Chemometric Studies on zNose™ and Machine Vision Technologies for Discrimination of Commercial Extra Virgin Olive Oils

The aim of this study was to classify Turkish commercial extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) samples according to geographical origins by using surface acoustic wave sensing electronic nose (zNose?) and machine vision system (MVS) analyses in combination with chemometric approaches. EVOO samples obtained from north and south Aegean region were used in the study. The data analyses were performed with principal component analysis class models, partial least squares‐discriminant analysis (PLS‐DA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA). Based on the zNose? analysis, it was found that EVOO aroma profiles could be discriminated successfully according to geographical origin of the samples with the aid of the PLS‐DA method. Color analysis was conducted as an additional sensory quality parameter that is preferred by the consumers. The results of HCA and PLS‐DA methods demonstrated that color measurement alone was not an effective discriminative factor for classification of EVOO. However, PLS‐DA and HCA methods provided clear differentiation among the EVOO samples in terms of electronic nose and color measurements. This study is significant from the point of evaluating the potential of zNose? in combination with MVS as a rapid method for the classification of geographically different EVOO produced in industry. 相似文献

The aims of this study were to prepare organogels from pomegranate seed oil (PO) with carnauba wax (CW) and monoglyceride (MG), compare the organogels with a commercial margarine (CM) and evaluate 3 months storage stability. At 3% organogelator addition, no gels were formed, while at 7 and 10% additions, the oil binding capacities increased and were always higher in CW organogels, with crystal formation times of 8.0 to 14.0 min. Solid fat content (SFC) of the CW organogels varied between 2.96 and 8.71% at 20°C, while MG gels had 2.89–9.43%, and CM had 29.73% SFC. The peak melting temperatures of the CW organogels ranged from 74.73 to 75.74°C and MG organogels ranged from 11.09 to 50.63°C, whereas CM product exhibited 45.92°C peak melting temperature. The hardness of CW organogels was higher than that of MG organogels. The organogels showed potential as spreadable products. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this study, the effect of essential oils (thyme and clove) and packaging treatments (vacuum and modified atmosphere) on the storage of hot smoked rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fillets over a period of 120 days at 4°C was investigated. Fillets were subjected to microbiological (total aerobic mesophilic bacteria, psychrotrophic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria, yeast and mould), chemical analyses (pH, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and total volatile base nitrogen) and quality testing throughout the storage period. Difference in microbiological and chemical changes between samples was found to be significant (p < 0.05) during storage period. Sensory evaluation showed significant differences between the samples, and V2 and M2 samples were assessed as the most acceptable products by the panellists. In conclusion, essential oils treatment to hot smoking had a positive effect on shelf life of rainbow trout, especially clove oil showed more positive effect when compared with thyme oil. Thermal behavior, structural properties, and phase equilibria of the (100−x)TeO2-xNa2O system were studied in the 5 ≤ x ≤ 50 mol% composition range. Investigation of glass formation behavior in the binary system was realized, and the glass formation range was determined as 7.5 ≤ x ≤ 40 mol%. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy techniques were used for thermal and structural characterization of the glasses. Influence of Na2O content on glass transition temperature (Tg), glass stability (∆T), density (ρ), molar volume (VM), oxygen molar volume (VO), and oxygen packing density (OPD) values of sodium tellurite glasses was evaluated considering the structural transformations in the glass network. For the phase equilibria studies, DTA, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray (SEM/EDS) techniques were utilized to characterize the heat-treated samples. According to the phase equilibria studies, three eutectic regions were detected in the 0 < x < 50 mol% composition range of the (100−x)TeO2-xNa2O system. A new invariant endothermic reaction was detected for the compositions between 40 ≤ x ≤ 45 mol%. Na2O.8TeO2 (11.11 mol% Na2O) compound that was claimed to exist in the binary system in the literature was found to be the metastable δ-TeO2 phase. 相似文献

Organizational culture and leadership are purported to be deeply integrated and intertwined within an organization. Although there is a substantial amount of research demonstrating the importance of the interplay of culture and leadership, there exist few empirical examinations of the nature of this link. To examine this link, based on Cameron and Quinn's Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument and Hofstede's Values Survey Module, a questionnaire survey was conducted. The sample consists of 499 managerial personnel out of 107 contracting firms. With the aim of achieving a better understanding of how leadership style is influenced by organizational culture, Multinomial Logistic Regression was used. The findings demonstrate that managers in the contracting companies with different cultural characteristics tend to adopt different leadership styles to lead their employees to succeed in their business. Information contained in this paper will feed into country-specific understanding of leadership and organizational culture within the construction industry. 相似文献

