The rheological properties of conventional polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins are not particularly suitable for low density extrusion foaming with physical blowing agents; as a result, chemically modified resins through chain extension/branching reactions are often used. Such resins have overall higher melt viscosity and higher melt strength/melt “elasticity” than unmodified materials. In this work, following a review of the prior art on PET chemical modification, an unmodified and a chemically modified resin were selected and characterized for their melt viscoelastic properties including shear and dynamic complex viscosity over a broad shear rate/frequency range, storage and loss modulus, and die swell. Certain rheological models were found to provide better fits of the entire viscosity curve for the unmodified vs. the modified resin. Foamed extrudates having variable densities (from about 1.2 to 0.2 g/cc), were prepared by carbon dioxide injection in monolayer flat sheet extrusion equipment. Foams with increasingly lower density, below 0.5 g/cc, were obtained by increasing gas pressure only in the case of the chemically modified resin. The effects of variables such as concentration of the physical blowing agent, resin rheology, resin thermal properties and choice of process conditions are related to product characteristics including density, cell size and crystallinity.  相似文献

Start-up time is one of the important factors that limit the application of high temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cells in several areas. Present work involves the analysis of different warm-up methodologies to analyse the start-up time for phosphoric acid doped PBI membrane based fuel cells. With this objective a number of three dimensional thermal models have been developed. Different heating methodologies such as reactant heating, coolant heating and combined heating (reactant and ohmic) are simulated. The ohmic heating is implemented for generating heat in the membrane itself at high current densities. Hence, combining it with other heating techniques is found effective in reducing start-up times significantly.  相似文献

The structural features of PbTiO3 gels were found to be highly dependent on hydrolysis conditions. Gels formed from acid-catalyzed solutions were clear and rubbery, whereas base-catalyzed gels were translucent or cloudy with phase separation. Direct TEM observations determined that acid-catalyzed gels were fibrous in character and physically homogeneous, whereas base-catalyzed gels had a coarse texture. Analyses by EDX and SAD indicated that acidic gels were chemically homogeneous and microcrystalline, whereas basic gels were heterogeneous and amorphous.  相似文献

The potential of biogas generation from anaerobic digestion of different waste biomass in India has been studied. Renewable energy from biomass is one of the most efficient and effective options among the various other alternative sources of energy currently available. The anaerobic digestion of biomass requires less capital investment and per unit production cost as compared to other renewable energy sources such as hydro, solar and wind. Further, renewable energy from biomass is available as a domestic resource in the rural areas, which is not subject to world price fluctuations or the supply uncertainties as of imported and conventional fuels. In India, energy demand from various sectors is increased substantially and the energy supply is not in pace with the demand which resulted in a deficit of 11,436 MW which is equivalent to 12.6% of peak demand in 2006. The total installed capacity of bioenergy generation till 2007 from solid biomass and waste to energy is about 1227 MW against a potential of 25,700 MW. The bioenergy potential from municipal solid waste, crop residue and agricultural waste, wastewater sludge, animal manure, industrial waste which includes distilleries, dairy plants, pulp and paper, poultry, slaughter houses, sugar industries is estimated. The total potential of biogas from all the above sources excluding wastewater has been estimated to be 40,734 Mm3/year.  相似文献

The occurrence of a significant amount of age hardening, due to the precipitation of the γ′ phase, has been demonstrated in the nickel-copper base alloy MONEL K 500. The microstructure of the precipitation-hardened and deformed alloy has been examined in peak-aged underaged and overaged conditions. An attempt has been made to compare the observed increments in strength in these three aged conditions to those predicted on the basis of relevant theoretical models.  相似文献

Effects of groundwater cooccurring solutes such as phosphate (PO4), silicate (SiO3), bicarbonate (HCO3), calcium (Ca), and iron (Fe) on arsenic removal were investigated in this study. Investigation by two-level full-factorial designed experiments revealed that PO4 and SiO3 have negative effect on arsenic removal, whereas HCO3 has negligible positive effect. The effects of Ca and Fe present in groundwater have positive effect on arsenic removal by electrocoagulation (EC). Hypothesis testing at 5% significance level suggests that alkalinity (HCO3) is not an important parameter in arsenic removal by EC in naturally occurring pH range of water.  相似文献
