The temperature–composition phase diagram in the diluted region of the cationic surfactant cetyldimethylbenzylammonium salicylate/water system was studied with a battery of techniques. The Krafft temperature (T k = 33 ± 1 °C) was measured by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing microscopy, conductimetry, viscosimetry, and rheometry. The critical vesicle concentration (cvc, ~0.002 wt%) and a vesicle–micellar transition (cvm, ~0.005 wt%) was detected at a temperature of 35 °C. Below T k and concentrations ≤2 wt%, a transparent solution is formed (I). Above 2–8.5 wt%, a lamellar (L1) phase forms. At higher concentrations and up to 12 wt%, a second lamellar phase (L2) is detected. From 12.4 to 15.5 wt%, an emulsion phase (E) is formed. Rheological dynamic measurements for the I phase indicate that the system exhibits a predominantly viscous behavior (G′ < G″) for concentrations lower than the overlap or entanglement concentration (C e, ~0.75 wt%). At higher concentrations, wormlike micelles form and the elastic behavior predominates (G′ > G″). The elastic (G′) modulus collapses in a concentration–time master curve in the whole reduced frequencies range ωτ c examined, whereas the viscous modulus (G″) collapses only at reduced frequencies lower than 0.1. Reduced stress plotted as a function of the reduced shear rate yields a good superposition of the curves at the different concentrations up to the onset of the non-linear behavior.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Although chlorination is an effective and widely employed method of water disinfection, it suffers serious drawbacks such as the formation of toxic chlorinated by‐products. Therefore, other disinfection technologies have been researched and developed, including advanced oxidation. RESULTS: The efficacy of heterogeneous photocatalysis and sonophotocatalysis induced by UV‐A irradiation and low frequency (24–80 kHz) ultrasound irradiation in the presence of TiO2 as the photocatalyst and peracetic acid (PAA) as an additional disinfectant to inactivate E. coli in sterile water was evaluated. PAA‐assisted UV‐A/TiO2 photocatalysis generally leads to nearly complete E. coli inactivation in 10–20 min of contact time with the extent of inactivation depending on the photocatalyst type and loading (in the range 100–500 mg L?1) and PAA concentration (in the range 0.5–2 mg L?1). The simultaneous application of ultrasound and UV‐A irradiation in the presence of TiO2 and PAA prompted further E. coli inactivation. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed advanced disinfection technology offers complete E. coli inactivation at short treatment times and low PAA doses. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

We examined accident under-reporting with data from 425 employees employed in 5 industries with above average risk for employee injuries. We expected that rates for unreported accidents would be higher than rates for reported accidents; and that organizational safety climate and perceptions of supervisor enforcement of safety policies would moderate the relationship between unreported accidents and reported accidents. Results showed that the number of unreported accidents was significantly higher than the number of reported accidents. There was an average of 2.48 unreported accidents for every accident reported to the organization. Further, under-reporting was higher in working environments with poorer organizational safety climate or where supervisor safety enforcement was inconsistent. We discuss the implications of these findings for improving accident under-reporting and occupational safety in the workplace.  相似文献

Structure evolution of highly oriented polyethylene during cautious melting and crystallization is investigated with both high time resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio by means of small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). The two-dimensional SAXS patterns are transformed to the multidimensional chord distribution function (CDF) in physical space. The results are continuous and smooth movies of the nanostructure, which elucidate the mechanisms of the evolution of semicrystalline structure.We find that in our material crystallization is preceeded by a rather diffuse mesomorphic nanostructure. Based on its variation in relation to other observed features like row nuclei and crystalline lamellae, we propose to associate it to phase separated regions of entangled and disentangled chain segments, respectively. The movies show that the mesophase structure holds the key for the understanding of crystallite orientation and arrangement in the fibre.  相似文献

Lignin‐based thermal responsive dual shape memory copolymeric elastomers were prepared with a highly branched prepolymer (HBP, A2B3 type) via a simple one‐pot bulk polycondensation reaction. The effect of fractionated lignin type (with good miscibility in the HBP) on copolymer properties was investigated. The thermal and mechanical properties of the copolymers were characterized by DMA, DSC, and TGA. Tensile properties were dominated by HBP <45% lignin content while lignin dominated >45% content. The copolymers glass transition temperature (Tg) increased with lignin content and lignin type did not play a significant role. Thermally stimulated dual shape memory effects (SME) of the copolymers were quantified by cyclic thermomechanical tests. All copolymers had shape fixity rate >95% and >90% shape recovery for all compositions. The copolymer shape memory transition temperature (Ttrans) increased with lignin content and Ttrans was 20°C higher than Tg. Nanostructured thin films of cerium dioxide have been prepared on single-crystalline silicon substrates by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis using cerium acetylacetonate as a metal–organic precursor dissolved in anhydrous methanol and acetic acid as an additive. The morphology, structure, optical index, and electrical properties were studied by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, and impedance spectroscopy. The use of additives is very important to obtain crack-free films. The substrate temperature and flow rate was optimized for obtaining smooth ( R a<0.4 nm), dense ( n >2), and homogeneous nanocrystalline films with grain sizes as small as 10 nm. The influence of thermal annealing on the structural properties of films was studied. The low activation energy calculated for total conductivity (0.133 eV) is attributed to the nanometric size of the grains.  相似文献

The general methodology for estimating energy consumption in buildings, in accordance with the EN ISO 13790, needs the use of constants that are valid for each set of climatic conditions. Furthermore, there are variables other than building structure and weather conditions that have an influence. In this sense, recent research works showed the real effect of permeable coverings on indoor environmental conditions, by controlling indoor moisture. The effect of the associated heat and mass transfer on heating or cooling energy consumption is evident during the initial hours of building occupation. In the present paper, the general methodology of building heat demand calculation is modified to consider different levels of permeability of internal coverings, in order to obtain a more accurate model. Results showed that permeable coverings are related with a higher building utilisation factor, and that the value of this factor is higher in summer than in winter season. Consequently, despite the fact that the sensibility of energy consumption to internal coverings may be lower than to building envelope, new constants are proposed to express a relationship between building permeability and energy consumption, in order to apply the certification equation.  相似文献

The monotypic type genus Bertholletia produces commercially nutritionally harvested edible seeds, Brazil nuts. It is an important product from the Amazon forest in the food production chain, with a 2008 annual world production of 78,000 tonnes, being Brazil responsible for approximately 40% of it. Although there are beneficial nutritional properties, the prevailing mycobiota of Brazil nuts include fungi that are producers of aflatoxins, such as Aspergillus flavus, A. parasiticus and A. nomius. Aflatoxins have deleterious effects in consumption considering the global distribution chain, affecting major exporting countries. The present review is focused on the importance of Brazil nuts for the Amazon rainforest, emphasizing on the social and environmental impact of its production, on the mycobiota contamination of seeds, and on the presence of mycotoxins and related food safety aspects.  相似文献
