The adsorption of cobalt phthalocyanine dye onto activated carbon in a continuous stirred tank adsorber was studied. The variables investigated were: adsorbent mass, adsorbent particle size and fluid flowrate. Several models based on film, pore and surface diffusion were constructed and fitted to the experimental data. Experimental results showed: (i) the increasing importance of the film mass transfer resistance for increasing adsorbent loads; (ii) the increasing importance of the surface diffusion mechanism for increasing adsorbent loads; and (iii) the better discrimination among different models for higher adsorbent loads and lower flowrate.  相似文献

In this work, heather and its flowers were studied regarding their antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. Plants were subjected to ultrasound-assisted methanolic extraction followed by fractionation. A phytochemical characterisation of extracts content in total phenols and flavonoids, and their antioxidant activity was performed. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated through the determination of minimum inhibitory concentration and by bioautography. Following, studies on the antilisterial potential were carried out by: time-kill curves, inhibition of biofilm formation and tolerance of Listeria monocytogenes to adverse conditions. The results evidenced the antioxidant activity in both extracts, as well as, the antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Concerning the evaluation of the antilisterial potential, a bacteriostatic behaviour and inhibition of biofilms formation ability were observed. Listeria monocytogenes showed an increased susceptibility to adverse conditions when preincubated with extracts. Thus, heather and its flowers may be a source of new compounds with antilisterial activity potential.  相似文献

Carob pod, fig and almond liqueurs are produced in various Mediterranean regions. This work reports the mineral content of these traditional beverages and evaluates the influence of the raw material. Twenty‐five fruit liqueurs from 16 producers were analysed. A simple open‐vessel sample mineralization by wet digestion using nitric acid–hydrogen peroxide (1:1) was used before spectrometric analysis. Nine essential elements (Cu, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Fe, Zn, Mn and P) and two non‐essentials (Cd and Pb) were quantified by microwave plasma–atomic emission spectrometry (MP‐AES). Carob liqueur presented the broader profile of minerals and was the only fruit liqueur containing iron (72.7% of samples), phosphorous, manganese and low levels of lead (in two of the 11 samples). Conversely, almond liqueurs contained the lowest mineral content with only five elements detected. Fruit liqueurs showed variability in mineral content even within the same liqueur, presumably as a consequence of the different manufacturing processes. Despite this variability, application of principal component analysis to essential mineral concentrations (K, Na, Ca, Mg, Mn, Fe and Zn) resulted in satisfactory classification (PC1 and PC2 accounting for 78.5% of the total variance) of the Portuguese liqueurs evaluated. Mushrooms are very perishable foods due to their high susceptibility to moisture loss, changes in color and texture, or microbiological spoilage. Drying is considered as the most appropriate method to prevent these alterations, but it has some limitations, such as shrinkage, enzymatic and non-enzymatic browning reactions, and oxidation of lipids and vitamins. According to previous studies, irradiation might effectively attenuate the undesirable changes caused by drying process, ensuring also higher shelf-life of mushrooms and their decontamination. Electron-beam irradiation presents some technological advantages, since it allows higher dose rates and the possibility to be used in most foods/or thin products in a short period. Herein, the combined effects of electron-beam irradiation (0, 0.5, 1 and 6 kGy) and storage time (0, 6 and 12 months) were evaluated by measuring changes in nutritional parameters, namely, free sugars, tocopherols, fatty acids and antioxidant activity. As indicated by linear discriminant analysis, storage time had a higher effect on all the evaluated parameters, except fatty acids, which suffer significant changes with both factors. Overall, the obtained results indicate that electron-beam irradiation might be considered as a suitable technique, allowing long-lasting conservation periods while reducing changes induced by drying treatment.  相似文献

The NAD+‐dependent deacetylases, namely sirtuins, are involved in the regulation of a variety of biological processes such as gene silencing, DNA repair, longevity, metabolism, apoptosis, and development. An enzyme from the parasite Leishmania infantum that belongs to this family, LiSIR2RP1, is a NAD+‐dependent tubulin deacetylase and an ADP‐ribosyltransferase. This enzyme's involvement in L. infantum virulence and survival underscores its potential as a drug target. Our search for selective inhibitors of LiSIR2RP1 has led, for the first time, to the identification of the antiparasitic and anticancer bisnaphthalimidopropyl (BNIP) alkyl di‐ and triamines (IC50 values in the single‐digit micromolar range for the most potent compounds). Structure–activity studies were conducted with 12 BNIP derivatives that differ in the length of the central alkyl chain, which links the two naphthalimidopropyl moieties. The most active and selective compound is the BNIP diaminononane (BNIPDanon), with IC50 values of 5.7 and 97.4 μM against the parasite and human forms (SIRT1) of the enzyme, respectively. Furthermore, this compound is an NAD+‐competitive inhibitor that interacts differently with the parasite and human enzymes, as determined by docking analysis, which might explain its selectivity toward the parasitic enzyme.  相似文献

