The phase behavior of the binary system consisting of isotactic polypropylene (i-PP) and N,N′,N″-tris-isopentyl-1,3,5-benzene-tricarboxamide (1)—a selected member of a class of novel, versatile ‘designer’ nucleating/clarifying agents—was investigated over the entire additive concentration range by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and optical microscopy. Experimental phase diagrams were constructed from data obtained in melting and crystallization studies, and a simple monotectic is advanced, very similar to the previously studied binary system i-PP/1,3:2,4-bis(3,4-dimethylbenzylidene) sorbitol (DMDBS). In contrast to the latter, the crystallization temperature in the present system i-PP/1 was found to increase to ∼120 °C already at the lowest additive concentration employed and remained constant at further increasing additive concentration. Liquid-liquid phase separation was observed at elevated temperatures for i-PP/1 mixtures comprising more than ∼2 wt% of 1. A study on the optical properties of the i-PP/1 system revealed that the values for haze and clarity of injection-molded plaques progressively decreased and increased, respectively, in the concentration range up to 0.15 wt%. An intermediate region of fairly concentration-independent optical properties was found between 0.15 and 1 wt%, followed by a rapid increase in haze at concentrations exceeding 2 wt%.  相似文献

We examined the association between sleep behavior and cognitive functioning in 60 healthy children between 7 and 11 years of age under nonexperimental conditions. Intellectual abilities were assessed by the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (4th edition) and sleep variables by questionnaires, actigraphy, and sleep diaries. Correlation analysis revealed a negative association between sleep duration on weekends and measures of intelligence (full-scale IQ, r = ?.29; fluid IQ, r = ?.36). The regression coefficient for sleep duration on weekends was ?6.11 (SE = 2.09), indicating an increase of 6.11 points on fluid IQ scores for each hour of shorter sleep duration. Attention measures did not correlate with cognitive or sleep variables. Daytime sleepiness as a potential moderator of the relationship between sleep duration and cognitive performance was not related to cognitive or sleep variables. We conclude that children with higher daytime cognitive efficiency (reflected by higher intelligence scores) show increased nighttime efficiency (reflected by shorter sleep duration). In the light of the neural efficiency hypothesis, the current results argue for an extension of the original theory—referring not only to daytime but also to nighttime behavior. An impact assessment of food-securing upgrading strategies (UPS) can be performed to assess actual and potential UPS effects at the local level. We developed an assessment framework that integrates the main components of the food value chain (FVC), including natural resources, food production, processing, marketing, and consumption. The framework provides a generic template in which different impact assessment approaches can be complementarily integrated and was tested for a case study in Tanzania. The framework employs a structured sequence of steps: (1) context analysis and the development of UPS, (2) the selection and application of assessment approaches and (3) the establishment of food security criteria and UPS effects. To illustrate the flexibility and use of the framework, the inputs of three different impact assessment approaches were considered. First, data from a household survey was applied to provide baseline information at the local level. Second, scientific knowledge was employed to systematically assess the selected UPS. Third, local stakeholder knowledge was considered to identify the local food security constraints and preferences and provide assessments of potential UPS effects. The Framework for Participatory Impact Assessment (FoPIA) approach was utilized to conduct local focus group discussions, and the Scaling Up Assessment Tool for Food Security (ScalA-FS) was employed to gather scientific knowledge about specific UPS impacts. Based on the preliminary results from the framework testing, diverse stakeholder participation was found to be essential for considering local preferences and to engage stakeholders in the assessment process, whereas scientific knowledge and monitoring data were needed to complement the “local picture” with more quantifiable results. Producing detailed mass spectrometric fragmentation data of native oligosaccharides for the purpose of basic structure elucidation has become a readily accessible tool since the availability of enhanced technical equipment. In this report, high-energy collision-induced dissociation (heCID) in combination with MALDI-TOF/TOF technology for analysis of native neutral and acidic oligosaccharides is described. By providing complementary data, heCID-MALDI-TOF/TOF adds a variety of valuable cross-ring fragmentation information to the information of glycosidic fragmentation obtained preferably by laser-induced dissociation (LID). We examined parameters influencing fragmentation behavior of both-acidic and neutral-compounds. Results show a dependency of the fragmentation pattern for the employed matrix as well as the laser intensity provided for the ionization of the analytes and the complexity of the analytes. Due to instrument-specific settings, protonated glycosidic ion series within spectra of sodiated compounds could also be identified. Furthermore, acquired spectra could be readily used to identify compounds by comparison to existing glycan databases such as GlycoSuiteDB and GlycosciencesDB. The results show a better scoring of heCID data sets in comparison to LID-derived data. heCID-MALDI-TOF/TOF analysis in combination with database search algorithms is demonstrated to be suitable for an initial identification/classification of carbohydrates.  相似文献

A promising label-free approach for the analysis of genetic material by means of detecting the hybridization of polynucleotides with electromagnetic waves at terahertz (THz) frequencies is presented. Using an integrated waveguide approach, incorporating resonant THz structures as sample carriers and transducers for the analysis of the DNA molecules, we achieve a sensitivity down to femtomolar levels. The approach is demonstrated with time-domain ultrafast techniques based on femtosecond laser pulses for generating and electro-optically detecting broadband THz signals, although the principle can certainly be transferred to other THz technologies.  相似文献

Event-related brain potentials (ERPs) were recorded from participants listening to or reading sentences that were correct, contained a violation of the required syntactic category, or contained a syntactic-category ambiguity. When sentences were presented auditorily (Experiment 1), there was an early left anterior negativity for syntactic-category violations, but not for syntactic-category ambiguities. Both anomaly types elicited a late centroparietally distributed positivity. When sentences were presented visually word by word (Experiment 2), again an early left anterior negativity was found only for syntactic-category violations, and both types of anomalies elicited a late positivity. The combined data are taken to be consistent with a 2-stage model of parsing, including a 1st stage, during which an initial phrase structure is built and a 2nd stage, during which thematic role assignment and, if necessary, reanalysis takes place. Disruptions to the 1st stage of syntactic parsing appear to be correlated with an early left anterior negativity, whereas disruptions to the 2nd stage might be correlated with a late posterior distributed positivity.
