The present experiments examined whether pigeons can sum symbols that are associated with various temporal consequences in a touch screen apparatus. Pigeons were trained to discriminate between two visual symbols that were associated with 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 s either of delay to 4 s of hopper access (delay group) or duration of hopper access (reward group). In Experiment 1, the pigeons in both groups learned to select the symbol associated with the more favorable outcome, and they successfully transferred this discrimination to novel symbol pairs. However, when tested with 2 pairs of symbols associated with different summed durations, they responded on the basis of a simple response rule rather than the sum of the symbol pair. In Experiment 2, the reward group was presented with four symbols at once and was allowed to successively choose one symbol at a time. All pigeons chose the symbols in order from largest to smallest. This indicates that pigeons formed an ordered representation of symbols associated with different time intervals, even though they did not sum the symbols. An intercomparison of calibration systems for AC shunts up to audio frequencies (10 kHz) between the National Research Council of Canada, Japan Electric Meters Inspection Corporation, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is presented. The comparison was implemented with a transfer standard of 10 A, 0.1 /spl Omega/ calculable AC/DC shunt, designed by Japan Electric Meters Inspection Corporation. The results indicate that there are no significant differences in the overall accuracy of calibration systems for AC shunts at frequencies up to 10 kHz in each laboratory.  相似文献

A significant improvement in the treatment of trypanosomiases has been achieved with the recent development of nifurtimox–eflornithine combination therapy (NECT). As an alternative to drug combinations and as a means to overcome most of the antitrypanosomatid drug discovery challenges, a multitarget drug design strategy has been envisaged. To begin testing this hypothesis, we designed and developed a series of quinone–coumarin hybrids against glyceraldehyde‐3‐phosphate dehydrogenase/trypanothione reductase (GAPDH/TR). These enzymes belong to metabolic pathways that are vital to Trypanosoma brucei and Trypanosoma cruzi, and have thus been considered promising drug targets. The synthesized molecules were characterized for their dual‐target antitrypanosomal profile, both in enzyme assays and in in vitro parasite cultures. The merged derivative 2‐{[3‐(3‐dimethylaminopropoxy)‐2‐oxo‐2H‐chromen‐7‐yl]oxy}anthracene‐1,4‐dione ( 10 ) showed an IC50 value of 5.4 μM against TbGAPDH and a concomitant Ki value of 2.32 μM against TcTR. Notably, 2‐{4‐[6‐(2‐dimethylaminoethoxy)‐2‐oxo‐2H‐chromen‐3‐yl]phenoxy}anthracene‐1,4‐dione (compound 6 ) displayed a remarkable EC50 value for T. brucei parasites (0.026 μM ) combined with a very low cytotoxicity toward mammalian L6 cells (7.95 μM ). This promising low toxicity of compound 6 might be at least partially due to the fact that it does not interfere with human glutathione reductase.  相似文献

In this experimental work, methane steam reforming (MSR) reaction is performed in a dense Pd-Ag membrane reactor and the influence of pressure on methane conversion, COx-free hydrogen recovery and COx-free hydrogen production is investigated. The reaction is conducted at 450 °C by supplying nitrogen as a sweep gas in co-current flow configuration with respect to the reactants. Three experimental campaigns are realized in the MR packed with Ni-ZrO catalyst, which showed better performances than Ni-Al2O3 used in a previous paper dealing with the same MR system. The first one is directed to keep constant the total pressure in both retentate and permeate sides of the membrane reactor. In the second case study, the total retentate pressure is kept constant at 9.0 bar, while the total permeate pressure is varied between 5.0 and 9.0 bar. As the best result of this work, at 450 °C and 4.0 bar of total pressure difference between retentate and permeate sides, around 65% methane conversion and 1.2 l/h of COx-free hydrogen are reached, further recovering 80% COx-free hydrogen over the total hydrogen produced during the reaction. Moreover, a study on the influence of hydrogen-rich gas mixtures on the hydrogen permeation through the Pd-Ag membrane is also performed and discussed.  相似文献

