Moving objects databases have become an important research issue in recent years. For modeling and querying moving objects,
there exists a comprehensive framework of abstract data types to describe objects moving freely in the 2D plane, providing
data types such as moving point or moving region. However, in many applications people or vehicles move along transportation networks. It makes a lot of sense to model the
network explicitly and to describe movements relative to the network rather than unconstrained space, because then it is much
easier to formulate in queries relationships between moving objects and the network. Moreover, such models can be better supported
in indexing and query processing. In this paper, we extend the ADT approach by modeling networks explicitly and providing
data types for static and moving network positions and regions. In a highway network, example entities corresponding to these
data types are motels, construction areas, cars, and traffic jams. The network model is not too simplistic; it allows one
to distinguish simple roads and divided highways and to describe the possible traversals of junctions precisely. The new types
and operations are integrated seamlessly into the ADT framework to achieve a relatively simple, consistent and powerful overall

The technical feasibility of applying leachbed high-solids anaerobic digestion for reduction and stabilization of the organic fraction of solid wastes generated during space missions was investigated. This process has the advantages of not requiring oxygen or high temperature and pressure while producing methane, carbon dioxide, nutrients, and compost as valuable products. Anaerobic biochemical methane potential assays run on several waste feedstocks expected during space missions resulted in ultimate methane yields ranging from 0.23 to 0.30 L g-1 VS added. Modifications for operation of a leachbed anaerobic digestion process in space environments were incorporated into a new design, which included; (1) flooded operation to force leachate through densified feedstock beds; and (2) separation of biogas from leachate in a gas collection reservoir. This mode of operation resulted in stable performance with 85% conversion of a typical space solid waste blend, and a methane yield of 0.3 Lg per g VS added after a retention time of 15 days. These results were reproduced in a full-scale prototype system. A detailed analysis of this process was conducted to design the system sized for a space mission with a six-person crew. Anaerobic digestion compared favorably with other technologies for solid waste stabilization. 相似文献

A total of 107 Enterococcus strains, 10 Vagococcus fluvialis strains, and 8 Lactococcus garvieae strains were tested for acidification of methyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside (MGP) and susceptibility to 100-microg efrotomycin (EFRO) disks. All 26 strains of Enterococcus casseliflavus, including 3 nonmotile and 2 nonpigmented strains, acidified MGP and were resistant to EFRO. All 22 strains of Enterococcus gallinarum, including 5 nonmotile strains, also acidified MGP and were resistant to EFRO. None of the 26 strains of Enterococcus faecium acidified MGP, and all were susceptible to EFRO. Although all 12 Enterococcus faecalis strains were also negative in the MGP test, they were resistant to EFRO. Other enterococcal strains gave variable results. All 10 strains of V. fluvialis and all 8 strains of L. garvieae gave positive and negative results, respectively, in the MGP test and were, respectively, resistant and susceptible to EFRO. These results indicate that tests of the production of acid from MGP and susceptibility to EFRO can be used as adjunct tests in the identification of typical and atypical strains of enterococci in the clinical microbiology laboratory. 相似文献

We present here some measurements of thermal diffusion of some polyelectrolytes in aqueous solutions; in this work the Agar and Turner type of cell was used with its ancillary apparatus, built in this laboratory, developed to improve its precision. Isothermal diffusion coefficients were measured with Agar and Lobo's cell. Heat of transport are calculated and discussed. It is shown that some polyelectrolytes behave as a collection of connected spheres where each monomer unit contributes additively to the total heat of transport, whereas others behave differently. 相似文献

Annually integrated air concentrations of alpha- and gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) were determined in 2000/2001 at 40 stations across North America using XAD-based passive air samplers to understand atmospheric distribution processes on a continental scale. Elevated levels of gamma-HCH in the atmosphere of the Canadian Prairies are consistent with the ongoing use of lindane as a seed treatment on canola and confirm the feasibility of detecting the agricultural use of a pesticide using long-term integrated passive air sampling. In contrast to gamma-HCH, the atmospheric concentrations of alpha-HCH show a rather uniform distribution across Canada and the United States, which is expected for a chemical with no current use on the continent. Higher levels in the atmosphere over Atlantic Canada can be explained by alpha-HCH evaporating from the waters of the Labrador Current, which is supported bythe chiral composition of alpha-HCH and the temperature dependence of its atmospheric concentrations along the east coast of Canada. Similarly, alpha-HCH is volatilizing from Lake Superior. Atmospheric HCH levels increase with elevation in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The results suggest that evaporation, in particular from cold water bodies, is an important source of alpha-HCH to the North American atmosphere. Low levels of HCHs in Central America hint at efficient degradation under tropical conditions. Chiral analysis shows that (+)-alpha-HCH is often enriched in air over continental areas and at the Pacific Coast, which is opposite to the enantiomeric enrichment in the proximity to the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. Passive air sampling is a powerful tool to discern the large-scale variability of semivolatile and persistent organic chemicals in the atmosphere. 相似文献

