A strategy for the structural characterization of the four major NaBH4-reduced peptidoglycan monomers derived from muramidase-digested peptidoglycan from the cyanelles of the flagellate Cyanophora paradoxa Korschikoff is described. Initial molecular weight determination of these glycopeptides was performed by positive and negative ion plasma desorption mass spectrometry. Due to the presence of two pairs of disaccharide tripeptide and disaccharide tetrapeptide monomers differing in mass by 112 units, respectively, an as yet unknown peptidoglycan modification either at the carbohydrate or at the peptide moiety was assumed. beta-Elimination of the disaccharide unit from the unreduced peptidoglycan monomers yielded the corresponding (modified) N1-lactyltripeptides and -tetrapeptides, respectively. These peptides, N-terminally blocked with lactic acid, unambiguously showed the modification to be located on the peptide moiety. By positive ion fast atom bombardment/hybrid tandem mass spectrometry of the reduced peptidoglycan monomers as well as of the corresponding deglycosylated monomers (= N1-lactylpeptides) the modification was determined to be linked to the glutamic acid moiety. Based on combined data from plasma desorption mass spectrometry, tandem mass spectrometry, accurate mass measurement and amino acid analysis of the acid hydrolysate after derivatization with o-phthaldialdehyde by high-performance liquid chromatography we could establish the structure of the modification as N-acetylputrescine. Finally, the confirmation of the linkage of the glutamic acid to diaminopimelic acid via the gamma-COOH was based on the presence of a-type peptide backbone fragment ions in the positive ion plasma desorption mass spectra of the modified N1-lactylpeptides. 相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of assessing the quality of an a posteriori error estimate of a finite element solution. An error estimate based on local L2-projections is analysed in the case of translation-invariant meshes. It is shown that for general meshes this technique does not lead to an asymptotically exact estimator. The problem is analysed in detail in the one-dimensional setting. It is shown that an asymptotically exact estimator is not the optimal one when the solution is not sufficiently smooth. An optimal estimator for adaptively constructed meshes is given. It is well-known that with the appearance of three independent papers by Taylor, Polanyi and Orowan in the year 1934, the concept of crystal dislocations was born. Since then, dislocation theory has had many spectacular successes. It is quite appropriate therefore to be aware of the state of development of this exciting subject, sixty years after its discovery. A flavour for the vast subject of the applications of dislocation mechanisms to real materials is presented by choosing three examples, one each, drawn from metallurgy, physics and electronics. The topic of ‘Strength of metals and alloys’ is the first one, as this is also the author’s area of research. The phenomenon of solidification and crystal growth forms the next topic, especially in view of the seminal contributions made by A R Verma and his school from India. Dislocations play a useful role in the strengthening of solids, but how influential are they in affecting the performance of modern semiconductor devices? In the third example, the interesting and painstaking work done to settle this question is reviewed. Can we regard carbon fibre as thetransistor of dislocation theory? How shall we understand the long-established effects such as corrosion-fatigue, superplasticity and shape memory as well as the electrochemical and electro-mechanical properties of dislocations in semiconductor and non-metallic crystals? In 2 experiments, bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) judged the ordinal relationship between novel numerosities. The dolphins were first trained to choose the exemplar with the fewer number of items when presented with just a few specific comparisons (e.g., 2 vs. 6, 1 vs. 3, and 3 vs. 7). Generalization of this rule was then tested by presenting the dolphins with all possible pairwise comparisons between 1 and 8. The dolphins chose the exemplar with the fewer number of items at levels far above chance, showing that they could recognize and represent numerosities on an ordinal scale. The present article deals with the processing and microstructural evolution of powder metallurgy (PM) Zn-22Al pct eutectoid
alloy. The powder material was produced through inert gas atomization and then cryomilled in liquid nitrogen. The milled powder
particles were consolidated by hot isostatic pressing (“hipping”) followed by thermomechanical treatment, resulting in a two-phase
microstructure. The microstructures were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron
microscopy (TEM). The principal processing factors and microstructural characteristics associated with the major processing
steps, including spray atomization, mechanical milling (MM), consolidation, and heat treatment, were evaluated and discussed.
Hot isostatic pressing and extrusion followed by heat treatment to produce the superplastic structure (Al-rich phase and Zn-rich
phase) are effective in elimination porosity. A TEM examination of the microstructure of the alloy after processing reveals
the presence of nanodispersion particles that are not uniformly distributed. The formation of the dispersions was attributed
to the interaction between the powder material (primarily Al phase) and environmental elements such as oxygen and nitrogen
during milling. Moreover, the size and distribution of the dispersions present in the bulk material met the anticipated requirements
for serving as inhibitors for grain growth and barriers for dislocation movement. The TEM observations on crept specimens

The purpose of the study proposed in this paper is to evaluate the Spanish public university websites dedicated to the European
Higher Education Area (EHEA). To do so, the quality of these resources has been analysed in the light of data provided by
a series of indicators grouped in seven criteria, most of which were used to determine what information is made available
and in what way. The criteria used in our analysis are: visibility, authority, updatedness, accesibility, correctness and
completeness, quality assessment and navigability.
All in all, the results allow us to carry out an overall diagnosis of the situation and also provide us with information about
the situation at each university, thus revealing their main strengths, namely authority and navegability, and also their chief
shortcomings: updatedness, accessibility and quality assessment. In this way it is possible to detect the best practices in
each of the aspects evaluated so that they can serve as an example and guide for universities with greater deficiencies and
