Exogenous melatonin is used in a number of situations, first and foremost in the treatment of sleep disorders and jet leg. However, the hypnotic, antinociceptive, and anticonvulsant properties of melatonin endow this neurohormone with the profile of a drug that modulates effects of anesthetic agents, supporting its potential use at different stages during anesthetic procedures, in both adults and children. In light of these properties, melatonin has been administered to children undergoing diagnostic procedures requiring sedation or general anesthesia, such as magnetic resonance imaging, auditory brainstem response tests and electroencephalogram. Controversial data support the use of melatonin as anxiolytic and antinociceptive agents in pediatric patients undergoing surgery. The aim of this review was to evaluate available evidence relating to efficacy and safety of melatonin as an analgesic and as a sedative agent in children. Melatonin and its analogs may have a role in antinociceptive therapies and as an alternative to midazolam in premedication of adults and children, although its effectiveness is still controversial and available data are clearly incomplete. 相似文献

The tetrasaccharide 4, a substructure of ganglioside GQ1balpha, shows a remarkable affinity for the myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) and was therefore selected as starting point for a lead optimization program. In our search for structurally simplified and pharmacokinetically improved mimics of 4, antagonists with modifications of the core disaccharide Galbeta(1-3)GalNAc, as well as the terminal alpha(2-3)- and the internal alpha(2-6)-linked neuraminic acid were synthesized and tested in target-based binding assays. Compared to the reference tetrasaccharide 4, the most potent antagonist 17 exhibits a 360-fold improved affinity. Furthermore, pharmacokinetic parameters such as stability in the cerebrospinal fluid, logD and permeation through the BBB indicate the drug-like properties of antagonist 17. 相似文献

A rapid Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) attenuated total reflectance (ATR) spectroscopic method was applied to the determination of water content (WC), total phenol amount (TP) and antioxidant activity (ABTS . +) of virgin olive oils (VOO) and olive oils. Calibration models were constructed using partial least squares regression. Oil samples with WC ranging from 289 to 1402 mg water/kg oil, with TP from 46 to 877 mg gallic acid/kg oil and with ABTS . + from 0 to 5.7 mmol Trolox/kg oil were considered for chemometric analysis. Better results were obtained when selecting suitable spectral ranges; in particular, from 2260 to 1008 cm?1 for WC, from 3610 to 816 cm?1 for TP and from 3707 to 1105 cm?1 for ABTS . +. Satisfactory LOD values by the FTIR‐chemometric methods were achieved: 9.4 (mg/kg oil) for WC; 12.5 (mg gallic acid/kg oil) for TP, and 0.76 (mmol Trolox/kg oil) for ABTS . +. The evaluation of the applicability of these analytical approaches was tested by use of validation sample sets (n = 16 for WC, n = 11 for TP and n = 14 for ABTS) with nearly quantitative recovery rates (99–114%). The FTIR–ATR method provided results that were comparable to conventional procedures. Practical applications : The presented method is based on ATR–FTIR in combination with multivariate calibration methodologies and permits a simultaneous evaluation of important quality parameters of VOO (WC, TP and ABTS . +). This approach represents an easy and convenient means for monitoring olive oil quality with the advantage of ease of operation, speed, no sample pretreatment and no consumption of solvents. The data obtained with this method are comparable to those obtained using the official reference method. The effect of processing on mycotoxin content in milling fractions has been investigated in 10 samples of durum wheat contaminated with T-2 and HT-2 toxins at levels ranging from 97 to 5,954 μg/kg (sum of T-2 and HT-2 toxins). Either naturally contaminated samples or samples artificially inoculated with Fusarium sporotrichioides under field conditions were used. A method based on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry coupled with immunoaffinity column cleanup was validated in-house for the simultaneous analysis of both toxins in a variety of matrices, including uncleaned wheat, cleaned wheat, screenings, bran, red dog, fine middlings, and semolina. Mean recoveries from samples spiked with T-2 and HT-2 toxins at levels of 100 μg/kg ranged from 85 to 107%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) lower than 14%. The milling process led to an increase of T-2 and HT-2 toxin contents up to 13- and 5-fold in screenings and bran, respectively, compared with occurrence in the uncleaned wheat; however, an overall reduction of T-2 and HT-2 toxins by 54% (RSD, 20%) and 89% (RSD, 3%) was observed in cleaned wheat and in semolina, respectively. 相似文献

The boron-carbon superalloys (BC alloys) were developed to reduce the carbon content of the alloys to less than 0.02 wt.% and increase the boron content to 0.1 wt.% in some Ni-based superalloys. In this study, we have used characterization techniques, such as DTA, XRD, SEM coupling, and thermodynamic calculation using Thermo-Calc software, to obtain information about the phase transformation reaction temperatures and the elemental compositions of the microstructural constituents encountered in the B1914 superalloy. The microstructure of the B1914 superalloy was composed of a gamma (γ) phase with a dendritic structure and gamma prime (γ′) phase with a cuboidal shape. Precipitates of γ′ and a lamellar eutectic, composed of γ/(Mo,Cr,Ni)3B2, were identified in the interdendritic region. The thermodynamic calculation results have shown to be a valuable tool for predicting the transformation temperature, such as liquidus, γ’ solvus, and incipient melting point. These transformations are important parameters used in casting simulation software for determining the heat treatment and welding repair conditions for parts made from this alloy. 相似文献

In the present work, the corrosion resistance of ferritic-martensitic EUROFER 97 and ODS-EUROFER steels was tested in solutions containing NaCl or H2SO4 and KSCN, both at 25 °C. The results were compared to those of AISI 430 ferritic and AISI 410 martensitic conventional stainless steels. The as-received samples were tested by electrochemical techniques, specifically, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization curves, and double-loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation tests. The surfaces were observed by scanning electron microscopy after exposure to corrosive media. The results showed that EUROFER 97 and ODS-EUROFER alloys present similar corrosion resistance but lower than ferritic AISI 430 and martensitic 410 stainless steels. 相似文献

A coarse-grained ingot of high-purity tantalum was deformed by swaging at room temperature to a strain of 1.28. During annealing at 900°C for 30 min two neighboring grains were observed to behave quite differently. Electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) results show noticeable differences in terms of the misorientations developed in both grains. The grain developing larger misorientations recrystallized much more readily than the other. The result is interpreted in terms of the differences in grain subdivision into strongly misoriented regions. 相似文献

The catalytic performances of several solid catalysts in the transesterification of vegetable oils with methanol were studied in small steel vials. The eventual presence of an homogeneous contribution to the catalysis—due to the leaching of the active phase—was also investigated. The behaviour of one of the more promising catalyst (TiO2 supported on SiO2) was further deepened in batch and continuous reactors by using the catalysts in pellets, to evaluate the possibility of developing an industrial process based on this catalyst. Web-based e-commerce of rapid prototyping services is going to be a widely diffused methodology used to compete in a global market. A competitive market imposes a very accurate estimation of prototyping price. Prototype costs depend on many factors, some of which may be easily deduced, while some others consist in a complex function of the geometric model properties and of the specific technology employed to build a physical model. Build time, which affects some components of the prototype's build cost, is a critical factor to deduce. Build time depends not only on the prototype dimensions but also on the complexity of the shape that, in turn, affects the movement of the tool to form the object. A parametric approach to build cost estimation, suited for web-based e-commerce, is presented in this paper. Significant cost driving factors of layer manufactured objects are identified and instruments to evaluate them are proposed. Special attention has been paid to define a parametric approach to build time estimation. The proposed parametric approach analyses the geometrical features, which typically affect the build time of the main layer manufacturing technologies.
