Characterization of New Volatile Compounds in the Neutral Fraction of Roasted Beef Flavor

Volatile flavor compounds were isolated from 190 lb of roasted eye round beef. The neutral fraction of the flavor isolate was subjected to extensive gas chromatographic fractionation and the pure fractions obtained were identified by GC-mass spectrometry. A total of 67 compounds were reported to be new constituents in beef flavor.

This paper will present a class of minimum redundancy multiple burst-error-correcting cyclic codes. Although the rate of transmission is poor, it has a very easy decoding algorithm.     

A note on constant weight cyclic codes

In this paper we show that the dual code of a g-ary Hamming single error-correcting code is a constant weight cyclic code with weight q(m-1). We give, as a consequence, a very simple alternative derivation of the weight enumerator formula for the q-ary Hamming single error-correcting code. We show also that a binary cyclic equidistant code can be derived from this dual code

A practical fuzzy controllers scheme of overhead crane

This paper presents fuzzy-based design for the control of overhead crane.Instead of analyzing the complex nonlinear crane system,the proposed approach uses simple but effective way to control the crane.There are twin fuzzy controllers which deal with the feedback information,the position of trolley crane and the swing angle of load,to suppress the sway and accelerate the speed when the crane transports the heavy load.This approach simplifies the designing procedure of crane controller;besides,the twin controller method reduces the rule number when fulfilling the fuzzy system.Finally,experimental results through the crane model demonstrate the effectiveness of the scheme.     

Effects of Leachate Accumulation During Hydration in a Thermalscrew Blancher on the Water Absorption and Cooked Texture of Navy Beans

Blanch water obtained from a commercial canner was evaluated for leachates that accumulated in a thermalscrew blancher during the rehydration of dried navy beans. These leachates were found to consist of acids, nitrogenous compounds, carbohydrates, and ash. factorial design experiment and a central composite design experiment were conducted to isolate and quantitate the effects of these factors on the water absorption and final texture of navy beans that have been rehydrated in a thermoscrew blancher. Factors of major importance in the soaking water were found to be viscosity, divalent ion concentration, and temperature. Both water absorption and texture of cooked beans responded linearly to these factors.     

Task assignment in distributed computing systems

The problem is addressed of assigning a task with a precedence constraint to a distributed computing system. Task turnaround time with regard to communication overhead and idle time is adopted to measure the performance of task assignment. The assignment of the module is determined as is the sequence of message transmission to balance the processor load and reduce communication overhead. The search for the optimal task assignment with a precedence constraint is known to be NP-complete (Garey et al. 1979) in the strong sense. A heuristic algorithm with polynomial time complexity is then proposed in order to solve the task-assignment problem effectively. Experimental results show that the proposed approach produces a near-optimal or even optimal task assignment.     

Dynamic interval systems analysis and design

In this paper, new sufficient conditions for the stability of interval matrices are presented. Subsequently, design procedures are provided to synthesize robust static feedback controllers for dynamic interval systems. Both optimal control and pole region assignment design techniques are applied to make the closed-loop system achieve the requirements in system performance and stability robustness. Examples given confirm the availability of the proposed design approaches.
