Operational decision-making processes for networked infrastructure management often occur as a multi-actor planning problem, implying these are based on negotiations between different stakeholders in addition to available system quality information. As such, does more accurate data about actual structural condition lead to other or better decision-making? A serious game is introduced, Maintenance in Motion, aiming at investigating the influence of information quality on rehabilitation decisions, for single- and multi-actor decision-making. Players manage drinking water, gas, sewer and street infrastructures. They are to balance their individual goal, cost-effectiveness, with their team utility, increasing overall infrastructure quality to minimise failure while minimising overall public costs. Barium titanate (BaTiO3) thin films are prepared by conventional 2-methoxy ethanol-based chemical solution deposition. We report highly c-axis-oriented BaTiO3 thin films grown on silicon substrates, coated with a lanthanum oxynitrate buffer layer of 8.9 nm. The influence of the intermediate buffer layer on the crystallization of BaTiO3 film is investigated. The annealing temperature and buffer layer sintering conditions are optimized to obtain good crystal growth. X-ray diffraction measurements show the growth of highly oriented BaTiO3 thin films having a single perovskite phase with tetragonal geometry. The scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy studies indicate the presence of smooth, crack-free, uniform layers, with densely packed crystal grains on the silicon surface. A BaTiO3 film of 150-nm thickness, deposited on a buffer layer of 7.2 nm, shows a dielectric constant of 270, remnant polarization (2Pr) of 5 μC/cm2, and coercive field (Ec) of 60 kV/cm.  相似文献

In situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) has been performed to investigate the active site on Au-based catalysts in the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction. The surface area and hence the WGS activity is higher for AuTiO2 catalysts supported on carbon nanofibres (CNF) than TiO2. The WGS reaction rate depends on the Au coordination number with an apparent maximum close to eight which corresponds to a particle size of approximately 2.5–3.0 nm. A likely cause for the changes in the electronic structure of Au is the adsorption of CO on the surface, which also creates a small positive charge in the Au atoms. The catalytic activity significantly improves when titania is present compared to Au deposited directly on CNF.  相似文献

Since 2003 India has been actively promoting the cultivation of Jatropha on unproductive and degraded lands (wastelands) for the production of biodiesel suitable as transportation fuel. In this paper the life cycle energy balance, global warming potential, acidification potential, eutrophication potential and land use impact on ecosystem quality is evaluated for a small scale, low-input Jatropha biodiesel system established on wasteland in rural India. In addition to the life cycle assessment of the case at hand, the environmental performance of the same system expanded with a biogas installation digesting seed cake was quantified. The environmental impacts were compared to the life cycle impacts of a fossil fuel reference system delivering the same amount of products and functions as the Jatropha biodiesel system under research. The results show that the production and use of Jatropha biodiesel triggers an 82% decrease in non-renewable energy requirement (Net Energy Ratio, NER = 1.85) and a 55% reduction in global warming potential (GWP) compared to the reference fossil-fuel based system. However, there is an increase in acidification (49%) and eutrophication (430%) from the Jatropha system relative to the reference case. Although adding biogas production to the system boosts the energy efficiency of the system (NER = 3.40), the GWP reduction would not increase (51%) due to additional CH4 emissions. For the land use impact, Jatropha improved the structural ecosystem quality when planted on wasteland, but reduced the functional ecosystem quality. Fertilizer application (mainly N) is an important contributor to most negative impact categories. Optimizing fertilization, agronomic practices and genetics are the major system improvement options.  相似文献

Biogrouting is a biological ground improvement method, in which microorganisms are used to induce carbonate precipitation in the subsurface in order to increase the strength and stiffness of granular soils. In this paper the results of a large-scale experiment (100?m3) are presented, in which the feasibility of biogrouting as a ground improvement method is investigated using techniques and equipment similar to those used in potential applications. In situ geophysical measurements were used to monitor the biogrouting process during treatment and indicated that the stiffness had increased significantly after one day of treatment. The results of unconfined compressive strength tests on samples which were excavated after treatment were used to assess the distribution of mechanical properties throughout the cemented sand body, which correlated quite well with the results of the in situ geophysical measurements. The stiffness increase could be quantified as a function of the injected volume of grouting agents and the distance from the injection points. These results will serve as an important benchmark for future applications of biomediated ground improvement.  相似文献

Does psi exist? D. J. Bem (2011) conducted 9 studies with over 1,000 participants in an attempt to demonstrate that future events retroactively affect people's responses. Here we discuss several limitations of Bem's experiments on psi; in particular, we show that the data analysis was partly exploratory and that one-sided p values may overstate the statistical evidence against the null hypothesis. We reanalyze Bem's data with a default Bayesian t test and show that the evidence for psi is weak to nonexistent. We argue that in order to convince a skeptical audience of a controversial claim, one needs to conduct strictly confirmatory studies and analyze the results with statistical tests that are conservative rather than liberal. We conclude that Bem's p values do not indicate evidence in favor of precognition; instead, they indicate that experimental psychologists need to change the way they conduct their experiments and analyze their data. Third World rural planning involves the transfer of First World technologies to the socially and ecologically vulnerable tropical environment. This transfer is guided by normative, “ideological” views concerning social and environmental issues which often remain implicit. To uncover these views, a content analysis of a series of papers has been carried out, focused on impoldering as a type of project with far reaching social and environmental impacts. Three types of “ideologies” could be distinguished, which have been labelled as sociocratic, eco‐sociocratic and technocratic. They differentiate significantly with regard to (1) values attached to ecological and cultural systems, (2) preferred pace and scale of projects, (3) envisaged project feasibility, (4) the range of feasible alternatives, as well as (5) the institutional background of their adherents. The latter separation, however, is not complete. This may stimulate the growth of insight in the normative background of the seemingly objective rationality of project design.  相似文献

A new method is presented that enables sensitive measurement of free concentrations of radiolabeled ligands. Additionally, protein binding of radiochemicals in complex matrixes can be determined with this new technique that combines negligible depletion solid-phase microextraction (nd-SPME) with liquid scintillation counting (LSC) as detection. [3H]Estradiol was taken as an example compound. Possible matrix effects of protein on fiber uptake kinetics were studied. No matrix effect was found, either by fouling of the fiber, or by changed uptake kinetics. The validity of the method was shown in the determination of the affinity constant (Ka) of estradiol for human serum albumin (HSA). The Ka was estimated at 8.9 x 10(4) M(-1), which corresponds well with literature values. This study shows that nd-SPME is suitable to study the free concentration and protein binding of [3H]estradiol. The method described in this paper combines the advantages of nd-SPME with the advantages of radiolabeled analytes, creating a timesaving, simple, and sensitive analytical tool that will be particularly useful in complex matrixes containing many potential interferences for chromatographic methods.  相似文献
