Accelerating oil import dependence in energy consuming nations highlights the importance of having energy supplies at sufficient levels and at stable and reasonable prices. Consequently, it is crucial that oil exporters realize their full production potential. Current debates on energy security are often focused on short-term risks e.g. sudden disruptions due to wars, domestic instability, etc. However, when it comes to assessing oil supplier reliability it is equally important to assess their longer term ability and willingness to deliver oil to the global market. This study analyzes the effects of petroleum investment policies on crude oil production trends in 14 major oil producing countries (2000–2010) by focusing on the political–institutional frameworks that shape the investment conditions for the upstream oil sector. Our findings indicate that countries with less favorable oil sector frameworks systematically performed worse than countries with investor friendly and privatized sectors. The findings indicate that assessments based on remaining reserves and planned production capacities alone could inflate expectations about future oil supplies in a world where remaining crude reserves are located in countries with unfavorable investment frameworks.  相似文献

Resilient packet ring (RPR) standardized as IEEE 802.17 is a new medium access control (MAC) protocol for metro-ring networks. RPR supports spatial reuse which increases the achieved throughput but it can also result in congestion and starvation of nodes on the ring. Therefore, it is necessary to employ mechanisms to enforce a fair allocation of the ring bandwidth in RPR. In order to maintain fairness among nodes, a fairness algorithm is deployed at each RPR node. When a node detects congestion, it calculates a fair rate which is advertised to all upstream nodes contributing to congestion. Upon receiving the fair rate, the upstream nodes limit the rate of their injected traffic to the advertised fair rate. Consequently, the congested node can utilize the unused capacity and add its local traffic to the ring. In this paper, we develop an analytical model for fair rate calculation in the RPR aggressive mode fairness algorithm in the parking-lot scenario. This model provides an insight on dynamics of the RPR fairness algorithm and can be used to evaluate its performance. We investigate this problem in two cases. First, we assume that the link propagation delay is zero and derive the fair rate equations for this ideal case. We then consider the link propagation delay and develop a more realistic model. We verify the accuracy of our model by simulation results. Furthermore, we use the developed model to study the impact of various parameters on convergence of the fair rate.  相似文献

Objectives: Explore the relationship of self-esteem level, self-esteem stability, and other moderating variables with depressive symptoms in acute stroke rehabilitation. Measures: One hundred twenty participants completed measures of state self-esteem, perceived recovery, hospitalization-based hassles, impairment-related distress, and tendency to overgeneralize negative self-connotations of bad events. Self-report of depressive symptoms was collected at admission and on discharge. Four regression analyses explored the relationship of self-esteem level and stability and each of 4 moderating variables (perceived recovery, hassles, impairment-related distress, and overgeneralization) with depressive symptoms at discharge. Results: Analyses indicated significant 3-way interactions in the 4 regression models. In general, individuals with unstable high self-esteem endorsed greater depressive symptoms under conditions of vulnerability (e.g., lower perceived recovery) than did individuals with stable high self-esteem. Under conditions of vulnerability, participants with stable low self-esteem indicated the highest levels of depressive symptoms. Implications: Self-esteem level and stability interact with psychological, environmental, and stroke-specific variables to predict depressive symptoms at discharge from stroke rehabilitation. This suggests the viability of self-esteem stability in exploring depressive symptoms in this setting and the complexity of emotional adjustment early after stroke. In this paper, the effect of channel width variation on performance of double lateral gate junctionless transistors in the depletion and accumulation regimes is investigated. The characteristics of the device with various channel widths is comprehensively examined through analysis of on and off state current, threshold voltage (V th), transconductance (g m) and drain conductance (g D) variation in each operating regime. The carriers’ density distribution, electric field components and mobility are investigated through 3-D numerical simulations of the device to illustrate the variation of output characteristics. The results show that as the width decreases, the off-current (I OFF) decreases significantly as a result of better electrostatic control of the lateral gates over the channel. The on-current (I ON) is also decreased mainly due to the doping-dependent mobility degradation.It is also indicated that between the flat-band and fully depleted (pinch off) variation of the majority carriers is the main parameter that modifies the characteristics of the device, while the mobility variation is recognized as the basic factor in the accumulation regime.  相似文献

