To establish the methods of demonstrating early fixation of metal implants to bone, one side of a Cobalt-Chromium (CoCr) based alloy implant surface was seeded with rabbit marrow mesenchymal cells and the other side was left unseeded. The mesenchymal cells were further cultured in the presence of ascorbic acid, β-glycerophosphate and dexamethasone, resulting in the appearance of osteoblasts and bone matrix on the implant surface. Thus, we succeeded in generating tissue-engineered bone on one side of the CoCr implant. The CoCr implants were then implanted in rabbit bone defects. Three weeks after the implantation, evaluations of mechanical test, undecalcified histological section and electron microscope analysis were performed. Histological and electron microscope images of the tissue engineered surface exhibited abundant new bone formation. However, newly formed bone tissue was difficult to detect on the side without cell seeding. In the mechanical test, the mean values of pull-out forces were 77.15 N and 44.94 N for the tissue-engineered and non-cell-seeded surfaces, respectively. Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of SiC ceramics at temperatures >1400°C were obtained using a laser ultrasonics method that included a Fabry-Pérot interferometer (LUFP). At temperatures <1000°C, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio measured using the LUFP method agreed well with those measured using standard contact methods, such as the resonance method and the ultrasonic pulse method. These results showed that the LUFP method is a powerful tool for measuring high-temperature elastic properties of advanced ceramics in a noncontact manner. 相似文献

The methods to estimate the surface tension of polymer solids using contact angles have been reviewed in the first part. They are classified into the following three groups depending on the theories or the equations applied: (1) the methods using the Young's equation alone, (2) the methods using the combined equation of Young and Good-Girifalco, and (3) the methods using the equations of work of adhesion. Some notes and comments are given for each method and results are compared with each other. The two-liquids method for rather high energy surface is also introduced. Next, some new possibilities to evaluate the surface tension of polymer solids are presented by our new contact angle theory in consideration of the friction between a liquid drop and a solid surface. The advancing and receding angles of contact (θ a and θ r ) are explained by the frictional tension γF and accordingly two kinds of the critical surface tension γC (γCa and γCr ) are given. This work has shown that one of the recommendable ways to evaluate γS is either the maximum γLV cos θa or the maximum γC using the advancing contact angle θa alone, and another way is the arithmetic or the harmonic mean of the γCa and γCr . A depiction to determine the γC such as ln(1 + cos θ0 ) vs. γLV with cos θ0 = (cos θ0 + cos θr )/2 has also been proposed. 相似文献

An ionic-polymer–metal-composite film shows electro-mechanical coupling. When the film is bent, electric current is induced. Measurement of the induced current indicates that the current depends on the speed of bending, but the total amount of the charge transferred across the film is independent of the speed, and depends only on the magnitude of the bending. The result indicates that in addition to previously proposed dynamical coupling effect, there is a static electro-mechanical coupling effect. A uniformly aggregated 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia nano-powder (3Y-TZP) was prepared using thermal hydrolysis and the ultrasonic deagglomeration technique. The possibility of nano-engineering of Pt–3Y-TZP composite aggregates was studied. The as-synthesized Pt nano-particles (∼2 nm) were impregnated into zirconia nano-aggregates (20–45 nm). The morphology manipulation technique allowed production of the composite zirconia-based aggregates in which a significant fraction of the Pt particles was embedded into the densified zirconia aggregates. Using the colloidal technique and low-temperature (1150°C) sintering, we prepared the Pt-zirconia (0.5–1.5 wt% of platinum) nano-composites with average 3Y-TZP grain sizes of 120 nm, and with the platinum grains size in the range of 20–60 nm. for thiophene hydrodesulfurization (HDS). When an Na-exchanged USY zeolite is used, the Co sulfide catalyst shows a muchhigher
HDS activity than a conventional Co—Mo/Al2 O3 catalyst. It is considered from XAFS and NO adsorption techniques that thehigh HDS activity of CoSx/USY-Na is due to an extremely high dispersion of Co sulfide clusters.

