Self-organized TiO(2) nanotube (NT) arrays were produced by anodization in ethylene glycol (EG) electrolytes containing 1-n-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroborate (BMI.BF(4)) ionic liquid and water. The morphology of the as-formed NTs was considerably affected by changing the anodization time, voltage, and water and ionic liquid electrolyte concentrations. In general, a nanoporous layer was formed on the top surface of the TiO(2) NTs, except for anodization at 100 V with 1 vol % of BMI.BF(4), where the NT's mouth was revealed. The length and bottom diameter of the NTs as well as the pore diameter of the top layer showed a linear relationship with increased anodization voltage. These TiO(2) NTs were tested as photocatalysts for methyl orange photodegradation and hydrogen evolution from water/methanol solutions by UV light irradiation. The results show that the TiO(2) NTs obtained by anodization in EG/H(2)O/BMI.BF(4) electrolytes are active and efficient for both applications. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Bioactive peptides might be released from precursor proteins through enzymatic hydrolysis. These molecules could be potentially employed in health and food products. In this investigation, ovine milk caseinate hydrolysates obtained with a novel microbial protease derived from Bacillus sp. P7 were evaluated for antioxidant, antimicrobial, and angiotensin I‐converting enzyme (ACE)‐inhibitory activities. RESULTS: Antioxidant activity measured by the 2,2′‐azino‐bis‐(3‐ethylbenzothiazoline)‐6‐sulfonic acid method increased with hydrolysis time up to 2 h, remaining stable for up to 4 h. Hydrolysates showed low 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl radical‐scavenging abilities, with higher activity (31%) reached after 1 h of hydrolysis. Fe2+‐chelating ability was maximum for 0.5 h hydrolysates (83.3%), decreasing thereafter; and the higher reducing power was observed after 1 h of hydrolysis. ACE‐inhibitory activity was observed to increase up to 2 h of hydrolysis (94% of inhibition), declining afterwards. 3 h hydrolysates were shown to inhibit the growth of Bacillus cereus, Corynebacterium fimi, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Penicillium expansum. CONCLUSION: Ovine caseinate hydrolyzed with Bacillus sp. P7 protease presented antioxidant, antihypertensive, and antimicrobial activities. The activity of pectic enzymes was measured in culture filtrates of four selected fungal strains. Pectin lyase (PL) activity was produced by all fungi, but pectinesterase activity was not detected in culture filtrates of the strain Penicillium expansum F16. The use of crude enzymes resulted in good clarification of apple juice as evaluated by an increase in transmittance at 660 nm. PL activities were partially purified by dye-affinity chromatography on Blue Sepharose. The enzyme was bound to the column and eluted in a single peak, free of PE activity, and not coinciding with the major amount of protein. Apple, grape, and passion fruit juices were effectively clarified by these partially purified enzymes. Methanol content was determined by gas-liquid chromatography, being undetectable in the clarified juices. These pectic enzymes demonstrate potential for use in fruit juice processing. 相似文献

The purpose of this paper was to present the results of a life cycle cost analysis concerning the purchase and operation of
a more efficient popular refrigerator model compared with a baseline design in Brazil. The summarized results may be useful
for organizations working to promote sustainable energy development. This paper specifically focuses on refrigerators, since
their energy consumption is predicted to constitute over 30% of the total average domestic electricity bill in Brazilian households.
If all new Brazilian refrigerators had an energy efficiency at the level consistent with the least life cycle cost of ownership,
it would result in an annual savings of 2.8 billion dollars (US$) in electricity bills, 45 TWh of electricity demand, and
18 Mt of CO2 emissions, with a respective payback period of 7 years which is less than half the average estimated lifetime of a refrigerator.
The analysis was conducted following the guidelines of similar analyses available from the US Department of Energy and the
Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program.

