Assessed the comparative effectiveness of heart rate biofeedback (HRB) training, false HRB training, and systematic desensitization (SD) in reducing speech anxiety for 27 students chosen for their high scores on the item "speaking before a group" of the Fear Survey Schedule. Results indicate that all 3 groups demonstrated a decrease in self-reported (Personal Report of Confidence as a Speaker) and overt motor components of anxiety during 2 posttreatment assessment periods. Physiological measures (HR and skin conductance), however, indicate that the HRB group was associated with less physiological responding during the posttreatment assessments of anxiety relative to the other 2 groups. Based on seven case studies of buildings that underwent different degrees of moisture and mold damage remediation, we aimed to develop methodology for assessment of the success of the remediation process. Methods used in gauging the success included technical monitoring of performance of building structures and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, microbial monitoring of indoor air quality (IAQ), and health effects studies of building occupants. The assessment was based on measurable change in the situations before and after remediation. Based on technical monitoring, remediation was successful in three cases, with partial improvement noted in three cases, whereas no remediation was conducted in one case. Based on microbial monitoring, improvement was detected in one, partial improvement in two and no improvement in two cases, whereas no follow-up was conducted in two cases. Health effect studies (mainly self-reported health status) showed improvement in one case, partial improvement in two cases, and no improvement in two cases, whereas no follow-up was conducted in one case, and in one case, follow-up failed due to low response rate. The results illustrate that it is possible to monitor the effects of remediation using various metrics. However, in some cases, no improvement could be observed in IAQ or occupant health, even if the remediation was considered technically successful, i.e. the remediation was fully completed as recommended. This could be due to many reasons, including: 1) all damage may not have been addressed adequately; 2) IAQ or health may not have been perceived improved regardless of remediation; and/or 3) the methods used may not have been sensitive/specific enough to detect such improvement within the 6-12 months follow-up periods after completion of the remediation. There is a need to further develop tools for monitoring and assessment of the success of moisture damage remediation in buildings.  相似文献

The spatial pattern of trees can be defined as a property of their location in relation to each other. In this study, the spatial pattern was summarized into three categories, regular, random, and clustered, using Ripley's L-function. The study was carried out at 79 sample plots located in a managed forest in Finland. The goal was to study how well the spatial pattern of trees can be predicted by airborne laser scanning (ALS) data. ALS-derived predictions were based upon individual tree detection (ITD), semi-individual tree detection (semi-ITD), and plot-level metrics calculated from the canopy height model, AREA. The kappa value for ITD was almost zero, which indicates no agreement. The semi-ITD and AREA methods performed better, although kappa values were only 0.34 and 0.24, respectively. It appears difficult to detect a particularly clustered spatial pattern.  相似文献

The occurrence of Legionella in water of 30 cooling tower systems was studied, as well as the relationship of its occurrence with the physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics of the waters. The samples were concentrated by membrane filtration and one part of the concentrate was acid washed. Three types of culture media, MWY, CCVC and BCYEα were used. Fourteen (47%) of the cooling systems were Legionella-positive. Numbers of Legionella in the positive systems varied between 50 and 490,000 cfu/l. Legionella pneumophila was the dominant isolate, and the serogroups 6 and 1 were the commonest ones. There was no statistically significant difference in mean water temperature between the Legionella-positive (27°C) and -negative (24°C) systems. The total number of bacteria (AODC) was lower in the Legionella-positive than in the negative systems. Also the nutrient concentrations were generally lower in the Legionella-positive cooling systems. The results suggest that different factors regulate the occurrence of Legionella than that of overall bacterial populations in the cooling tower systems.  相似文献

The inlet sampling characteristics of several commercial bioaerosol samplers operating in indoor and outdoor environments have been analyzed by use of available and newly developed equations for sampling efficiency. With a focus on the physical aspects of sampling efficiency, the aspiration and transmission efficiencies have been calculated for the bioaerosol particle size range 1–30 μm, which represents single bacteria, bacteria aggregates, bacteria carrying particles, fungal spores, yeast, and pollen. Under certain sampling conditions, the bioaerosol concentration was found to be significantly over- or underestimated. At wind velocities between 0 and 500 cm s−1, calculations show that the AGI-30 would sample 1–10 μm particles with an inlet sampling efficiency of 20–100%. The entrance efficiency of the 6-stage Andersen viable sampler is 90–150% when sampling isoaxially with respect to horizontal aerosol flows, and 8–100% when oriented vertically at a right angle to the horizontal aerosol flow. For the Burkard portable air sampler, an even wider range of deviation may occur. The bioaerosol samplers used for large particles such as pollen are even less accurate: e.g. 10 times the ambient concentration of Lycopodium spores has been calculated to be aspirated by the Lanzoni sampler when operated at 0.5 1 min−1 facing the wind at wind velocity of about 500 cm s−1.

