Photic stimulus and serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) are two factors known to regulate vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) synthesis in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). To explore the role of 5-HT in the photic stimulus-induced change in VIP synthesis, we investigated the changes in level of VIP mRNA under a 12 h light/12 h dark cycle following depletion of 5-HT by intraperitoneal administration of p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA) methyl ester (200 mg/kg concentration) for 3 successive days. To estimate VIP mRNA expression, we performed in situ hybridization using imaging plates combined with microcomputer-based imaging analysis. In light-phase, total signals of VIP mRNA from the PCPA-treated rats showed a significant decrease compared with those from the saline-treated control rats. However, in dark-phase, there were no significant decreases between the PCPA-treated rats and the saline-control rats. The present results strongly suggest that 5-HT neuronal inputs to the SCN interfere with the effect of photic stimulus on VIP synthesis at the mRNA level.  相似文献

Speech signals generally have many intervals with low energy “energy dips”. For music signals, energy dips are not always remarkable. We studied stochastic features of energy dips for speech and music signals. A certain difference was found between the signals in the length of energy dips. Also, the number of energy dips in a time window and their distribution were investigated. From this distribution, a threshold number of energy dips was estimated which provided a scheme for the discrimination of speech from music.  相似文献

This work explores the effect of virtual fixture admittance on the performance, defined by error and time, of task execution with a human-machine cooperative system. A desired path is obtained using computer vision, and virtual fixtures for assistance in planar path following were implemented on an admittance-controlled robot. The admittance controller uses a velocity gain, so that the speed of the robot is proportional to the force applied by the operator. The level of virtual fixture guidance is determined by the admittance ratio, which is the ratio of the admittance gain of the force components orthogonal to the path to the gain of the force components parallel to the path. In Experiment 1, we found a linear relationship between admittance ratio and performance. In Experiment 2, we examined the effect of admittance ratio on the performance of three tasks: path following, off-path targeting, and obstacle avoidance. An algorithm was developed to select an appropriate admittance ratio based on the nature of the task. Automatic admittance ratio tuning is recommended for next-generation virtual fixtures. Actual or potential applications of this research include surgery, assembly, and manipulation at the macro and micro scales.  相似文献

This study investigated the influence of PUFA on the properties of mouse skin. Mice (3 wk old) were given free access to oils high in linoleic acid, CLA, or DHA for 4 wk. At the end of the experiment, their skins were compared by both biochemical and histological methods. No significant differences in lipid and collagen contents were detected among treatments, although the FA composition in the skin was altered depending upon the FA composition of the supplemented oils. Electron microscopy revealed that the subcutaneous tissue layers in the CLA and DHA groups were significantly thinner than that in the high linoleic acid group, whereas no differences in the thickness of dermis layers were observed among the three groups. These results suggest that skin properties in mice are readily modified by dietary FA sources within 4 wk of dietary oil supplementation.  相似文献

A fine SiC fiber is synthesized from a polymer blend of polycarbosilane (PCS) and polyvinylsilane (PVS) with electron beam curing under vacuum. The obtained SiC fiber from the PCS-PVS blend polymer has smaller average diameter of 8.5 m than that of 11.8 m from PCS, and shows higher average tensile strength of 3.2 GPa than that of 2.8 GPa from PCS after heat treatment at 1673 K in Ar gas atmosphere. However, the SiC fiber from the polymer blend decreases in tensile strength after heat treatment above 1773 K due to -SiC crystal growth near the fiber surface, because of a small amount of oxygen incorporated in the fiber.  相似文献

Low-oxygen SiC fibers which were fabricated by curing with electron-beam irradiation and firing at 1273 and 1573 K (fiber-A and fiber-B) were exposed at 1673 to 1973 K. Significant differences in surface composition, crystallinity, specific resistivity, and tensile strength were found between fiber-A and fiber-B. On exposing the fibers to high temperatures, they both crystallized nearly completely into intermixed β-SiC and free carbon, and consequently the resistivity decreased markedly. Deep voids were formed at the surface of fiber-A as a result of rapid dehydrogenation at the earliest stage of high-temperature exposure. On the other hand, fiber-B, which decomposed mildly, had a dense pore-free structure. The fiber strength was proportional to the reciprocal square root of SiC crystal size. At the same crystal size, the strength of fiber-A was lower because of the surface flaws.  相似文献
