In order to realize a noninvasive blood glucose monitor, we monitored the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). In this paper, the clinical evaluations were performed on not only normal subjects but also diabetic subjects using a GCF-glucose monitor to determine blood glucose levels. Meal load tests were carried out and the time-course changes in blood glucose level and GCF glucose level were measured continuously. A positive correlation of more than 0.9 was found between blood glucose level and GCF glucose level, necessitating the calibration of individual correlations for every subject. Finally, the performance of the GCF-glucose monitor was evaluated using Error Grid Analysis. As the results, significant information for the glucose level decision was obtained not only for normal subjects, but also for diabetic subjects. 相似文献

In expanding expressway networks in Japan, various types of structures have been constructed, e.g., long span bridges and bridges with high piers. The expressway structures are well designed for the external dynamic forces, e.g., earthquakes and strong winds. However, for further safety promotion of the expressway networks, it is important to evaluate the drivers’ responses under strong dynamic disturbances. The present authors have investigated the moving stability of a vehicle under seismic motion based on both numerical simulation and virtual experiments using a driving simulator. Strong crosswind is considered as another factor that makes it difficult for drivers to control their vehicles. This study investigates the moving stability of a vehicle under strong crosswind based on numerical analyses and driving simulator experiments. To predict the future position of a moving vehicle including the reaction of a driver, the second-order predictable correction model is used in the numerical analyses. The results obtained from the numerical and experimental studies are compared and the validity of the driver model is discussed. It is expected that this research is helpful for the decision-making of expressway closure under strong wind and the design of wind barriers. 相似文献

The required high-frequency laser diode (LD) FM responses for a continuous phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK) heterodyne delay modulation system were investigated. The degradations due to insufficient high-frequency FM response are evaluated, considering the FSK waveform distortion, which gives undesired phase error at the demodulation circuit. From the phase error, bit error rate (BER) degradation is calculated. The calculated results indicate that the delay-time adjustment for the demodulation circuit is effective in minimizing the power penalty. The theoretical evaluation, including the demodulation circuit optimization, explains the experimental results fairly well. Using the same evaluation procedure, required high-frequency LD FM responses are derived. We have examined the preparation of transparent alumina film and CdS-doped alumina film prepared by the sol-gel process using aqueous sol starting from AlCl3. The resulting alumina films obtained by sol-gel transformation are transparent in the visible and near infrared up to 1000 °C. Homogeneous solution of alumina sol and Cd(CH3COO)2 was converted into gel film by dehydration. Then, on exposure to H2S stream at 250–600 °C, a CdS-doped film was obtained. It shows relatively sharp blue-shifted visible absorption that is attributed to size quantization effect. Large nonlinear absorption and refractive index have been obtained, because high concentration of CdS particles can be achieved by using this method. 相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study the referee systems of foreign scientific journals in the field of life sciences preferred by Japanese researchers. This survey has been conducted in response to the need of Japanese authors for current information about the refereeing systems of foreign life science journals. Based on questionnaire data obtained from 29 journal editors, this paper describes the refereeing systems. This survey showed that most Japanese researchers in the field of life sciences tried to submit their papers to prestigious foreign journals with a higher rejection rate. There was a high correlation between the rejection rate and the impact factor in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. 相似文献

A conversion efficiency of 12.65% was obtained at AM-1.5, 100 mW/cm2 for a single p-i-n junction amorphous-Si solar cell of 1.05 cm2, with a glass/SnO2/p-i-n/back-electrode structure. The solar cell had a short-circuit current of 19.13 mA/cm2, an open-circuit voltage of 0.885 V, and a fill factor of 74.7%. The reason why the efficiency of the produced solar cell was enhanced by hot-annealing treatment is considered to be due to the reduction of the minute leaks caused by the pinhole treatment and the reduction of the number of pinholes by reverse-bias annealing treatment. It is believed that because of the minute irregularities on the surface of SnO2, the diffuse light in the solar cell increased the effective optical length in the i layer. While epithelial structure and functions have been substantially investigated in many organs, the mesenchymal elements have received less attention. Compared with follicular epithelial cells, there are a few morphological studies on the stroma of human thyroid gland. In order to characterize more fully and assess its possible functions, 15 samples of surgical and autopsy human thyroid tissue were studied by classical histology, immunohistochemistry, transmission electron microscopy, electron microscopic immunohistochemistry, and scanning electron microscopy. In human thyroid gland, the interfollicular connective tissue surrounding the follicles contained collagenous matrix, fibroblasts, unmyelinated nerve fibers with Schwann cells, small blood vessels, lymphatics, lymphocytes, plasma cells, macrophages, and mast cells. At the ultrastructural level, gap junctions between the cytoplasmic processes of interfollicular fibroblasts constituted a novel observation. Immunohistochemistry using a monoclonal antibody against Cx43 confirmed the distribution of gap junctions between stromal fibroblastic cells, which was compatible with the ultrastructural findings. The frequent and intimate association of fibroblastic processes with nerve terminals was also shown. Interfollicular stromal fibroblasts also stained with CD34. The main constituent of the human thyroid stromal tissue was a CD34 positive reticular network involving fibroblasts, mononuclear cells and nerve terminals. It represents a highly ordered stroma, with potential structural and functional similarities to the stroma of bone marrow (Yamazaki and Allen, 1990). 相似文献

