenanthrene degradation kinetics were a five to fifteen fold increase in the linear growth term (k2) and a 23-27% increase in bioavailability factor S0 for SW high and FW multi respectively. Also, total mineralization at the end of the experiment increased from 46% in the control to 66 and 71% respectively and the lag time was reduced from 21 to 15 days by multiple addition of fermented whey. The most significant stimulating effects on phenanthrene degradation kinetics could be attributed to lactate and vitamins. This study demonstrates a more complex dependence of carbon sources and growth factors for an aromatic compound such as phenanthrene in comparison to hexadecane.  相似文献

The paper deals with the modeling of thin, monolayer graphene membranes, which have significant electrical and physical properties used for nano- or micro-devices, such as resonators and nanotransistors. The membrane is considered as a homogenized graphene monolayer on the macroscopic scale, and a continuum–atomistic multiscale approach is exploited, focusing the Tersoff–Brenner (TB) potential for the interaction between the carbonic bonds. The associated Representative atomistic Unit Lattice (RUL) is thereby considered as a micro-scale quasi-continuum placed in context of computational homogenization. In this development, the Cauchy–Born rule (CBN) is extended by the atomic fluctuation to allow for relaxation in the RUL. The paper discusses the handling of the TB-potential, both in the context of macro–micro homogenization, and in the context of numerical implementation perspectives. In particular, explicit expressions of the homogenized membrane forces and stiffness are expressed in terms of the first and second gradient of the potential, with due consideration to the involved “non-local” pairwise interaction in the model. In addition, the detailed resulting macroscopic non-linear and linearized finite element response is formulated in terms of the relaxed lattice level atomistic response. Numerical results are provided for the lattice response in terms of the apparent anisotropic behavior induced by the graphene atomic structure. An assessment of the convergence of RULs with respect to different deformation states of the lattice membrane is also carried out. Finally, a validation of an experiment of a circular graphene membrane, using atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements, is provided based on standard TB-parameters available in the literature.  相似文献

One-dimensional superconducting transistors have been fabricated with individual InAs nanowires (NWs) using radio-frequency sputter cleaning followed by in situ metal deposition. Because of the highly transparent contacts formed in between the InAs NWs and the metals, supercurrent, multiple Andreev reflections and Shapiro steps under microwave radiation have been observed. Near pinch-off gate regions, Fabry-Perot interference and a normal conductance quantization with resonant features have been observed, which were found to be correlated with a supercurrent flow.  相似文献
