Small Co particles were prepared by sputter etching of a 4–5 nm thick island-like Co film deposited on Si(111) substrate. The density of states (DOS) of the valence band was measured by means of ultraviolet photoemission (UPS) during the sputter etching to monitor the formation of small Co particles. It was found that at a given thickness of the Co island the Fermi level was shifted by 1.8-1.9 eV toward higher binding energy and theDOS decreased or no states were detectable at the Fermi level. This effect was explained by the formation of small Co particles with electronic structure which is significantly different from that of the bulk Co.  相似文献

The pH dependence of iron(II)/iron(III) product distribution, following reduction of the hypervalent iron in equine ferrylmyoglobin by the protein moiety of the pigment (so-called autoreduction) and by NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, reduced) and the rate of reduction was found to depend different on pH. Autoreduction is specific acid catalysed and has a more modest temperature dependence than autoxidation of oxymyoglobin, with the activation parameters H #=58.5±0.4 kJ·mol–1 and S #=2.7±0.1 J·mol–1·K–1 in 0.16 mol·1–1 NaCl. The product of autoreduction is the iron(III) pigment metmyoglobin, which is slightly modified in the protein moiety. The reaction has a positive kinetic salt effect from which it is deduced that the reactive centre of ferrylmyoglobin has a charge of +1 in agreement with the structure Fe(IV)=O. Reduction by NADH involves parallel reactions of two pigment forms in acid/base equilibrium with each other with a pK a equal to 4.9, both forms yielding metmyoglobin as well as the iron(II) pigment, oxymyoglobin, as products. The protonated form reacts faster than the deprotonated form, and two-electron transfer has greater importance for the protonated form with a limiting Fe(II)/Fe(III) product ratio of 0.6 in acidic solution compared to 0.12 in alkaline solution. A square root dependence of rate on NADH concentration suggests involvement of NAD·radicals with a disproportionation as the termination reaction.
Säure-katalysierte Reduktion von Ferrylmyoglobin. Produktdistribution und Kinetik der Autoreduktion und Reduktion von NADH
Zusammenfassung Die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit und das Eisen(II)/Eisen(III)-Verhältnis des Produkts nach Reduktion von hypervalentem Eisen in Ferrylmyoglobin aus Pferden zeigt eine unterschiedliche pH-Abhängigkeit der sogenannten Autoreduktion (Reduktion am Proteinteil des Pigments) sowie der Reduktion durch NADH. Die Autoreduktion weist eine spezifische Säure-Katalyse auf sowie eine moderate Temperaturabhängigkeit im Vergleich zur Autooxidation von Oxymyoglobin mit den Aktivierungsparametern H #=58.5±0.4 kJ·mol–1 und S #=2.7±0.1 J·mol–1·K–1 in 0.16 mol·1–1 NaCl. Das Produkt der Autoreduktion ist das Eisen(III)-Pigment Metmyoglobin mit leicht modifiziertem Proteinanteil. Die Reaktion hat einen positiv kinetischen Salzeffekt, woraus zu erschließen ist, daß das reaktive Zentrum im Ferrylmyoglobin die Ladung +1 übereinstimmend mit der Struktur Fe(IV)=O besitzt. Die Reduktion durch NADH weist auf parallele Reaktionen von zwei Pigmentformen in einem Säure/Base-Gleichgewicht mit pk a=4.9 hin, beide Formen ergeben Metmyoglobin sowie das Eisen(II)-Pigment Oxymyoglobin als Produkt. Die protonisierte Form reagiert schneller als die deprotonisierte Form, und eine zwei-Elektronenübertragung hat größere Bedeutung für die protonisierte Form mit einem Fe(II)/Fe(III) Produktverbrauch von 0.6 in der Säurelösung und 0.12 in der Baselösung. Die Quadratwurzel Abhängigkeit der Geschwindigkeit von NADH deutet auf eine Teilnahme von NAD-Radikalen mit Disproportionierung als Schlußreaktion.

A new pig genotype of Hungarian Large White (75%) × Mangalica (pig with curly bristles, 25%) was used in the experiments. The experimental group was kept in a farming system under strictly natural circumstances until a body weight of 120 kg was attained. Neither antibiotics nor yield-increasing hormones were given to this group. The control group was kept in the usual large-scale farming conditions until body weight of 120 kg was attained. In most cases, protein, zinc, and copper levels and, in some cases, iron levels were significantly higher in some major cuts (neck-end (Boston-butt), loin, ham) of the 'free-range' pigs (n = 12) in comparison with the control animals kept in large-scale farming conditions. There was, on average, 15% less cholesterol in the muscles and 30% less cholesterol in the liver and less linoleic acid in all tissues of 'free-range' pigs than in the control group. There was less fat, but the amount of thiamin and riboflavin in the liver of the naturally kept pigs was twice that in the controls. In respect of TBA-reactive compounds, there were no significant differences between the two groups, but superoxide dismutase (SOD) showed significantly higher activities in all cuts from pigs kept in a large-scale farming system. This may be the effect of a higher level of linoleic acid in the fat.  相似文献

In this work we study, design, and evaluate computational methods to support interpretation of statutory terms. We propose a novel task of discovering sentences for argumentation about the meaning of statutory terms. The task models the analysis of past treatment of statutory terms, an exercise lawyers routinely perform using a combination of manual and computational approaches. We treat the discovery of sentences as a special case of ad hoc document retrieval. The specifics include retrieval of short texts (sentences), specialized document types (legal case texts), and, above all, the unique definition of document relevance provided in detailed annotation guidelines. To support our experiments we assembled a data set comprising 42 queries (26,959 sentences) which we plan to release to the public in the near future in order to support further research. Most importantly, we investigate the feasibility of developing a system that responds to a query with a list of sentences that mention the term in a way that is useful for understanding and elaborating its meaning. This is accomplished by a systematic assessment of different features that model the sentences’ usefulness for interpretation. We combine features into a compound measure that accounts for multiple aspects. The definition of the task, the assembly of the data set, and the detailed task analysis provide a solid foundation for employing a learning-to-rank approach.