The effect of citric acid (CA) addition was studied on the HDS of thiophene over Co–Mo/(B)/Al2O3 catalysts. The catalysts were characterized by means of LRS, Mo K-edge EXAFS, NO adsorption capacity measurements, and UV–vis spectra. The catalysts were subjected to a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique using Co(CO)3NO as a precursor of Co in order to get deeper insights into the effect of citric acid addition. It was shown that the HDS activity was enhanced by the citric acid addition up to the CA/Mo mole ratio of around 1 and leveled off with further addition. The amount of Co anchored by the CVD was increased by the addition of citric acid, suggesting an increase in the dispersion of MoS2 particles on the catalyst by the simultaneous presence of Co, Mo and citric acid, in conformity with the increase in the NO adsorption capacity. In contrast to Co–Mo catalysts, the edge dispersion of MoS2 particles in Mo/B/Al2O3 was not affected by the addition of citric acid. The LRS, UV–vis spectra and Mo K-edge EXAFS showed that Co–CA and Mo–CA surface complexes are formed by the addition of citric acid. The Co–CA surface complex is more preferentially formed on CoMo/Al than on CoMo/B/Al, in agreement with a greater promoting effect of citric acid at a lower CA/Mo mole ratio for CoMo/Al than for CoMo/B/Al. 相似文献

Changes in the crystal structure of type 430 stainless steel and the oxides on its surface were studied in situ at 1373 K using a high-intensity synchrotron X-ray source provided by SPring-8 in Japan. The surface of the steel was initially covered with Cr2O3, which was then converted to FeCr2O4, and finally Fe3O4 and Fe2O3 formed on it. These results indicated that the reason for the breakaway oxidation in type 430 stainless steel is Cr depletion beneath Cr2O3 layer and the subsequent ionisation of Fe, not the simple mechanical failure of Cr2O3. 相似文献

To improve the cathodic performance of olivine-type LiMnPO4, we investigated the optimal annealing conditions for a composite of carbon with cation doping. Nanocrystalline and the cation-doped LiMn1−xMxPO4 (M = Ti, Mg, Zr and x = 0, 0.01, 0.05 and 0.10) was synthesized in aqueous solution using a planetary ball mill. The synthesis was performed at the fairly low temperature of 350 °C to limit particle size. The obtained samples except for the Zr doped one consisted of uniform and nano-sized particles. The performance of LiMnPO4 was much improved by an annealing treatment between 500 and 550 °C with carbon in an inert atmosphere. A small amount of metal-rich phosphide (Mn2P) was detected in the sample annealed at 900 °C. In addition, 1 at.% Mg doping for Fe enhanced the rate capability in our doped samples. The discharge capacity of LiMn0.99Mg0.01PO4/C was 146 mAh/g at 0.1 mA/cm2 and 125 mAh/g even at 2.0 mA/cm2. 相似文献

Nano-sized LiMn2O4 particles were prepared at 1023 K by electrospray pyrolysis in which they were directly deposited on a Pt substrate in gas phase. Cyclic voltammetry gave very sharp and symmetrical redox peaks at ca. 4.0 and 4.1 V vs. Li/Li+ owing to the insertion and extraction of lithium-ion at LiMn2O4. However, the redox peaks broadened and their peak separation in an electrode potential increased when aggregated nano-sized LiMn2O4 particles were used. In Nyquist plots, a semi-circle due to lithium-ion transfer resistance appeared at potentials above 3.90 V. The values of the lithium-ion transfer resistances were small for dispersed nano-sized LiMn2O4 particles. On the other hand, the lithium-ion transfer resistances increased and the Warburg impedance became obvious as the nano-sized LiMn2O4 particles aggregated. These results clearly indicate that the apparent rapid diffusion of lithium-ion can be attained using well-dispersed nano-sized particles of electroactive materials. 相似文献