For over 50 years, the Upper Oligocene–Upper Miocene sedimentary sequence in Istanbul has been considered to be formed of two distinct sequences separated by an unconformity. However, recent field observations and an analysis of numerous borehole data indicate the Gürp?nar, Çukurçe?me and Güngören Formations are in fact a single sequence of alternating clay–sand/sandstone beds/lenses, here named the Avc?lar Formation. The Bak?rköy Formation, which is typically composed of carbonate rocks, conformably overlies the Avc?lar Formation. The paper provides the geotechnical parameters of the units within the Avc?lar Formation which it is hoped will facilitate selecting suitable geotechnical and engineering geological parameters to represent the deposits and minimize errors in the interpretation/evaluation of in-situ conditions. 相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the radioactive potential hazard of granite, which is widely used as building material in Turkey. Natural radiation levels of 18 various, globally-distributed industrial granite samples imported by Turkey, were analyzed using gamma-ray spectrometer. The results are compared with the formerly published findings of granite samples from Turkey. Radioactivity levels of 238U, 232Th, and 40K natural radioactive series elements of the selected 18 specimens were measured, which were from 2.4 ± 0.5 to 88.8 ± 3.6 Bq kg?1 for 238U, from 2.4 ± 0.7 to 273 ± 0.9 Bq kg?1 for 232Th, and from 169 ± 24 to 1,479 ± 94 Bq kg?1 for 40K. Radium equivalent activities (Raeq) were calculated for the granite samples to assess their radiation hazards in the construction of dwellings. The Raeq values of granite samples varied in the range of 39.05–570 Bq kg?1, only one sample exceeded the safe limit value of 370 Bq kg?1 set by the OECD-NEA (Nuclear Energy Agency. Exposure to radiation from natural radioactivity in building materials. Report by NEA Group of Experts 1979). Absorbed dose rates in air were found between 18.74 and 261 nGy h?1 and radiogenic heat production values were calculated in the range of 0.45–6.53 μW m?3. This study evaluated the long-term microleakage of access cavities conditioned with phosphoric acid and deproteinizing agents for root-canal-treated teeth using fluid filtration and microscopical analysis. Occlusal surfaces of extracted human mandibular premolars (N = 90) were removed leaving a 4 mm coronal length from the cemento-enamel junction. After root canal treatment, the specimens were randomly divided into four experimental groups (n = 21) and the remaining teeth were used for positive control group (n = 6): SB: 35% H3PO4 + Adper Single Bond 2; SSB: 35% H3PO4 + 5.25% NaOCl + 10% Sodium ascorbate (C6H7NaO6) + Adper Single Bond 2; XP: 35% H3PO4+XP Bond; SXP: 35% H3PO4+5.25% NaOCl + 10% Sodium ascorbate + XP Bond. All cavities were restored with a resin composite (Filtek Z250). After removing the root filling from the apical side, teeth were subjected to fluid filtration test for 1 week, 6 and 12 months followed by ×2500 thermocycling after 1st week and 6th months each. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Dunnet T3 tests (α = 0.05). SEM analyses were carried out after each microleakage evaluation in two random teeth from all groups. Microleakage values in groups SB and XP presented no significant difference in any of the evaluated period (p > 0.05). Microleakage results of SXP (0.01665) group showed significant difference compared to XP (0.03377) and SB (0.03049) groups after 12 months. SSB group (0.00901) showed significantly less microleakage among all other groups (0.01665–0.03377) (p < 0.05). Prior to endodontic treatment, in access cavities, acid etching with 35% H3PO4 followed by the application of NaOCl and sodium ascorbate completely destroyed the collagen layer, reducing the microleakage and resin–dentin interface degradation up to 12 months. 相似文献

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to compare the Vickers hardness numbers (VHNs), roughness numbers (RNs) and biological compatibility of glass carbomer (Glass Fill), resin-modified glass ionomer (Fuji II LC) and self-adhering flowable composite (Vertise Flow) materials. Materials and methods: Disc-shaped specimens of test materials (n = 15/group) were prepared, and VHNs and RNs were determined after 24 h. A direct contact test was used for cytotoxicity evaluation. Cell viability was measured for 24 h post-exposition with a photometric test (MTT assay; n = 16). Data were analysed using one-way analysis of variance with a post hoc Tukey’s test, the Kruskal–Wallis test and the Mann–Whitney U-test (p < 0.05). Results: Fuji II LC had the highest VHN. The VHN of Fuji II LC differed significantly from those of the other materials (p < 0.05). The RNs of Fuji II and Glass Fill were higher than that of Vertise Flow (p < 0.05). The self-adhering materials were not significantly cytotoxic compared with the control group (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The materials tested in this study showed a similar lack of cytotoxicity. The VHN of Fuji II LC was the highest, and the RN of Vertise Flow was the lowest. 相似文献

Alendronic acid modified resol nanocomposite resins (AA‐PFNCRs) and sepiolite modified resol nanocomposite resins (SEP‐PFNCRs) have been synthesized by in situ method in the presence of base catalyst. Additionally, the synergistic effects of alendronic acid and sepiolite clay (AA‐SEP‐PFNCR) on the resol resin have been studied. The structure, morphology, and thermal properties of these nanocomposites have been investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and X‐ray Diffraction (XRD). The results demonstrated the interactions between the fillers and resol resin. Thermal properties of nanocomposite resins were improved due to alendronic acid and sepiolite.
