This paper deals with the fatigue crack growth simulations of three-dimensional linear elastic cracks by XFEM under cyclic thermal load. Both temperature and displacement approximations are extrinsically enriched by Heaviside and crack front enrichment functions. Crack growth is modelled by successive linear extensions, and the end points of these linear extensions are joined by cubic spline segments to obtain a modified crack front. Different crack geometries such as planer, non-planer and arbitrary spline shape cracks are simulated under thermal shock, adiabatic and isothermal loads to reveal the sturdiness and versatility of the XFEM approach.  相似文献

This paper gives a statistical view about important contributions and advances on semiconductor metal oxide (SMO) compounds based gas sensors developed to detect the air pollutants such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), H2S, NH3, CO2, acetone, ethanol, other volatile compounds and hazardous gases. Moreover, it is revealed that the alloy/composite made up of SMO gas sensors show better gas response than their counterpart single component gas sensors, i.e., they are found to enhance the 4S characteristics namely speed, sensitivity, selectivity and stability. Improvement of such types of sensors used for detection of various air pollutants, which are reported in last two decades, is highlighted herein.  相似文献

The inhibition of the corrosion of mild steel in hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid solutions by the extract of Murraya koenigii leaves has been studied using weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), linear polarization and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. Inhibition was found to increase with increasing concentration of the leaves extract. The effect of temperature, immersion time and acid concentration on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in 1 M HCl and 0.5 M H2SO4 with addition of extract was also studied. The inhibition was assumed to occur via adsorption of the inhibitor molecules on the metal surface. The adsorption of the extract on the mild steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The activation energy as well as other thermodynamic parameters (Q, ΔH*, and ΔS*) for the inhibition process was calculated. These thermodynamic parameters show strong interaction between inhibitor and mild steel surface. The results obtained show that the extract of the leaves of M. koenigii could serve as an effective inhibitor of the corrosion of mild steel in hydrochloric and sulphuric acid media.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline nickel ferrite with different concentration of Ni and Zn (NixZn1 − xFe2O4 where x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5) were synthesized using chemical co-precipitation method. The effect of doping ion concentration on physical properties like crystalline phase, crystallite size, particle size, and saturation magnetization are investigated. The X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the synthesis of single crystalline NixZn1 − xFe2O4 nanoparticles. The lattice parameter decreases with increase Ni content resulting in reduction of lattice strain. HRTEM images revealed that the as-prepared nanoparticles were crystalline with particle size distribution in 10-30 nm range. The saturation magnetization show the superparamagnetic nature of sample for x = 0.1 and x = 0.3 whereas for x = 0.5, the material is ferromagnetic. The saturation magnetization value is 23.95 emu/gm for Ni0.1Zn0.9Fe2O4 sample and it increases with increase in Ni content.  相似文献

The relatively high cost of refined oils render the resulting fuels unable to compete with petroleum derived fuel. In this study, biodiesel is prepared from palm fatty acid (PFA) which is a by-product of palm oil refinery. The process conditions were optimized for production of palm fatty acid methyl esters. A maximum conversion of 94.4% was obtained using two step trans-esterification with 1:10 molar ratio of oil to methanol at 65°C. Sulfuric acid and Sodium hydroxide were used as acid and base catalyst respectively. The composition of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) obtained was similar to that of palm oil. The biodiesel produced met the established specifications of biodiesel of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). The kinetics of the trans-esterification reaction was also studied and the data reveals that the reaction is of first order in fatty acid and methanol (MeOH) and over all the reaction is of second order.  相似文献

Two new thiophene‐based donor–acceptor (D–A) conjugated polymers, PDTOFV and PDTOCN, are synthesized and characterized. The polymers are readily soluble in common organic solvents and exhibit good thermal stability with onset decomposition temperature (Td) in the range 310?330°C. Cyclic voltammetry studies revealed that polymers possess low‐lying highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels (?5.94 eV for PDTOFV and ?5.86 eV for PDTOCN) and low‐lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels (?3.35 eV for PDTOFV and ?3.55 eV for PDTOCN). The optical band gap is calculated from onset absorption edge of the polymer film. The polymers exhibit green fluorescence with fluorescence quantum yields (?fl) of 38% and 42%, respectively, for PDTOFV and PDTOCN. Polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) are fabricated using these polymers with a device configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Al. The device based on PDTOFV emitted green light with Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage (CIE) coordinate values of (0.25, 0.39). Whereas, the device based on PDTOCN showed white light emission with CIE coordinate values of (0.32, 0.35), which is very close to the values (0.33, 0.33) of standard white light emission. The threshold voltages of the PLEDs are determined by current density‐voltage characteristics and are found to be 7.3 and 3.9 V for PDTOFV and PDTOCN, respectively. POLYM. ENG. The polymeric blend was fabricated with crystalline poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/amorphous functionalized-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) in 70/30 w/w ratio by chemical mixing method. Functionalization of PMMA was achieved with 2-amino-5-nitrobenzoic acid. The prepared polymer blend was used as a matrix to synthesize nanocomposites with undoped/doped zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. Doping in ZnO was achieved with vanadium, sulfur, and dysprosium elements as a dopant. The structural, optical, electronic, and morphological properties of undoped/doped nanosized ZnO and blended nanocomposites were accessed through sophisticated analytical techniques, that is, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis), UV–vis–diffuse reflectance spectra, nuclear magnetic resonance, fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The FTIR band at 1165–1176 cm−1 in functionalized-PMMA indicate the formation of aliphatic C-N bond along with aromatic 1H chemical shift (δ) at 7.134, 7.829 and 8.210 ppm confirm the successfully functionalization of PMMA. The prominent XRD peak at 2θ = 20.8° in nanocomposites shown improvement in β-phase of PVDF. Sulfur-coated pin oscillographic technique (SPOT) has been developed as a new technique for measurement of shock velocity in water. Unlike other techniques, generally employing piezoelectric transducer or high speed photography, the application of this technique is not restricted to the measurement of shock wave pressures over a limited range. To illustrate the application and accuracy of the technique the detonation pressures of a few typical explosives have been measured with this technique and compared with those determined elsewhere by using other techniques. The new technique has yielded measurement of shock velocity in water within an accuracy of 2%.  相似文献

Interaction of a metal-explosive assembly with a normally-incident shaped chare jet has been investigated with radiographic and oscillographic technique. Some of the significant effects associated with this interaction like detonation of explosive by impact of jet, expansion of covering metal plates, disturbance in coherence and reduction in penetration of the jet have been observed. It is found that the jet penetration in stack of mild steel plates is reduced to 30% of its blank penetration. The disturbance in the jet commences 12.3 μs after initiation of explosive and it remains for about 25 μs in the present set up.  相似文献