The effects of synthetic chemopreventive organoselenium compounds 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-phenylenebis(methylene)selenocyanate (o-, m-, and p-XSC, respectively), benzyl selenocyanate (BSC), and dibenzyl diselenide (DDS) and inorganic sodium selenite on the oxidation of xenobiotics and procarcinogens by human cytochrome P450 (P450 or CYP) enzymes were determined in vitro. Spectral studies showed that BSC and three XSC compounds (but not sodium selenite or DDS) induced type II difference spectrum when added to the suspension of liver microsomes isolated from beta-naphthoflavone-treated rats, with m-XSC being the most potent in inducing spectral interactions with P450 enzymes; m-XSC also produced a type II spectral change with human liver microsomes. o-, m-, and p-XSC inhibited 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylation catalyzed by human liver microsomes when added at concentrations below 1 microM levels, but BSC and DDS were less effective. All of these compounds inhibited the oxidation of model substrates for human P450s to varying extents. We studied the effects of these compounds on the activation of procarcinogens by recombinant human CYP1A1, 1A2, and 1B1 enzymes using Salmonella typhimurium NM2009 tester strain for the detection of DNA damage. The three XSCs were found to be very potent inhibitors of metabolic activation of 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole, 2-amino-3,5-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline, and 2-aminoanthracene, catalyzed by CYP1A1, 1A2, and 1B1, respectively. The potency of inhibition of m-XSC on CYP1B1-dependent activation of 2-aminoanthracene was compatible to those of alpha-naphthoflavone. The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) growth rate of a warm-rolled (WR) 316L stainless steel contoured double cantilever (CDCB) specimen was measured in high purity water at various temperatures and under various loading patterns. An alternating current potential drop (ACPD) technique was used to monitor the crack growth kinetics throughout the tests. The fracture surface exhibited typical intergranular SCC characteristics. Depending on the test conditions, three kinds of crack growth kinetics, i.e., increasing with time then becoming steady, being constant during the whole period, decreasing with time then becoming steady, were identified and are described. The steady state crack growth rate (CGR) values are used to quantify the effects of the loading pattern and the environmental temperature. A moderate increase in the crack growth rate was encountered by employing periods of unloading and reloading to form a trapezoidal loading pattern and the enhancement factor was found to depend on the holding time and the times for unloading and reloading. It was found that the crack growth is thermally activated; however, the apparent activation energy is not constant but seems to be greater at higher temperatures. Several types of temperature-dependent crack growth kinetics are proposed based on the rate-determining step for the crack growth. The present experimental results can be rationalized by considering multiple element processes such as aqueous mass transport and solid-state mass transport in the crack growth. The cracking mode, the temperature dependence of the crack growth rate, and the transient crack growth behavior for WR 316L SS after changing the environmental temperature are quite similar to those for a cold-worked(CW) 316L SS tested in the same environment, despite their different absolute crack growth rate values. The effect of yield strength on CGR is more significant at lower temperatures and the apparent activation energy for the crack growth rate seems to be lower in the material with a higher yield strength. Time-lag crack growth behavior was found at points during several test steps on WR 316L SS, for example, just after in situ pre-cracking and after increasing or decreasing the temperature, which is quite consistent with the results obtained with CW 316L SS. The importance of in situ monitoring of the crack growth for obtaining steady state crack growth rates is emphasized, especially for those steps for which a nonlinear crack growth period occurs after changing the test condition. 相似文献

This study was undertaken to establish a new technology, using pre-treatment with electrolyzed NaCl solutions and essential oil compounds, to extend the shelf-life of carp fillets. Samples of skinless carp fillets were treated with 100-fold (by weight) of electrolyzed NaCl solutions [cathodic solution, EW(−) and/or anodic solution, EW(+)] and 1% oil (0.5% carvacrol + 0.5% thymol) [1%(C + T)]. Then chemical [pH, volatile basic nitrogen, peroxide value, and thiobarbituric acid], microbiological (total viable count) and sensory analyses were used to evaluate the preservative effect of this new technology during storage at 5 and 25 °C. Our results from the chemical assays indicated that EW(−), followed by EW(+) and subsequently 1%(C + T) [EW(−)/EW(+)/1%(C + T)], significantly suppressed the lipid oxidation compared with other treatments. Data from sensory evaluation and microbiological assay showed that treatment with EW(−)/EW(+)/1%(C + T) extended the shelf-life of carp fillets to 16 and 1.3 days compared with 4 and 0.3 days for the control samples during storage at 5 and 25 °C, respectively. 相似文献