In this study, effects of embossing temperature, time, and force on production of a microfluidic device were investigated. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) substrates were hot embossed by using a micromilled aluminum mold. The process parameters were altered to observe the variation of replication rate in width and depth as well as symmetry of the replicated microfluidic channels. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) on the experimental results indicated that embossing temperature was the most important process parameter, whereas embossing time and force have less impact. One distinguishing aspect of this study is that, the channels were observed to be skewed to either side of the channel depending on the location of the protrusions on the mold. The mechanism of the skewness was investigated by finite element analysis and discussed in detail. Results showed that the skewness depends on the flow characteristics of the material and could be reduced by increasing the embossing temperature. The best replication rates were obtained at parameter settings of 115°C, 10?kN, and 8?min for the molds with minimum 56?µm wide features of 120?µm depth. We also showed that the fabricated channels could be successfully sealed by solvent-assisted thermo-compressive bonding at 85°C under 5.5?kN force.  相似文献

The continuous-time random walk (CTRW) model is useful for alleviating the computational burden of simulating diffusion in actual media. In principle, isotropic CTRW only requires knowledge of the step-size, \(P_l\), and waiting-time, \(P_t\), distributions of the random walk in the medium and it then generates presumably equivalent walks in free space, which are much faster. Here we test the usefulness of CTRW to modelling diffusion of finite-size particles in porous medium generated by loose granular packs. This is done by first simulating the diffusion process in a model porous medium of mean coordination number, which corresponds to marginal rigidity (the loosest possible structure), computing the resulting distributions \(P_l\) and \(P_t\) as functions of the particle size, and then using these as input for a free space CTRW. The CTRW walks are then compared to the ones simulated in the actual media. In particular, we study the normal-to-anomalous transition of the diffusion as a function of increasing particle size. We find that, given the same \(P_l\) and \(P_t\) for the simulation and the CTRW, the latter predicts incorrectly the size at which the transition occurs. We show that the discrepancy is related to the dependence of the effective connectivity of the porous media on the diffusing particle size, which is not captured simply by these distributions. We propose a correcting modification to the CTRW model—adding anisotropy—and show that it yields good agreement with the simulated diffusion process. We also present a method to obtain \(P_l\) and \(P_t\) directly from the porous sample, without having to simulate an actual diffusion process. This extends the use of CTRW, with all its advantages, to modelling diffusion processes of finite-size particles in such confined geometries.  相似文献

The electromigration process has the potential capability to move atoms one by one when properly controlled. It is therefore an appealing tool to tune the cross section of monoatomic compounds with ultimate resolution or, in the case of polyatomic compounds, to change the stoichiometry with the same atomic precision. As demonstrated here, a combination of electromigration and anti‐electromigration can be used to reversibly displace atoms with a high degree of control. This enables a fine adjustment of the superconducting properties of Al weak links, whereas in Nb the diffusion of atoms leads to a more irreversible process. In a superconductor with a complex unit cell (La2?x Cex CuO4), the electromigration process acts selectively on the oxygen atoms with no apparent modification of the structure. This allows to adjust the doping of this compound and switch from a superconducting to an insulating state in a nearly reversible fashion. In addition, the conditions needed to replace feedback controlled electromigration by a simpler technique of electropulsing are discussed. These findings have a direct practical application as a method to explore the dependence of the characteristic parameters on the exact oxygen content and pave the way for a reversible control of local properties of nanowires.  相似文献

Hierarchically structured materials comprising rod‐like, chiral, nanoparticles are commonly encountered in nature as they can form assemblies with exceptional optical and mechanical characteristics. These include cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), which have a large potential for the fabrication of bioinspired materials mimicking those advanced properties. Fine‐tuning the optomechanical properties of assemblies obtained from CNCs hinges on the transformations from suspensions of liquid crystals to long‐range order in the dry state. So far, associated transitions have been studied using trivial interfaces such as planar substrates. Such transitions are explored as they evolve onto meshed supports. The meshed substrate offers a complex topology, as is encountered in nature, for the formation of CNCs films. The CNCs self‐assembly occurs under confinement and support of the framework bounding the mesh openings. This leads to coexisting suspended and supported nanoparticle layers exhibiting nematic and/or chiral nematic order. Optical microscopy combined with crossed polarizers indicate that the formation of the suspended films occurs via intermediate gelation or kinetic arrest of CNCs across the mesh's open areas. The formation of self‐standing, ultrathin films of CNCs with tunable optical properties, such as selective reflections in the visible range (structural color), is demonstrated by using the presented simple and scalable approach.  相似文献

Lung cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in the world. Non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common and dangerous type of lung cancer. Despite the fact that NSCLC is preventable and curable for some cases if diagnosed at early stages, the vast majority of patients are diagnosed very late. Furthermore, NSCLC usually recurs sometime after treatment. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to predict NSCLC recurrence, so that specific and suitable treatments can be sought. Nonetheless, conventional methods of predicting cancer recurrence rely solely on histopathology data and predictions are not reliable in many cases. The microarray gene expression (GE) technology provides a promising and reliable way to predict NSCLC recurrence by analysing the GE of sample cells. This study proposes a new model from GE programming to use microarray datasets for NSCLC recurrence prediction. To this end, the authors also propose a hybrid method to rank and select relevant prognostic genes that are related to NSCLC recurrence prediction. The proposed model was evaluated on real NSCLC microarray datasets and compared with other representational models.