The actual bioaerosol concentration can be calculated from the measured data by use of the indicated procedures. The sampling efficiency graphs presented can be used to bracket the sampling conditions that enable the investigator to avoid or minimize significant sampling biases for each sampler. The findings can also be used for the design of new samplers or for improving commercially available samplers.  相似文献

This study examines the antecedents of individual innovative behaviour in short‐term innovation camp conditions. Innovation is increasingly a joint activity conducted in various kinds of temporary settings that collect widely diverse people together for a brief time to work on a particular problem. As innovativeness of interplaying individuals is key for the success of collaborative innovation, it is important to study what factors enhance individual innovative behaviour in temporary settings. Data from 103 innovation camp participants were the basis of PLS‐SEM analysis. Results show that individual creative self‐efficacy, perceived task orientation and experimentation have significant effects on individual innovative behaviour. In contrast, participative safety, support for innovation, and vision are not associated with individual innovativeness. These findings suggest that the antecedents of individual innovativeness in temporary settings differ from those identified in conventional groups, pointing to a new field for future research.  相似文献

This paper presents an optimization strategy for the design and operation of a broke management system in a papermaking process. A stochastic model based on a two-state Markov process is presented for the broke system and a multiobjective and bi-level stochastic optimization model is developed featuring (i) a multiobjective operational subproblem for the optimization of the broke dosage and (ii) a multiobjective design problem formulation. An efficient optimization strategy is proposed for the operational subproblem along with a simulation based Pareto optimal solution for the design problem, and illustrated with a detailed case study.  相似文献

The differences in the constituents of ten ester-type gum bases used as natural food additives in Japan (urushi wax, carnauba wax, candelilla wax, rice bran wax, shellac wax, jojoba wax, bees wax, Japan wax, montan wax, and lanolin) were investigated. Several kinds of gum bases showed characteristic TLC patterns of lipids. In addition, compositions of fatty acid and alcohol moieties of esters in the gum bases were analyzed by GC/MS after methanolysis and hydrolysis, respectively. The results indicated that the varieties of fatty acids and alcohols and their compositions were characteristic for each gum base. These results will be useful for identification and discrimination of the ester-type gum bases.  相似文献

The prevalence of irritative symptoms and the incidence of respiratory infections among children in a day-care center affected by mold were compared with those in a reference day-care center. A retrospective pilot study was made in the mold-problem day-care center. Analysis of absenteeism records and a one-year follow-up study were made in both day-care centers. In the pilot study, half of the exposed 41 children had prolonged or frequent symptoms and respiratory infections. In addition, the absenteeism in the mold-problem day-care center was nearly twice as high as in the reference day-care center. After cessation of the exposure, the occurrence of respiratory symptoms decreased and no lower respiratory tract infections appeared.  相似文献

Gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) is a versatile biomaterial that has been used in various biomedical fields. UV light is commonly used to photocrosslink such materials; however, its use has raised several biosafety concerns. We investigated the mechanical and biological properties of a visible-wavelength (VW)-light-crosslinked gelatin-based hydrogel to evaluate its viability as a scaffold for bone regeneration in bone-destructive disease treatment. Irgacure2959 or riboflavin was added as a photoinitiator to create GelMA solutions. GelMA solutions were poured into a mold and exposed to either UV or VW light. KUSA-A1 cell-laden GelMA hydrogels were crosslinked and then cultured. Mechanical characterization revealed that the stiffness range of GelMA–RF hydrogel was suitable for osteoblast differentiation. KUSA-A1 cells encapsulated in GelMA hydrogels photopolymerized with VW light displayed significantly higher cell viability than cells encapsulated in hydrogels photopolymerized with UV light. We also show that the expression of osteogenesis-related genes at a late stage of osteoblast differentiation in osteoblasts encapsulated in GelMA–RF hydrogel was markedly increased under osteoblast differentiation-inducing conditions. The GelMA–RF hydrogel served as an excellent scaffold for the encapsulation of osteoblasts. GelMA–RF hydrogel-encapsulated osteoblasts have the potential not only to help regenerate bone mass but also to treat complex bone defects associated with bone-destructive diseases such as periodontitis.  相似文献
