The software code SKYEAD.pack for retrieval of aerosol size distribution and optical thickness from data of direct and diffuse solar radiation is described; measurements are carried out with sky radiometers in the wavelength range 0.369-1.048 μm. The treatment of the radiative transfer problem concerning the optical quantities is mainly based on the IMS (improved multiple and single scattering) method, which uses the delta-M approximation for the truncation of the aerosol phase function and corrects the solution for the first- and second-order scattering. Both linear and nonlinear inversion methods can be used for retrieving the size distribution. Improved calibration methods for both direct and diffuse radiation, the data-analysis procedure, the results from the proposed code, and several connected problems are discussed. The results can be summarized as follows: (a) the SKYRAD.pack code can retrieve the columnar aerosol features with accuracy and efficiency in several environmental situations, provided the input parameters are correctly given; (b) when data of both direct and diffuse solar radiation are used, the detectable radius interval for aerosol particles is approximately from 0.03 to 10 μm; (c) besides the retrieval of the aerosol features, the data-analysis procedure also permits the determination of average values for three input parameters (real and imaginary aerosol refractive index, ground albedo) from the optical data; (d) absolute calibrations for the sky radiometer are not needed, and calibrations for direct and diffuse radiation can be carried out with field data; (e) the nonlinear inversion gives satisfactory results in a larger radius interval, without the unrealistic humps that occur with the linear inversion, but the results strongly depend on the first-guess spectrum; (f) aerosol features retrieved from simulated data showed a better agreement with the given data for the linear inversion than for the nonlinear inversion.  相似文献

Critical current densities of the superconducting Y-Ba-Cu-O (YBCO) films have been observed to decrease with the increase of power of microwave radiation. Presence of Josephson type of junctions in the microbridges has been established from the microwave irradiation and magnetic field studies. BCS energy gap parameter (2/kT c ) has been calculated from thedI/dV characteristics and found to be 3.7 at 13 K.  相似文献

Localization of sound sources by human listeners has been widely studied and theories and various models of the localization and hearing mechanism have been constructed. In the classical "duplex" theory, sound localization in azimuth is explained by interaural time or equivalently, phase differences at low frequencies, and by interaural amplitude differences at higher frequencies. Head related transfer functions (HRTF's) present a linear system approach to modeling localization by representing the direction-dependent transformation the sound undergoes at each ear. Localization in elevation is explained by directional differences in the HRTF's, which also explains monaural localization. We conjecture that the HRTF's evolved during the course of nature (due to the evolution of the shape and structure of the ear etc.) are optimal with respect to several physically realizable criteria. In this paper, we investigate the problem of defining the design constraints which when optimized yield a set of HRTF's for hearing and monaural vertical localization in an attempt to better understand, and if possible, duplicate nature's design. We pursue an engineer's design perspective and formulate a constrained optimization problem, where the desired set of HRTF's is optimized according to a cost function based on several criteria for localization, hearing and smoothness, and also by imposing physically realizable constraints on the HRTF's such as nonnegativity, energy etc. The value of the cost function for a candidate set of HRTF's is an indication of the similarity of that set of HRTF's with respect to the ideal solution (measured HRTF data). The final optimization results we present are similar to the actual HRTF's measured in human subjects, and the associated cost function values are found to be almost equal. This points to the fact that the optimization criteria defined are quite relevant. The significant outcome of this research is the identification of a relevant set of mathematical criteria that could be optimized in the human auditory system to facilitate good hearing and localization. These criteria along with the associated constraints represent the desirable characteristics of the HRTF's in an HRTF-based localization system, and could lead to a better understanding and modeling of the auditory system.  相似文献

