ABSTRACT

The drying characteristics of a single oil palm kernel suspended in a drying tunnel is studied. Luikov's unsteady state simultaneous heat and mass transpon equations are proposed as the governing equations. The model is simulated using the explicit and modified implicit Crank Nicholson finite difference algorithms. The desorption isotherms of the kernel warj determined using an environmental chamber and the data generated was found to fit the Hasley's and Henderson's equations well. The mass diffusion coefficient was determined by using a distributed system parameter identification technique where a weighted least square criterion between model and experimental average moisture content and temperature profiles is optimized using the Lagrangian algorithm within the constraints of the governing equations. The simulated parameter estimated drying characteristics were found to be in good agreement with experimental values.  相似文献

A facile sonochemical method was developed for preparing colloidal silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) in aqueous gelatin solutions. The effect of the reducing agent and Ag+ concentrations, ultrasonic time, and ultrasonic amplitude on the particle size has been investigated. The size of the Ag-NPs decreases with the ultrasonic amplitude and increases with ultrasonic time. Well-dispersed spherical Ag-NPs with a mean particle size of about 3.5 nm have been synthesized under ultrasonic process. The use of gelatin as an eco-friendly stabilizer provides green and economic attributes to this work. This preparation method is general and may be extended to other noble metals, such as Au, Pd and Pt, and may possibly find various additional medicinal, industrial and technological applications.  相似文献

The effect of LMO doping on the structure, magnetic and magnetotransport properties of La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 (LSMO)/xLaMnO3 (LMO) has been investigated. Two types of LSMO/xLMO composites, named as SLx (low temperature sintered samples) and SHx (high temperature sintered samples) samples, were prepared by different sintering temperature and solid-state reaction method. The presence of LMO at the grain boundaries increases the disordered states at the surface of the grains and therefore the magnetization and transition temperature decrease by increasing the amount of LMO doping level. Results show that the rate of decreasing of transition temperature is much more for high temperaure sintered samples. Also the resistivity of samples increases by the increase of LMO doping level. Results also show that the LMO doping has an effect on a low field magnetoresistance (LFMR). The value of LFMR increases for low doping level of 0 ≤ x ≤ 15, for SLx samples and 0 ≤ x ≤ 10 for SHx samples. Also LFMR decreases at high doping level. The spin dependent tunneling and scattering at the interfaces of the grain boundaries are responsible for the increase of LFMR at low doping level, while reduction of LFMR at high doping level may result from the grain boundary becoming too thick for electron tunneling.  相似文献

Interleukin-12 (IL-12) is necessary for the production of IFN-gamma by NK cells during the generation of innate immunity and by T cells for the development of the Th1 response during specific cell-mediated immunity. Here we demonstrate that the endogenous production of IL-12 is critical to the survival of both immunocompromised SCID mice and normal C.B-17 control mice during a primary infection with Listeria monocytogenes. When IL-12 is neutralized in vivo, both strains of mice die at a normally sublethal dose of Listeria. Anti-IL-12 antibody-treated mice showed a decrease in macrophage I-Ad expression and an increase Listeria burden in the spleen. Furthermore, as has been demonstrated in vitro, these effects of IL-12 in vivo were predominantly regulated through the production of IFN-gamma. Administration of IFN-gamma simultaneously with neutralizing antibodies to IL-12 restored macrophage I-Ad expression, limited the spread of the infection, and resulted in the survival of SCID mice. Thus, IL-12 is critical for resistance to infection with Listeria monocytogenes, and this resistance is mediated through stimulation by IL-12 of IFN-gamma production. Concomitant experiments confirmed that anti-TNF antibodies also resulted in uncontrolled infection and a decrease in macrophage I-Ad expression. However, administration of IFN-gamma restored the levels of I-Ad in macrophages but did not limit Listeria growth.  相似文献

We report demonstration of a new high-power semiconductor laser technology, the optically pumped semiconductor (OPS) vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser (VECSEL). Using diode laser pump, an OPS-VECSEL laser with a strain-compensated InGaAs-GaAsP-GaAs multiquantum-well (MQW) structure operated continuous-wave (CW) near /spl lambda//spl sim/1004 nm with record output power of 0.69 W in a TEM/sub 11/ mode, 0.52 W in a TEM/sub 00/ mode, and 0.37 W coupled to a single-mode fiber. It is feasible to produce greater than 1 W of power in a diffraction-limited circular beam from an efficient, compact, manufacturable and reliable OPS-VECSEL laser.  相似文献

Chemical composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the fresh leaves and stems oils of Piper caninum were investigated. A total of forty eight constituents were identified in the leaves (77.9%) and stems (87.0%) oil which were characterized by high proportions of phenylpropanoid, safrole with 17.1% for leaves and 25.5% for stems oil. Antioxidant activities were evaluated by using β-carotene/linoleic acid bleaching, DPPH radical scavenging and total phenolic content. Stems oil showed the highest inhibitory activity towards lipid peroxidation (114.9 ± 0.9%), compared to BHT (95.5 ± 0.5%), while leaves oil showed significant total phenolic content (27.4 ± 0.5 mg GA/g) equivalent to gallic acid. However, the essential oils showed weak activity towards DPPH free-radical scavenging. Evaluation of antimicrobial activity revealed that both oils exhibited strong activity against all bacteria strains with MIC values in the range 62.5 to 250 μg/mL, but weak activity against fungal strains. These findings suggest that the essential oils can be used as antioxidant and antimicrobial agents for therapeutic, nutraceutical industries and food manufactures.  相似文献
