A simple numerical technique is proposed for the construction of the estimate of integrals which represent the average error probability of many digital communication systems. Since these integrals are expressed as the expectation of some function of a random variable, their evaluation can be based on the knowledge of a number of moments of the variable. This is investigated from the viewpoint of discussing an algorithm based on interpolatory quadrature formulas which have equally spaced nodes. Attempts to study the neutral lipase reported in germinating castor seeds and to compare this enzyme to the acid lipase of
dormant seeds were unsuccessful because of the inability to repeat the work described earlier (1). Activity of the proposed
neutral lipase could not be detected, nor could appearance of the enzyme be hastened or affected by treating the germinating

This paper introduces a prototype audio-biofeedback system for balance improvement through the sonification using trunk kinematic information. In tests of this system, normal healthy subjects performed several trials in which they stood quietly in three sensory conditions while wearing an accelerometric sensory unit and headphones. The audio-biofeedback system converted in real-time the two-dimensional horizontal trunk accelerations into a stereo sound by modulating its frequency, level, and left/right balance. Preliminary results showed that subjects improved balance using this audio-biofeedback system and that this improvement was greater the more that balance was challenged by absent or unreliable sensory cues. In addition, high correlations were found between the center of pressure displacement and trunk acceleration, suggesting accelerometers may be useful for quantifying standing balance. 相似文献

The pressure drop across a heat exchanger is an important parameter, along with the heat transfer capacity. In fact, the operating cost throughout the life of the exchanger depends on the pressure losses. Therefore, it is important to be able to predict pressure drop accurately as it is to predict heat transfer.A new data set of shell-side pressure drop measurements taken during isothermal flow of brines in shell and tube evaporators was collected in the Alfa Laval laboratory. It covers several different configurations of industrial shell and tube evaporators and a wide range of operating conditions, with cross flow Reynolds number ranging from 170 to 33,000.The database is compared against two predictive procedures available in the literature for computing shell-side pressure drop, showing that no method is accurate enough for design purpose.As a further step, a new suggested procedure is presented, which extends the Wills and Johnston [Wills MJN, Johnston D. Precise calculations of the total Rayleigh-scattering optical depth have been performed at 88 wavelengths ranging from 0.20 to 4.00 microm for the six well-known standard atmosphere models by integrating the volume Rayleigh-scattering coefficient along the vertical atmospheric path from sea level to a 120-km height. The coefficient was determined by use of an improved algorithm based on the Ciddor algorithm [Appl. Opt. 35, 1566 (1996)], extended by us over the 0.20-0.23-microm wavelength range to evaluate the moist air refractive index as a function of wavelength, air pressure, temperature, water-vapor partial pressure, and CO2 volume concentration. The King depolarization factor was also defined taking into account the moisture conditions of air. The results indicate that the influence of water vapor on Rayleigh scattering cannot be neglected at tropospheric altitudes: for standard atmospheric conditions represented in terms of the U.S. Standard Atmosphere (1976) model, the relative variations produced by water vapor in the Rayleigh scattering parameters at a 0.50-microm wavelength turn out to be equal to -0.10% in the moist air refractivity at sea level (where the water-vapor partial pressure is equal to approximately 7.8 hPa), -0.04% in the sea-level King factor, -0.24% in the sea-level Rayleigh-scattering cross section, and -0.06% in the Rayleigh-scattering optical depth. 相似文献

Celiac disease (CD) is sustained by abnormal intestinal mucosal T-cell response to gluten and it is strongly associated with HLA class II molecules encoded by DQA1*0501/DQB1*02 (DQ2) or DQA1*03/DQB1*0302 (DQ8). The in vitro stimulatory activity of gliadin increases after treatment with tissue transglutaminase (tTG) which catalyses the deamidation of specific residues of glutamine to glutamate that can serve as anchors for binding to DQ2 as well as to DQ8 molecules. We modelled the three-dimensional structure of the DQ2 dimer protein, the most frequent in celiac patients, by using a homology modelling strategy, and deposited the model in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Then, we simulated the interactions of DQ2 with different gluten peptides and the deamidation of specific peptide glutamines in the known p4, p6, p7 and p9 anchor positions, as well as in p1 and p5 positions, and other substitutions for which experimental effects on binding are available by previous experimental studies. By evaluating the energy of interaction and the H-bond interactions, we were able to distinguish what substitutions improve the interaction peptide-DQ2, in agreement with previously published experimental data. By analysing the peptide-DQ2 complex at the atom level, we observed that these glutamate side chains can interact with specific positively charged amino acids of DQ2, absent in other HLA alleles not related to celiac disease. The simulation was also extended to other peptides, related to celiac disease but for which no experimental data exists about the effects of glutamine deamidation. Our results give an interpretation at the molecular level of previously reported binding experimental data and open a new window to gain further insights about peptide recognition in celiac disease. 相似文献

A magnetic Pt/SiO2/Fe3O4 catalyst consisting of chirally modified platinum supported on silica coated magnetite nanoparticles was prepared using an easy synthetic route and successfully applied for the enantioselective hydrogenation of various activated ketones. The magnetic catalyst modified with cinchonidine showed a catalytic performance (activity, enantioselectivity) in the asymmetric hydrogenation of various activated ketones in toluene comparable to the best known Pt/alumina catalyst used for these reactions. The novel catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction solution by applying an external magnetic field and recycled several times with almost complete retention of activity and enantioselectivity. 相似文献