This research is part of a general study on the properties of oriented strandboard (OSB) using wood strands of species from Brazilian planted forests. The OSB industry is the latest wood related activity established in Brazil. In this particular part of the study, 80 mm long strands of Pinus taeda L. were bonded using two resin types (urea-formaldehyde and phenol-formaldehyde) at two levels of resin content (5% and 8%) to produce three-layer cross-aligned OSB to a face to core layer ratio of 1:2 and target density of 0.75 g/cm3. Physical and mechanical properties of the boards were evaluated according to ASTM standard D 1037-96a (1997) and the results compared to standards available as requirements for commercial structural panels. The results indicate that all the mechanical properties evaluated were above the requirements set forth by the Canadian standard CSA O437.0 (1993) for structural panels. The results of Janka hardness were in average 4 folds higher than the minimal requirements for Grade R-1 waferboard. Screw withdrawal values were also above the minimum required by grade M-3 of ANSI A208.1 standard (1993). Nevertheless, values of thickness swelling and water absorption were very high. The low dimensional stability may be related to the high density of the boards (“springback” effect) and also to the fact that no wax was used. 相似文献

The behavior of fluoroquinolone antibacterial agents (FQs) during mechanical-biological wastewater treatment was studied by mass flow analysis. In addition, the fate of FQs in agricultural soils after sludge application was investigated. Concentrations of FQs in filtered wastewater (raw sewage, primary, secondary, and tertiary effluents) were determined using solid-phase extraction with mixed phase cation exchange disk cartridges and reversed-phase liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection. FQs in suspended solids, sewage sludge (raw, excess, and anaerobically digested sludge), and sludge-treated soils were determined as described for the aqueous samples but preceded by accelerated solvent extraction. Wastewater treatment resulted in a reduction of the FQ mass flow of 88-92%, mainly due to sorption on sewage sludge. A sludge-wastewater partition coefficient (log Kd approximately 4) was calculated in the activated sludge reactors with a hydraulic residence time of about 8 h. No significant removal of FQs occurred under methanogenic conditions of the sludge digesters. These results suggest sewage sludge as the main reservoir of FQ residues and outline the importance of sludge management strategies to determine whether most of the human-excreted FQs enter the environment. Field experiments of sludge-application to agricultural land confirmed the long-term persistence of trace amounts of FQs in sludge-treated soils and indicated a limited mobility of FQs into the subsoil. 相似文献

We propose a concept for InGaAsP-InP 1.55-microm lasers integrated with spot-size converters based on modal interference between the modes of the structure formed by an active waveguide and an underlying fiber-matched antiresonant reflecting optical waveguide. Simulation results show that the spot-size converters exhibit low transformation loss, and narrowed far-field emission patterns (10 degrees x 20 degrees) and reduce the coupling loss to standard single-mode fibers from 8 to 2.6 dB over lengths approximately 200 microm shorter than the adiabatic concept. A tolerant design to fabrication variations is also proposed, which could be realized by standard processing techniques. 相似文献

An adaptive neural system for positioning control of a PUMA 560 manipulator is presented". The computed torque method was implemented with a Multi-Layer Perceptron with on-line learning. The control scheme is implemented into two phases. The first one is the off-line phase in which the neural network is trained with previously known control actions. The second one is the on-line phase in which the neural network parameters are adapted while controlling the manipulator. The control system is able to respond to changes in the manipulator model and to load disturbances. Approximate range aggregate queries are one of the most frequent and useful kinds of queries for Decision Support Systems
(DSS), as they are widely used in many data analysis tasks. Traditionally, sampling-based techniques have been proposed to
tackle this problem. However, their effectiveness degrade when the underlying data distribution is skewed. Another approach
based on the outlier management can limit the effect of data skews but fails to address other requirements of approximate
range aggregate queries, such as error guarantees and query processing efficiency. In this paper, we present a technique that
provides approximate answers to range aggregate queries on OLAP data cubes efficiently, with theoretical guarantees on the
errors. Our basic idea is to build different data structures to manage outliers and the rest of the data. Carefully chosen
