This study aims to improve the unconfined compressive strength of soils using additives as well as by predicting the strength behavior of stabilized soils using two artificial-intelligence-based models. The soils used in this study are stabilized using various combinations of cement, lime, and rice husk ash. To predict the results of unconfined compressive strength tests conducted on soils, a comprehensive laboratory dataset comprising 137 soil specimens treated with different combinations of cement, lime, and rice husk ash is used. Two artificial-intelligence-based models including artificial neural networks and support vector machines are used comparatively to predict the strength characteristics of soils treated with cement, lime, and rice husk ash under different conditions. The suggested models predicted the unconfined compressive strength of soils accurately and can be introduced as reliable predictive models in geotechnical engineering. This study demonstrates the better performance of support vector machines in predicting the strength of the investigated soils compared with artificial neural networks. The type of kernel function used in support vector machine models contributed positively to the performance of the proposed models. Moreover, based on sensitivity analysis results, it is discovered that cement and lime contents impose more prominent effects on the unconfined compressive strength values of the investigated soils compared with the other parameters. 相似文献

This paper investigates the hydrodynamic behavior of gas–solid two-phase flow in the annular space of an air drilling well under different arrangements by using three-dimensional approach. Two-fluid model is used to solve the governing equations in the Eulerian–Eulerian framework. Effect of eccentricity and drill pipe rotation on the pressure drop, volume fraction and velocity profile are examined. The results are compared with available data in the literature and good agreement is found. The results show that the presence of solid particles in the annulus change the air velocity profile significantly and create two off-center peaks velocity close to the walls instead of one peak velocity in the middle. Eccentricity of drill pipe makes more accumulation of the cuttings in the smaller space of the annulus. Increasing the eccentricity increases pressure drop due to impact of particles with annulus wall and also particles collision with each other. Rotation of the drill pipe shifts maximum air velocity location toward smaller space of the annulus which results more uniform cutting distributions in the annulus and improvement in their transportations. Pressure drop in the annulus increases as eccentricity and rotation of drill pipe increase. 相似文献

The practical difficulty of parenteral application of fish vaccines against devastating fish diseases diverted the interest toward oral vaccination. Search for effective methods to enhance the oral uptake of viral and bacterial vaccines is continuing. The current research focus on a new role of mucosal fish vaccine adjuvants inducing the antigen uptake by enhancing vascularity or increasing intestinal permeability. Some inflammatory substances cause reversible pathology to the intestinal epithelium, which could be employed for the transepithelial passage of vaccine particles. The natural inflammatory substances used were capsaicin, piperine, and okadaic acid as 1 mg, 2 mg, and 1 μg/fish, respectively. Two inactivated vaccines were used as antigens to test the effect of these inflammatory substances in two different fish hosts. Tested vaccines were inactivated redspotted grouper nervous necrosis virus vaccine in sevenband grouper (Epinephelus septemfasciatus) and inactivated Edwardsiella tarda vaccine in red sea bream (Pagrus major) fish models. The inflammatory substances and each vaccine were anally intubated to fish. Capsaicin proved to be effectively aiding the transepithelial passage of vaccine particles more than piperine, while okadaic acid had no detectable effect. 相似文献

Lu3+/Yb3+ and Lu3+/Er3+ co-doped Sb2Se3 nanomaterials were synthesized by co-reduction method in hydrothermal condition. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns indicate that the LnxLn′xSb2−2xSe3 Ln: Lu3+/Yb3+ and Lu3+/Er3+ crystals (x = 0.00 − 0.04) are isostructural with Sb2Se3. The cell parameters were increased for compounds upon increasing the dopant content (x). Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy images show that co-doping of Lu3+/Yb3+ ions in the lattice of Sb2Se3 produces nanorods, while that in Lu3+/Er3+ produces nanoparticles, respectively. The electrical conductivity of co-doped Sb2Se3 is higher than that of the pure Sb2Se3 and increases with temperature. By increasing the concentration of Ln3+ions, the absorption spectrum of Sb2Se3 shows red shifts and some intensity changes. In addition to the characteristic red emission peaks of Sb2Se3, emission spectra of co-doped materials show other emission bands originating from f-f transitions of the Yb3+ ions. 相似文献

The reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) seeks for the best compromise between cost and safety, by considering system
uncertainties. In order to overcome computational difficulties, many formulations have been recently developed, leading to
confusion about what method should be selected for a given application, due to the lack of full-scale comparative studies.
In this context, the present paper aims at giving an overview of various RBDO approaches which are tested on a benchmark constituted
of four examples using mathematical and finite element models, with different levels of difficulties. The study is focused
on the three main approaches, namely the two-level approach, the single loop approach and the decoupled approach; for each category, two RBDO formulations are discussed, implemented and tested for numerical examples. The benchmark study
allows us to give comprehensive overview of various approaches, to give clear ideas about their capabilities and limitations,

The dissolution of kaolinite clay in hydrochloric acid solutions has been carried out in the presence of fluoride ions. Leaching in the presence of fluoride ions activates the clay for leaching, making higher extractions possible at lower roasting and leaching temperatures. The activation energy for the leaching of clay calcined at 540°C is decreased from 71 kJ/mol to 23 kJ/mol in the presence of fluoride ions. Dissolution in the presence of fluoride appears to fit a second-order reaction mechanism. 相似文献

Abstract The amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in indoor air, usually called TVOC (total volatile organic compounds), has been measured using different definitions and techniques which yield different results. This report recommends a definition of TVOC referring to a specified range of VOCs and it proposes a method for the measurement of this TVOC entity. Within the specified range, the measured concentrations of identified VOCs (including 64 target compounds) are summed up, concentrations of non-identified compounds in toluene equivalents are added and, together with the identified VOCs, they give the TVOC value. The report reviews the TVOC concept with respect to its usefulness for exposure assessment and control and for the prediction of health or comfort effects. Although the report concludes that at present it is not possible to use TVOC as an effect predictor, it affirms the usefulness of TVOC for characterizing indoor pollution and for improving source control as required from the points of view of health, comfort, energy efficiency and sustainability. 相似文献

Beef tallow and cottonseed oil were mixed with a pure butterfat in the ratios of 2%, 4% and 6% to obtain admixtures of beef
tallow with butterfat and cottonseed oil with butterfat. The hydrolysis of individual triglycerides was carried out using
the lipase to obtain 2-monoglycerides. The results indicated that butterfat had a higher percentage of C14:0 and C16:0 acids
than found in the triglycerides and 2-monoglycerides of beef tallow and cottonseed oil.
Beef tallow contained a higher proportion of C18:0 and C18:1 acids than butterfat and cottonseed oil triglycerides or 2-monoglycerides.
Cottonseed oil had a higher percentage of C18:2 acid located in triglyceride or 2-monoglyceride than found in butterfat or
beef tallow triglycerides and 2-monoglycerides.
The analysis of the samples of butterfat containing 2%, 4% and 6% beef tallow revealed that the addition of beef tallow to
butterfat affected the fatty acid composition of butterfat triglycerides and 2-monoglycerides with C18:0 and C18:1 acids;
the effect was increased with increasing percentages of beef tallow.
The addition of cottonseed oil to butterfat in the ratios of 2%, 4% and 6% affected the fatty acid composition of butterfat
triglycerides and 2-monoglycerides. It was found that both C18:1 and C18:2 increased as the added cottonseed oil percentages