We introduce a high order parameter-robust numerical method to solve a Dirichlet problem for one-dimensional time dependent singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion equation. A small parameter ε is multiplied with the second order spatial derivative in the equation. The parabolic boundary layers appear in the solution of the problem as the perturbation parameter ε tends to zero. To obtain the approximate solution of the problem we construct a numerical method by combining the Crank–Nicolson method on an uniform mesh in time direction, together with a hybrid scheme which is a suitable combination of a fourth order compact difference scheme and the standard central difference scheme on a generalized Shishkin mesh in spatial direction. We prove that the resulting method is parameter-robust or ε-uniform in the sense that its numerical solution converges to the exact solution uniformly well with respect to the singular perturbation parameter ε. More specifically, we prove that the numerical method is uniformly convergent of second order in time and almost fourth order in spatial variable, if the discretization parameters satisfy a non-restrictive relation. Numerical experiments are presented to validate the theoretical results and also indicate that the relation between the discretization parameters is not necessary in practice.  相似文献

In this paper, we present general formulae for the mask of (2b + 4)-point n-ary approximating as well as interpolating subdivision schemes for any integers ${b\,\geqslant\,0}$ and ${n\,\geqslant\,2}$ . These formulae corresponding to the mask not only generalize and unify several well-known schemes but also provide the mask of higher arity schemes. Moreover, the 4-point and 6-point a-ary schemes introduced by Lian [Appl Appl Math Int J 3(1):18–29, 2008] are special cases of our general formulae.  相似文献

A delay‐dependent criterion for the global asymptotic stability of a class of uncertain discrete‐time state‐delayed systems using various combinations of quantization and overflow nonlinearities is presented. The proposed criterion is in the form of a linear matrix inequality and, hence, computationally tractable. A numerical example highlighting the usefulness of the proposed criterion is given. This paper proposes two stage speech emotion recognition approach using speaking rate. The emotions considered in this study are anger, disgust, fear, happy, neutral, sadness, sarcastic and surprise. At the first stage, based on speaking rate, eight emotions are categorized into 3 broad groups namely active (fast), normal and passive (slow). In the second stage, these 3 broad groups are further classified into individual emotions using vocal tract characteristics. Gaussian mixture models (GMM) are used for developing the emotion models. Emotion classification performance at broader level, based on speaking rate is found to be around 99% for speaker and text dependent cases. Performance of overall emotion classification is observed to be improved using the proposed two stage approach. Along with spectral features, the formant features are explored in the second stage, to achieve robust emotion recognition performance in case of speaker, gender and text independent cases.  相似文献

This paper proposes hybrid classification models and preprocessing methods for enhancing the consonant-vowel (CV) recognition in the presence of background noise. Background Noise is one of the major degradation in real-time environments which strongly effects the performance of speech recognition system. In this work, combined temporal and spectral processing (TSP) methods are explored for preprocessing to improve CV recognition performance. Proposed CV recognition method is carried out in two levels to reduce the similarity among large number of CV classes. In the first level vowel category of CV unit will be recognized, and in the second level consonant category will be recognized. At each level complementary evidences from hybrid models consisting of support vector machine (SVM) and hidden Markov models (HMM) are combined for enhancing the recognition performance. Performance of the proposed CV recognition system is evaluated on Telugu broadcast database for white and vehicle noise. The proposed preprocessing methods and hybrid classification models have improved the recognition performance compared to existed methods.  相似文献

One critical question suggested by Web 2.0 is as follows: When is it better to leverage the knowledge of other users vs. rely on the product characteristic-based metrics for online product recommenders? Three recent and notable changes of recommender systems have been as follows: (1) a shift from characteristic-based recommendation algorithms to social-based recommendation algorithms; (2) an increase in the number of dimensions on which algorithms are based; and (3) availability of products that cannot be examined for quality before purchase. The combination of these elements is affecting users’ perceptions and attitudes regarding recommender systems and the products recommended by them, but the psychological effects of these trends remain unexplored. The current study empirically examines the effects of these elements, using a 2 (recommendation approach: content-based vs. collaborative-based, within)×2 (dimensions used to generate recommendations: 6 vs. 30, between)×2 (product type: experience products (fragrances) vs. search products (rugs), between) Web-based study (N=80). Participants were told that they would use two recommender systems distinguished by recommendation approach (in fact, the recommendations were identical). There were no substantive main effects, but all three variables exhibited two-way interactions, indicating that design strategies must be grounded in a multi-dimensional understanding of these variables. The implications of this research for the psychology and design of recommender systems are presented.  相似文献