The sulfidation and regeneration properties of lignite char-supported iron-based sorbent for coke oven gas (COG) desulfurization prepared by mechanical stirring (MS), ultrasonic assisted impregnation (UAI), and high pressure impregnation (HPI) were investigated in a fixed-bed reactor. During desulfurization, the effects of process parameters on sulfidation properties were studied systematically. The physical and chemical properties of the sorbents were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and BET surface area analysis. The results of desulfurization experiments showed that high pressure impregnation (HPI) enhanced the sulfidation properties of the sorbents at the breakthrough time for char-supported iron sorbents. HPI method also increased the surface area and pore volume of sorbents. Sulfur capacity of sorbents was enhanced with increasing sulfidation temperatures and reached its maximum value at 400 °C. It was observed that the presence of steam in coke oven gas can inhibit the desulfurization performance of sorbent. SO2 regeneration of sorbent resulted in formation of elemental sulfur. HPIF10 sorbent showed good stability during sulfide-regeneration cycles without changing its performance significantly.  相似文献

This article offers a detailed comparison of the transition elements described by P.P. Lynn and A.R. Ingraffea [International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering 12,1031–1036] and C. Manu[Engineering Fracture Mechanics 24,509–512]. The source of a numerical phenomenon in using Manu's transitionelement (TE) is explained. The effect of eight-noded TEs with differentquarter-point elements (QPE) on the calculated stress intensity factors (SIFs) isinvestigated. Strain at the crack tip is shown to be singular for any ray emanating from the crack tip within an eight-noded TE, but strain has bothr –1/2andr –1singularities, withr –1/2dominating for large TEs. Semi-transition elements (STEs) are defined and shown to have a marginal effect on the calculated SIFs. Nine-nodedtransition elements are formulated whose strain singularity is shown to be the same as that of eight-noded TEs. Then the effect of eight-noded and nine-noded TEs with collapsed triangular QPEs, and rectangular and nonrectangular quadrilateral eight-noded and nine-noded QPEs, is studied, and nine-noded TEs are shown to behave exactly like eight-noded TEs with rectangular eight-noded and nine-noded QPEs and to behave almost the same with other QPEs. The layered transition elements proposed by V. Murti and S.Valliapan [Engineering Fracture Mechanics 25, 237–258] areformulated correctly. Hardware Trojan horses (HTHs) are among the most challenging treats to the security of integrated circuits. Path-delay fingerprinting has shown to be a promising HTH detection approach. However, previous work in this area incurs a large hardware cost or requires expensive testing techniques. Moreover, the relation between technology mapping and the efficiency of delay-based HTH detection have not yet been studied. In this paper, we present a HTH detection method which uses an effective test-vector selection scheme and a path-delay measurement structure. Furthermore, we demonstrate the large impact of technology mapping on the effectiveness of delay-based HTH detection. We also show that delay-based detection methods are highly scalable. In case of choosing an area-driven design strategy, the average HTH detection probability of our approach is about 63%, 78% and 90% if false alarm rate is 0%, 2% and 16%, respectively. However, with modifications in the technology mapping, the results show improvements to 85%, 94% and 99%, at the cost of about 20% area overhead. In addition, the efficiency of our method would not decrease for large benchmarks with thousands of gates.  相似文献

This research introduces a new probabilistic and meta-heuristic optimization approach inspired by the Corona virus pandemic. Corona is an infection that originates from an unknown animal virus, which is of three known types and COVID-19 has been rapidly spreading since late 2019. Based on the SIR model, the virus can easily transmit from one person to several, causing an epidemic over time. Considering the characteristics and behavior of this virus, the current paper presents an optimization algorithm called Corona virus optimization (CVO) which is feasible, effective, and applicable. A set of benchmark functions evaluates the performance of this algorithm for discrete and continuous problems by comparing the results with those of other well-known optimization algorithms. The CVO algorithm aims to find suitable solutions to application problems by solving several continuous mathematical functions as well as three continuous and discrete applications. Experimental results denote that the proposed optimization method has a credible, reasonable, and acceptable performance.
