There has been significant work on establishing relationships between machining performance and the cutting parameters for various work materials. Recent trends in machining research show that major efforts are being made to understand the impact of various cooling/lubrication methods on machining performance and surface integrity characteristics, all aimed at improving process and product performance. This study presents the experimental results of cryogenic machining of Inconel 718, a high-temperature aerospace alloy, and comparison of its performance in dry and minimum quantity lubrication machining. Experimental data on force components, progressive tool wear parameters such as flank wear, notch wear, crater wear, cutting temperature, chip morphology, and surface roughness/topography of machined samples are presented. New findings show that cryogenic machining is a promising research direction for machining of high-temperature aerospace alloy, Inconel 718, as it offers improved machining performance in terms of reduced tool wear, temperature, and improved surface quality. It was also found that the number of nozzles in cryogenic machining plays a vital role in controlling cutting forces and power consumption in cryogenic machining of Inconel 718.  相似文献

This paper undertakes to explore the gerontological and social science literature for the purpose of highlighting that while ageing is a common phenomenon across all world societies it nevertheless remains a unique personal experience. Drawing upon the metaphorical construct of the life journey, the authors use the cultural context of ageing to illustrate how the life-path for each individual, whether long or short, is necessarily unpredictable and involves a dynamic interaction between history and biography within a particular society and cultural framework. The authors challenge prospective readers to use their sociological imagination as proffered by the renowned sociologist C.W. Mills in the interest of moving beyond the biological dimension in order to see more clearly that ??ageing into old age?? is in essence a unique personal life story. The life story of each individual is seen to represent a compilation of ongoing levels of compliance and /or tension between the individual??s subjective world and external forces the consequence of the individual being a thinking, willing and feeling person, an existential entity with potential for meaning making, self organization and adaptive responses to changing life circumstances. Notwithstanding the diverse cultural, racial and ethnic differences between people worldwide the ageing experience is shown to be a phenomenon displaying cross-cultural variability warranting further ongoing anthropological research. An examination of the many pathways to ageing utilizing a series of interactive factors helps to explain the existence of advantages and disadvantages leading to variations in availability and access to ??life chances?? resulting in many people experiencing unacceptable levels of ill-health, poverty, racism, ageism, inequality and widespread levels of social injustice and abuse of human rights.  相似文献

We have demonstrated a microfabricated single-molecule DNA sizing device. This device does not depend on mobility to measure molecule size, is 100 times faster than pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, and has a resolution that improves with increasing DNA length. It also requires a million times less sample than pulsed-field gel electrophoresis and has comparable resolution for large molecules. Here we describe the fabrication and use of the single-molecule DNA sizing device for sizing and sorting DNA restriction digests and ladders spanning 2-200 kbp.  相似文献

In this study using poly(vinylalcohol) (PVOH) membranes cross-linked with tartaric acid (Tac) desorption experiments were performed for selected concentrations of binary ethyl acetate (EtAc)-water mixture at temperatures of 30°, 40°, and 50°C to determine sorption of components. Sorption values measured were compared with those estimated by the Flory-Huggins approach. Additionally, desorption results were compared with pervaporation results of another study in terms of solution-diffusion theory, and the effect of thermodynamic interactions on selective transport of the binary mixture and membrane system was investigated. The results obtained show that selective transport of EtAc-water mixture was influenced by increasing temperature and water content in the feed. It is shown that preferential sorption is more effective for pervaporation selectivity than diffusion selectivity.  相似文献

Nimonic 80A is a nickel-chrome superalloy, commonly used due to its high resistance against creep, oxidation, and temperature corrosion. This paper presents the material constitutive models of Nimonic 80A superalloy. Johnson–Cook (JC) and modified JC model is preferred among the different material constitutive equations (Zerill Armstrong, Bodner Partom, Arrhenius type) due to its accuracy in the literature. Three different types of compression tests were applied to determine the equation parameters. Firstly, quasi-static tests were performed at room temperature. These tests were conducted at 10?3, 10?2, and 10?1 s?1 strain rates. Secondly, compression tests were performed at room temperature at high strain rates (370–954 s?1) using the Split-Hopkinson pressure bar. Finally, compression tests were performed at a temperature level from 24 to 200 °C at the reference strain rate (10?3 s?1). Johnson–Cook and modified JC model parameters of Nimonic 80A were determined with the data obtained from these tests, and they were finally verified statistically.  相似文献

High-performance green buildings require close integration of building systems with a special focus on energy, daylighting, and material analysis during their design processes. Design process modeling and use of visualization tools can facilitate better communication and collaboration between team members; hence better integration in the design process. This paper presents a case study of the integrated design process of an Early Childhood Learning Center as performed by a team of university students and faculty. A process modeling approach of key decisions, required consultants, and virtual prototypes of the building was used during the design development stages of the case study. This case illustrates the use of process modeling and visualization tools to provide an accurate building information system for integrated teams. Through this experience, process modeling and visualization tools were found to be useful mechanisms to achieve high performance design goals and minimize design process waste.  相似文献

Answering queries in disjunctive logic programming requires the use of ancestry-resolution. The resulting complication makes it difficult to implement a Prolog-type query answering procedure for disjunctive logic programs. However, SLO-resolution provides a mechanism which is similar to SLD-resolution and hence offers a solution to this problem. The Warren Abstract Machine has been a very effective model for implementing Prolog. In this paper, we extend the WAM model of Prolog and adapt it for DISLOG — a language for disjunctive logic programming. We describe the extensions and additional instructions needed to make WAM viable for modeling and executing DISLOG. The extension is made in such a way that the original architecture is not disturbed and a Prolog program will execute as efficiently as it does in the original WAM.This work was done while the author was at the University of Kentucky.  相似文献

Summary Acrylonitrile was polymerized by an insertion process on being added to solutions containing the adduct of the reaction of tetrakis(dimethylamino) titanium (T4) and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN).