The photochemistry of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) was studied on silica and cellulose, using time-resolved diffuse reflectance techniques and product degradation analysis. The results have shown that the photochemistry of 4-CP depends on the support, on the concentration, and also on the sample preparation method. Transient absorption and photoproduct results can be understood by assuming the formation of the carbene 4-oxocyclohexa-2,5-dienylidene in both supports. On cellulose, at concentrations lower than 10 micromol g(-1), the carbene leads to the unsubstituted phenoxyl radical, and phenol is the main degradation product. At higher concentrations a new transient resulting from phenoxyl radicals coupling was also observed, and dihydroxybiphenyls are also formed. The reaction of the carbene with ground-state 4-CP was also detected through the formation of 5-chloro-2,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl. 4-Chlorophenoxyl radical and degradations products resulting from its coupling were also detected. Oxygen has little effect on the photochemistry of 4-CP on cellulose. On silica the transient benzoquinone O-oxide was formed in the presence of oxygen. Benzoquinone and hydroquinone are the main degradation products. In well-dried samples the formation of hydroquinone is reduced. At higher concentrations the same products as detected on cellulose were observed. 4-CP undergoes slow photochemical decomposition under solar radiation in both supports. This paper investigates the generation of flow mass errors in finite-element shallow water models and the effect of these errors in the mass conservation of Eulerian-Lagrangian transport simulations. Flow mass errors are shown to be similar for several primitive and wave equation formulations. These errors occur primarily in areas of steep bathymetric gradients and near complex boundaries. Forcing Eulerian-Lagrangian transport simulations with nonconservative flow fields generates important mass imbalances, which can be mitigated by refining the flow grid. Comparatively, refining the transport grid only reduces marginally the mass errors.  相似文献

The dipolar relaxation mechanisms in poly(vinyl acetate) have been studied in detail using the technique of thermally stimulated currents. The papers published in the literature about this subject are very contradictory, particularly with respect to the assignment of the observed discharges to the corresponding motions at the molecular level. This work aims at clarifying these problems. We detected and characterised three different relaxation mechanisms: (1) a low temperature one (around ?140°C) which was attributed to local internal rotations in the acetate side-groups; (2) a relaxation whose maximum occurs at 42°C, which corresponds to the glass transition relaxation, and shows a compensation behaviour; (3) an upper glass transition relaxation whose maximum appears at 87°C and was attributed to a liquid-liquid transition. These assignments have been made on the basis of the analysis of the behaviour of the samples when submitted to different thermal and electrical treatments.  相似文献

A dioxomolybdenum(vi) complex bearing a tetradentate anionic N,O oxazoline ligand with four stereocenters has been studied as a catalyst in the liquid-phase epoxidation of 17 different aliphatic and aromatic olefins (including prochiral, racemate or pure enantiomers) using tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant. Epoxide selectivities of up to 100% and variable epoxide yields (3–100% within 24 h) were obtained. Although the complex generally exhibited low or no chiral induction ability, diastereoselectivity was significant in some cases (in the reaction of limonene, for example). Kinetic studies and recycling tests with the substrates cis-cyclooctene and trans-β-methylstyrene showed that the catalyst is stable and reusable, and recycling is facilitated by immobilization of the complex in a room temperature ionic liquid. Preliminary results show that the complex may have a broad substrate scope, not only for olefin epoxidation, but also for the dehydrogenation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds and the sulfoxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides.  相似文献

This paper reports the first approach to the antioxidant potential evaluation of traditional stoned table olives “alcaparras”. This kind of olives are largely produced and consumed in Trás-os-Montes region (Northeast of Portugal). Different solvents and temperature extraction conditions were employed in order to achieve the best method to obtain phenolic compounds and a higher antioxidant activity. The optimum method (water at boiling temperature) was applied on 10 samples from the traditional market. The total phenol content ranged between 5.58 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g and 29.88 mg GAE/g and effective concentration (EC50) values were in the range 0.36-1.64 and 0.34-1.72 mg/mL for reducing power and radical scavenging effect, respectively. A significantly negative linear regression was observed between the total phenol content found in the samples and its antioxidant activity.  相似文献
