An automated Thixo‐Forging Plant for Steel Parts

The scope of the article is to describe the automated production of a thixoformed steel part. The production plant was set up within a prototype initiative at the Institute of Metal Forming in cooperation with the Institute of Automatic Control of RWTH Aachen University and industrial partners. Preliminary experiments showed that the quality of the formed parts varied to a great extent due to changing production conditions since the handling of the billet was carried out manually. To eliminate the possible disturbances introduced by the manual handling of the billet, an automation concept has been elaborated in order to guarantee a defined production environment. An industrial robot (KUKA) fulfils the handling tasks like the feeding of the induction coil with the feedstock material and the placing of the heated billet into the hydraulic press. The removal of the formed part from the press is realised by a simple mechanical device in order to be able to use only one gripper. The design of the gripper ensures a minimal heat loss during handling. The induction coil, the gripper system and the cavity are flooded with inert gas in order to prevent scaling. The sequence control for the production of a part is realised on the controller of the robot which provides sufficient PLC functionality and can be easily equipped with the required I/O components to trigger the different automation components.     

A New Quality Improving Scheme for VQ Decompressed Images Based on DWT

The better compression rate can be achieved by the traditional vector quantization (VQ) method, and the quality of the recovered image can also be accepted. But the decompressed image quality can not be promoted efficiently, so how to balance the image compression rate and image recovering quality is an important issue. In this paper, an image is transformed by discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to generate its DWT transformed image which can be compressed by the VQ method further. Besides, we compute the values between the DWT transformed image and decompressed DWT transformed image as the difference matrix which is the adjustable basis of the decompressed image quality. By controlling the deviation of the difference matrix, there can be nearly lossless compression for the VQ method. Experimental results show that when the number of compressed bits by our method is equal to the number of those bits compressed by the VQ method, the quality of our recovered image is better. Moreover, the proposed method has more compression capability comparing with the VQ scheme.     

Accommodation of China’s Industrial Heritage in Urban Conservation Practices (Ⅱ)

In recent years, the conservation of industrial heritage in China has gained increasing attention within the broader context of urban conservation practices. For both policy-makers and scholars, accommodating this industrial heritage will emerge as a pertinent issue for consideration as a growing number of industrial architectural legacies dating from the Republican and Maoist eras come under (re)development pressures. This paper thus traces the development of industrial heritage conservation practices in China and discusses several dilemmas intrinsic to this type of conservation, including issues of authenticity, representativeness, and distinction. Based on comparative case studies from China and other international precedents, this paper also seeks to illustrate the different approaches that could be pursued while still attaining a balance between competing interests and claims.     

Application Aware Topology Generation for Surface Wave Networks-on-Chip

The networks-on-chip （NoC） communication has an increasingly larger impact on the system power consumption and performance. Emerging technologies, like surface wave, are believed to have lower transmission latency and power consumption over the conventional wireless NoC. Therefore, this paper studies how to optimize the network performance and power consumption by giving the packet-switching fabric and traffic pattern of each application. Compared with the conventional method of wire-linked, which adds wireless transceivers by using the genetic algorithm （GA）, the proposed maximal declining sorting algorithm （MDSA） can effectively reduce time consumption by as much as 20.4% to 35.6%. We also evaluate the power consumption and configuration time to prove the effective of the proposed algorithm.     

Oscillation propagation features of the atmosphere around the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau during the spring season of typical strong and weak monsoon years

The interaction between the low-frequency atmospheric oscillation(Madden-Julian Oscillation,MJO) and the diabatic heating over the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau(QXP) from March to June is analyzed.The results show that there are respectively two and one wave trains around the QXP during the onset of the South China Sea monsoon in strong and weak monsoon years.The locations and strength of the wave train propagation differ between the strong and weak monsoon years.Because diabatic heating of the QXP prevents the lo...

The European Landscape Convention

Adopted in Florence (Italy) on 20 October 2000, the European Landscape Convention is aimed at promoting the protection, management and planning of European landscapes and organising European cooperation on landscape issues. It is the first international treaty to be exclusively concerned with all dimensions of European landscape. It applies to the entire territory of the Parties and relates to natural, urban and peri-urban areas, whether on land, water or sea. It therefore concerns not just remarkable landscapes but also ordinary everyday landscapes and blighted areas. The Convention represents an important contribution to the implementation of the objectives of the Council of Europe: these seek to protect Europeans' quality of life and well-being, taking into account landscape, cultural and natural values. The member states of the Council of Europe signatory to the European Landscape Convention declared their concern to achieve sustainable development based on a balanced and harmonious relationship between social needs, economic activity and the environment. The cultural dimension is also of fundamental importance.

小麦中呕吐毒素降解的研究进展

呕吐毒素,又名脱氧雪腐镰刀菌烯醇(DON),是镰刀菌产生的一种真菌毒素,广泛存在于世界各地的谷物,特别是小麦中。不但给全球粮食产业造成巨大经济损失,也给人类健康带来潜在威胁,因此对小麦中的DON进行降解显得非常重要和迫切。本文对清除小麦中脱氧雪腐镰刀菌烯醇的物理、化学和生物方法进行了综述,为有效控制其水平提供了思路。
