Modeling of extreme values like annual maxima’s is important in many applications. Pearson Type-3 (PE3) distribution is an important probability distribution, widely used for modeling of extreme values with a variety of estimation methods. The focus of this study is to assess the effects of three methods of estimation of parameters for PE3 distribution namely L-moments (LM), maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and maximum product of spacing (MPS). Assessment is based on a two-step approach. The first step uses simulation experiments while the second is based on empirical analyses, by varying size and shape characteristics of the sample. The study concluded that the estimates using LM method have low bias in case of small sample and when data exhibits small to moderate skewness and kurtosis. MPS is a reasonable alternative and provides efficient estimates, especially when the data shows large skewness and kurtosis with small to moderate size of sample. MLE method is useful in case of very large sample size with low values of shape characteristics of data. The results of this study provide useful guidelines for fitting PE3 distribution, especially to extreme values.

Multifunctional lead-free double perovskites demonstrate remarkable potential towards applications in various fields.Herein,an environmentally-friendly,low-cost,high-throughput Cs2NaFeCl6 single crystal with exceedingly high thermal stabil-ity is designed and grown.It obtains a cubic lattice system in the temperature range of 80-500 K,accompanied by a com-pletely reversible chromatic variation ranging from yellow to black.Importantly,the intriguing thermochromism is proved to own extremely high reproducibility (over 1000 cycles) without a hysteretic effect,originating from its structural flexibility that in-cluding (i) the noteworthy distortion/deformation of[NaCl6]5-and[FeCl6]3-octahedra;(ii) order-disorder arrangement trans-ition of[NaCl6]5-and[FeCl6]3-octahedra as the function of temperature.This study paves the way towards a new class of smart windows and camouflage coatings with an unprecedented colour range based on a Cs2NaFeCl6 perovskite.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates a probabilistic modelling approach for establishing the correlation of Heat transfer fluid (HTF) temperature, obtained at the exit of a linear Parabolic trough collector (PTC). For the purpose, an analytical heat transfer (Physical) model was developed and validated by comparing its result with the published values. The correlation was then fitted on a dataset obtained by simulating this physical model over the sampled values acquired by applying the Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) technique over a realistic distribution of factors. The preliminary correlation was based on twenty-six natural, design and operational factors, including normal solar radiation, HTF flow rate, ambient conditions and different attributes associated with geometry and material of the concentrating reflector, receiver, sleeve and selective coating. The coefficient of determination (R2) for correlation was 98.4 %. After analyzing the significance of each factor, a simplified correlation was proposed with only nine factors. The applications associated with this work include the design and simulation of direct and indirect steam generation systems, solar-assisted power generation, space heating, cooling, refrigeration and desalination.

Due to depletion of fossil fuel, bio-fuels have generated a significant interest as an alternative fuel for the future. The use of bio-fuels to fuel gas turbine seems a viable solution for the problems of decreasing fossil-fuel reserves and environmental concerns. Bio-fuels are alternative fuels, made from renewable sources and having environmental benefit. In recent years, the desire for energy independence, foreseen depletion of nonrenewable fuel resources, fluctuating petroleum fuel costs, the necessity of stimulating agriculture based economy, and the reality of climate change have created an interest in the development of bio-fuels. The application of bio-fuels in automobiles and heating applications is increasing day by day. Therefore the use of these fuels in gas turbines would extend this application to aviation field. The impact of costly petroleum-based aviation fuel on the environment is harmful. So the development of alternative fuels in aviation is important and useful.The use of liquid and gaseous fuels from biomass will help to fulfill the Kyoto targets concerning global warming emissions. In addition, to reduce exhaust emission waste gases and syngas, etc., could be used as a potential gas turbine fuel. The term bio-fuel is referred to alternative fuel which is produced from biomass. Such fuels include bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, bio-methanol, pyrolysis oil, biogas, synthetic gas (dimethyl ether), hydrogen, etc. The bio-ethanol and bio-methanol are petrol additive/substitute. Bio-diesel is an environment friendly alternative liquid fuel for the diesel/aviation fuel.The gas turbine develops steady flame during its combustion; this feature gives a flexibility to use alternative fuels. Therefore so the use of different bio-fuels in gas turbine has been investigated by a good number of researchers. The suitability and modifications in the existing systems are also recommended.  相似文献

This study utilizes Abductory Induction Mechanism to estimate the mean monthly wind speed at some locations in Saudi Arabia based on wind data at other available recording stations in addition to some historical wind speed data at the target site. Wind speed data from 20 meteorological stations over a period of 16 years between 1990 and 2005 was used to accomplish the set objective. To validate the model, data from 19 stations was used to estimate the wind speed at the 20th location. Evaluation was performed for every one of the 20 available locations. Results show good agreement between estimated and measured monthly mean wind speed values. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