The world production of dates has more than doubled over the last two decades. Presently, the industrial sorting of dates is a difficult operation, affected by a high level of losses. As a consequence, the objective of this article is to study the variety discrimination capabilities of Fourier Transform‐Near Infrared (FT‐NIR) reflectance spectroscopy for post‐harvest sorting purposes. The same methodology was tested on six commercial date varieties named Estamaran, Kabkab, Mazafati, Piarom, Deglet nour and Zahedi. For each cultivar, 100 fruits were analysed using the FT‐NIR spectrometer, subsequently characterised by destructive measurements. A multivariate analysis of the FT‐NIR spectra appears a feasible tool for cultivar discrimination and even to estimate the soluble solid content (SSC) and dry matter (DM) of dates at their optimal harvesting conditions. FT‐NIR, as a non‐destructive techniques, could be a suitable way for on‐line screening of different dates varieties. 相似文献

In the present work, the influence of pH and sodium chloride concentration on thermal stability of antimicrobial peptide P34 was evaluated under different time–temperature conditions by a 22 factorial design experiment. At sterilization conditions (121 °C for 20 min), maximum retention (36%) was obtained at pH between 5.5 and 8.5 and sodium chloride concentration between 0.4 and 0.75 mol/l. For boiling conditions (100 °C for 20 min), antimicrobial activity was about 100% combining pH between 6.0 and 8.0 and salt concentration in the range of 0.65 to 1 mol/l. At low temperature pasteurization conditions (30 min at 65 °C), antimicrobial activity was not affected within the pH range from 5.0 to 8.0. For the three time–temperature conditions tested, the antimicrobial activity was minimal at more acidic or alkaline pH. Sodium chloride concentration of 0.65 mol/l increased thermostability of the peptide P34. Combination of sodium chloride and slight alkaline pH may increase the stability of peptide P34, which is essential to the proper utilization of bacteriocins in food industry. 相似文献

We propose a new hub location model defined by the minimization of costs. The main contribution of this work is to permit the analysis of a hub-and-spoke network operated under “decentralized management”. In this type of network, various transport companies act independently, and each makes its route choices according to its own criteria, which can include cost, time, frequency, security and other factors, including subjective ones. Therefore, due to the diversity of the various companies’ criteria, one can expect that between each origin–destination pair, a fraction of the flow will be carried through hubs and a fraction will be carried by the direct route. to resolve this problem, it becomes necessary to determine the probability that any network user will choose the hub route for each trip to be made (or for each load to be carried). We present an integer programming formulation, subject the new model to experiments with an intermodal general cargo network in Brazil and address questions regarding the solution of the problem in practice. 相似文献

This paper presents an investigation of nonplanar tool-workpiece interactions in free-form milling using a ball-end cutting tool, a technique that is widely applied in the manufacturing of dies and molds. The influence of the cutting speed on the cutting forces, surface quality of the workpiece, and chip formation was evaluated by considering the specific alterations of the contact between tool-surface along the cutting time. A trigonometric equation was developed for identifying the tool-workpiece contact along the toolpath and the point where the tool tip leaves the contact with the workpiece. The experimental validation was carried out in a machining center using a carbide ball-end cutting tool and a workpiece of AISI P20 steel. The experimental results demonstrated the negative effect of the engagement of the tool tip into the cut on machining performance. The length of this engagement depends on the tool and workpiece curvature radii and stock material. When the tool tip center is in the cut region, the material is removed by shearing together with plastic deformation. Such conditions increase the cutting force and surface roughness and lead to an unstable machining process, what was also confirmed by the chips collected. 相似文献

Zein is a biodegradable and biocompatible material extracted from renewable resources; it comprises almost 80% of the whole protein content in corn. This review highlights and describes some zein and zein-based materials, focusing on biomedical applications. It was demonstrated in this review that the biodegradation and biocompatibility of zein are key parameters for its uses in the food-packing, biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. Furthermore, it was pointed out that the presence of hydrophilic-hydrophobic groups in zein chains is a very important aspect for obtaining material with different hydrophobicities by mixing with other moieties (polymeric or not), but also for obtaining derivatives with different properties. The physical and chemical characteristics and special structure (at the molecular, nano and micro scales) make zein molecules inherently superior to many other polymers from natural sources and synthetic ones. The film-forming property of zein and zein-based materials is important for several applications. The good electrospinnability of zein is important for producing zein and zein-based nanofibers for applications in tissue engineering and drug delivery. The use of zein’s hydrolysate peptides for reducing blood pressure is another important issue related to the application of derivatives of zein in the biomedical field. It is pointed out that the biodegradability and biocompatibility of zein and other inherent properties associated with zein’s structure allow a myriad of applications of such materials with great potential in the near future. 相似文献