Serological assays are useful in investigating the development of humoral immunity against SARS-CoV-2 in the context of epidemiological studies focusing on the spread of protective immunity. The plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT) is the gold standard method to assess the titer of protective antibodies in serum samples. However, to provide a result, the PRNT requires several days, skilled operators, and biosafety level 3 laboratories. Therefore, alternative methods are being assessed to establish a relationship between their outcomes and PRNT results. In this work, four different immunoassays (Roche Elecsys® Anti SARS-CoV-2 S, Snibe MAGLUMI® SARS-CoV-2 S-RBD IgG, Snibe MAGLUMI® 2019-nCoV IgG, and EUROIMMUN® SARS-CoV-2 NeutraLISA assays, respectively) have been performed on individuals healed after SARS-CoV-2 infection. The correlation between each assay and the reference method has been explored through linear regression modeling, as well as through the calculation of Pearson’s and Spearman’s coefficients. Furthermore, the ability of serological tests to discriminate samples with high titers of neutralizing antibodies (>160) has been assessed by ROC curve analyses, Cohen’s Kappa coefficient, and positive predictive agreement. The EUROIMMUN® NeutraLISA assay displayed the best correlation with PRNT results (Pearson and Spearman coefficients equal to 0.660 and 0.784, respectively), as well as the ROC curve with the highest accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity (0.857, 0.889, and 0.829, respectively).  相似文献

Breast cancer (BC) is a heterogeneous malignancy that still represents the second cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide. Due to the heterogeneity of BC, the correct identification of valuable biomarkers able to predict tumor biology and the best treatment approaches are still far from clear. Although molecular imaging with positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) has improved the characterization of BC, these methods are not free from drawbacks. In recent years, radiomics and artificial intelligence (AI) have been playing an important role in the detection of several features normally unseen by the human eye in medical images. The present review provides a summary of the current status of radiomics and AI in different clinical settings of BC. A systematic search of PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus was conducted, including all articles published in English that explored radiomics and AI analyses of PET/CT images in BC. Several studies have demonstrated the potential role of such new features for the staging and prognosis as well as the assessment of biological characteristics. Radiomics and AI features appear to be promising in different clinical settings of BC, although larger prospective trials are needed to confirm and to standardize this evidence.  相似文献

The photoluminescence (PL), radioluminescence (RL) and thermoluminescence (TL) of KMgF3 doped at several Sm concentrations have been investigated. The maximum TL and RL yield under beta irradiation has been observed in KMgF3:Sm 0.02 mol%. The glow curve of this doped perovskite is made up of at least five peaks located at 95, 120, 160, 270, and 330 °C. The third peak appears to be the most convenient for personal or environmental dosimetry, since it shows no fading and good linearity within the investigated dose range (0.020-200 Gy). From the RL and PL spectra it has been found that most of KMgF3:Sm emission is located at wavelengths higher than 650 nm. This emission, which is characteristic of Sm2+, makes this doped compound attractive for fiber-optic dosimetry.  相似文献

In the frame of the activities related to ITER divertor R&D, ENEA C.R. Brasimone was in charge by Fusion For Energy (F4E) to perform the assembly, the hydraulic tests and the theoretical simulation of the hydraulic behavior of the full scale divertor cassette prototype. The objective of these activities was aimed at the investigation of the thermal-hydraulic behavior of the full-scale divertor cassette both under steady state condition and during draining and drying operational transient. In particular, the steady state tests were focused on finally check whether the hydraulic design of the divertor components is able to ensure a uniform and proper cooling for the plasma facing components, with an acceptable pressure drop; whilst the transient ones were aimed at defining proper procedures for draining and drying the divertor cassette as well as for refilling it with water.This paper presents the results of the steady state and transient hydraulic experimental test campaigns performed at ENEA C.R. Brasimone as well as the relevant numerical analysis performed at the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the University of Palermo adopting the RELAP5 Mod3.3 thermal-hydraulic system code.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To explore the temporal relation of demyelination and blood-brain barrier breakdown during new lesion formation. BACKGROUND: Conventional MRI appears sensitive for detecting changes due to MS, but may be limited by poor pathologic specificity. By indirectly assessing protons bound to rigid macromolecules, magnetization transfer (MT) imaging may provide information relating to tissue structure and, by inference, myelin integrity. METHODS: Gadolinium contrast-enhanced MRI and MT imaging were performed at weekly intervals for 3 months in three patients with MS. For each enhancing lesion, the largest corresponding area of proton density hyperintensity seen during the study was outlined and magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) calculated at each time point from coregistered calculated MTR images. Lesions greater than 20 mm2, not affected by partial volume effects, and first enhancing after the baseline study were analyzed. Two-dimensional registration software allowed accurate evaluation of MTR in regions both before and after the initial appearance of MS lesions. RESULTS: Mean lesion MTR decreased significantly during the first week of enhancement (29.6 percent units [pu] immediately pre-enhancement versus 28.2 pu at first documented stage of enhancement). No significant MTR reduction was noted before this. CONCLUSION: The lack of observable change in MTR before the first detectable gadolinium enhancement within MS lesions suggests that blood-brain barrier disruption is closely related to, but not preceded by, demyelination.  相似文献
